“Lira, I don't know what you're talking about. I've never hidden anything from you,” Lance whispered in a low tone. “You know it.”

Lira's eyes were wild with rage. “Really? Do you think I'm a fool? A little child that you can manipulate?” She turned swiftly and picked up the parchment lying on the floor.

Then she flung it at Lance. His eyes widened in shock. As the realization of what he has just done hit him.

He touched his neck, wondering where the key was, and then it dawned on him. “Please, Lira. It's not what you think. I did it for your good. I would never hurt you intentionally.”

Lira crumpled to the floor, as tears slipped down her face. Her eyes were red-rimmed from crying. “You kept the truth away from me. That letter, you hid it away. Why didn't you tell me about my father,” she cried.

Selene widened her eyes in surprise. She lacked the exact words to speak. She had never given much thought to the girl's parents.
