“You’re mine, Genevieve,” he growled. “Human or not!”

His deep voice echoed through the dark forest, curling around the trees like a living thing that refused to let me go.

Hearing my name come from his mouth sent my heart into overdrive. Panic flooded my senses as I pushed my burning legs harder, forcing them to move despite the sharp pain shooting through my calves. My ponytail whipped from side to side, catching on branches as I ran blindly through the darkness. Cold air rushed past my face, biting my skin and blurring my vision with tears. This wasn’t possible. This couldn’t be real. I was human—weak, ordinary, breakable—not some supernatural being tied to monsters and moonlight.

“Genevieve,” he called again. “You can’t hide from me.”

His voice was closer now, dangerously close, vibrating through my bones.

Don’t look back, I begged myself. Don’t slow down.

My lungs burned as moonlight suddenly reflected against a nearby river, its surface shimmering like liquid silver. I hesitated for only a second. I knew I would regret this. The water would be freezing, and I could get hypothermia. But fear pushed me forward. With trembling limbs and a silent prayer, I jumped.

The cold water stabbed my skin like thousands of tiny needles. My breath left me in a sharp gasp as I sank beneath the surface, shock seizing every muscle. I forced myself to stay still, clamping my mouth shut, praying I could hold my breath long enough for him to lose me. Darkness surrounded me. My thoughts spiraled as panic clawed at my chest.

But my lungs betrayed me far too soon.

I broke the surface, gasping and coughing as water streamed down my face. I spun in every direction, heart racing. It was too dark to see anything beyond shadowy trees and rippling water. No footsteps. No voices. Just an eerie, unnatural silence.

Why wasn’t anyone coming to save me?

Did he command them not to?

Could he really do that?

Before the thought could finish, my body was suddenly yanked upward. I screamed as I left the water, my feet kicking helplessly in the air. My eyes widened, terror freezing me in place. A hybrid. He’s a hybrid. My heart slammed so hard it felt like it might shatter my ribs. This had to be a nightmare. I squeezed my eyes shut, bracing myself for the pain of hitting the forest floor.

Instead, I fell into warmth.

Strong arms wrapped around me, steady and impossibly gentle, holding me against a solid chest. I shivered violently, clinging to his broad shoulders as if letting go would send me crashing back into fear and darkness.

“Open your eyes,” he said quietly.

His voice had changed. It was still deep and rough, but now it carried something softer—something dangerously intimate.

My heart pounded as I slowly obeyed. I didn’t dare look anywhere except his stormy grey eyes, glowing faintly beneath the moonlight. They held power, hunger, and something that felt unsettling like longing.

“You’re beautiful,” he groaned, leaning closer, his breath warm against my trembling lips.

When his eyes flared brighter, realization struck me like lightning. He wasn’t lying. Fate wasn’t lying.

I was his.

Before I could process the truth or summon the strength to resist, his warm lips crashed against mine, sealing my fate beneath the cold stars and the watching trees of the dark forest.

"Genevieve, this is my mother Caroline. Caroline this is Genevieve Van Acker, a very close friend." I shook the tall woman's hand, though I was confused as to why he introduced me as his 'close friend'. His face revealed nothing but I'm sure he felt my confusion through our mate bond. He gave me a quick glance, a small smile on his face before he looked back to his mother. "Where is Julian?" Remy asked his mother after placing a chaste kiss on her cheek. "The Bakery, MJ wasn't feeling to good this morning so we stayed home." Caroline replied, pushing her blonde hair behind her ear. The worry on her face was not be unseen. "I'll go check on her. Is Lily upstairs with her?" Caroline gave a small nod, before voicing out a 'yes'. "I'll be back in just a sec, OK?" I fought against a grin as Remy looked at me with big puppy eyes, like he was asking for my permission. "Sure, I'll stay down here with you if that's OK?" I said, directing the last part at Caroline, who simply smiled. Re

I stood in the bathroom wrapped in a blue towel, brushing my wet hair, when I heard footsteps coming from the other side of the door. I gripped the brush tightly, my body frozen with fear. I held my breath as the footsteps neared towards the bathroom door. I bit the inside of my cheek, praying it was just Remy. The room fell silent, as the footsteps stopped right outside the door. The doorknob rattled before it fell silent again."Genevieve, it's just me. I got you some clothes." He didn't sound angered anymore but stressed."Thank you." I mumbled quietly, picking at the edge of the blue towel. I wasn't mad at him. I was hurt. I heard an almost silent sigh escape his mouth. "I'll just leave them by the door." I heard his footsteps retreat back into the bedroom.I glanced in the slightly fogged mirror, a lone tear rolled done my cheek. I had always been an emotional person. I threw my hair up in a bun and took one last glance in the mirror, before unlocking the door and taking the bag

  • THE HYBRID (Book I & II)   CH. 9 First Tears

I could officially cross off free falling from my bucket list. The jump out the window from the third story was high and overall dangerous, yet not for Remy, who brought us safely onto the ground. The shattered glass from the window crushed under our weight as Remy steadied his footing on the concrete. The rush of wind from the fall, had ruffled up my shoulder length hair that now covered my face. Remy pushed back the hair so he could see my face, before pressing his lips hard against mine. Before the kiss could be deepened, Remy hitched me up higher on his waist afterwards sprinting with vampire speed into the nearby alley. By now it was already dark outside and the flickering light from the only lamp post on the corner was all too cliche.Remy released my thighs, letting me slide of the front of his body. With a hand on my shoulder he gently pushed me back to the darkest corner in the alley. He turned around with speed, hunching over in the process, an earth shattering growl release

  • THE HYBRID (Book I & II)   CH. 8 Kisses

My eyes widened on their own account before glancing down at his plump, naturally pink lips. My mouth went dry at the thought of kissing him as my palms became sweaty and my heart pounded against my chest. It wasn't like I hadn't kissed him before or didn't want to, it was more the fact of what one kiss from him could lead to. I mean I had to think logically; I was in a nice hotel room, sitting in bed with a shirtless beast, who expected me to kiss him for every answer he gave me. And sense I had a lot of questions to ask, that would mean a lot of kisses. His warm hand on my cheek brought me out of my mental conversation with myself. I took notice that we were now closer than I thought. He hadn't said anything but instead looked at me with a playful smirk carved on his face. The way he had his left eyebrow raised made him even better looking than he already was. I let out a small breath before pulling out of his loose grip, the loss of his body heat not going unnoticed by me. "I do

  • THE HYBRID (Book I & II)   CH. 7 Mary Jane

My heart was pounding in my chest and the air got stuck in my lungs. My head was swarming with questions as I replayed his words again. Will you be good for mommy and daddy and take your medicine? I'll be home really soon. I love you.He had a kid, a daughter to be exact. A cute little girl, yet she wasn't our kid. She was created from Remy and another woman, who wasn't me. Who was her mother and where was she? At least if she was a bitch I could hate her easily. Did all three of them live together? Could I handle him already having a family? Did he expect me to take this information with a smile? I wouldn't be the side chick nor did I come with him to stay hidden. I needed time to think about all of this.I could faintly hear as the girl said her goodbyes before Remy ended the call. I tried creeping back in to the room silently but my body had other plans. I felt the familiar scratchy feeling in the back of my throat just as I brought my hand over my mouth, covering the oncoming coug

  • THE HYBRID (Book I & II)   CH. 6 Awkward

So far the five hour drive had been silent, only the occasional cough that came from me. I didn't know if I had my expectations too high or if I was just stressed from the last forty eight hours. But the silence was awkward and the car felt like it was getting smaller by the mile. It almost felt like this was an arranged marriage and I was the bride, who barely knew her husband and was forced to move into his mansion after the wedding. I knew that wasn't the current situation I was in, yet that's kind of how felt. But this was my choice and I wasn't one to change her mind so quickly. After the almost kiss is where the awkwardness started. I hoped I hadn't hurt his feeling by what I said, but it had been the truth. I was human, born a human, grew up as a human and would die as a human. That meaning | wanted to continue living as a human, like I had before. I never expected to have a mate or be the mate of someone else and it wasn't something I really wanted either. I wasn't against i
