"Really Jared, this is your decision?", Jamie asked, totally disappointed that his friend thought leaving was the best idea. Jared heaved a sigh as he tucked the last set of folded clothes neatly into his duffel bag. BEFORE RUBY OPENED her eyes, she knew she was in somewhere strange. From the texture of the bed she was laying on, to the smell of the room communicated to her that her current whereabout is completely different from her regular place of abode. She opened her eyes in slits and she was not wrong. A bright bulb fixated at the ceiling shone so bright that she had to shut her eyes as quick as she opened them. After opening her eyes more slowly, the ray of light emanating from the bulb didn't seem so bright anymore. JARED KEPT TOSSING in his bed as he tried to find a comfortable position that would put him to sleep but every position he took made him more uncomfortable. He sat up on his bed and heaved a sigh. He began hearing sobs and he knew no one in the house was sobbing. He closed his eyes and listened carefully but he couldn't decipher who was in so much tears to the extent of gasping for breath. He moved to the living room and saw his mother snuggled in the couch and her head on Bennie's lap as he sat with his right hand wrapped around her waist. They were both watching the television. THE CONSTANT TICK-TOCK sound that emanated from the wall clock adjacent to Jared rung loudly in his ears as his focus was totally on the giant time piece.Every ticking of each second looked like an hour to Jared. RUBY'S HEART WAS pounding with every step she took but she was determined to make it out of the ship. All the time she had spent there, she had felt nothing but worry and regret. She wondered if she had been charmed by Henry.
