The following morning, I didn't wake up early. However, the nanny banged on my door several times, leaving me with no choice but to get out of bed.

I opened the door and greeted my nanny who didn't explain what was happening. She only told me to get ready and come downstairs for breakfast. Annoyed by the early morning disturbance, I reluctantly brushed and took a bath, and then went downstairs to find out what the whole thing was about.

To my surprise, my dad had invited some people that I couldn't recognize. One of them was holding a bag, whilst the other seemed lost in thought.

"Dad, what are you doing?" I asked.

"Gena! Thank God you're awake," he said, putting both his hands on my shoulders and pulling me forward, "This is your makeup artist and designer. They will both glam you up for the party happening tonight," he told me, sounding very enthusiastic.

"A party? Whose party?" I asked him.

"Yours, baby. It's a huge celebration of your return, and also, your marriage," he said. His face brightened up as he spoke.

"What a ridiculous surprise. And whose marriage? Is dad going to make me marry someone I don't know and don't love?" I thought to myself.

As much as I wanted to argue with Dad, I decided that it was best to refrain from doing so. Nevertheless, I was curious to see whom he had chosen as my partner. Since time immemorial, werewolves have always chosen their mates, but it seemed that my dad wanted to make that decision for me.

I returned to the table, and the nanny came out of the kitchen to serve me food. Since I was the only one having breakfast, I thought that Dad was probably busy inviting everyone from his contact list. I swore to myself that I would decline whoever dad wanted me to marry.

Later that night, the celebration began. The guests invited by my dad had arrived, and they seemed taken aback for a second when they saw me standing beside my dad; they said I looked just like Mom. There was no lie in that, because each day, I found myself becoming more and more like her, and I have always sincerely loved and wanted to be just like she was - simple, kind, and generous.

"Gena, I'll be back," Dad said and left, heading to his study room. Since he was occupied and I didn't know anyone at the party, I decided to keep myself company by going to the bar to get a drink.

"Bartender, a glass of champagne, please," I called out, taking a seat and waiting to be served. After some time, the bartender, a cute young man, came over with the glass of champagne I had ordered. However, just as he was about to place it on the table, another person swooped in and took it from him. I turned, consumed with anger, and yelled at the young man who had snatched my drink without permission.

"Have you lost your goddamn mind?" I cursed.

"I'm sorry, who are you?" he asked, placing the glass back on the table and instructing the bartender to go away with it.

"How dare you do this? Do you know who I am?" I yelled at him, drawing the attention of the other guests, including my dad, who approached and found me furiously staring at one of the guests.

"Is everything okay, Luciano?" Dad asked, stepping forward and placing himself between me and the guest.

"I'm sorry, sir, but your daughter..." he began, but I didn't let him finish.

"I'm what?" I cried out.

"About to drink alcohol, and you think it's right for the daughter of a reputable hybrid to do this?" he answered.

"Has he gone mad? How dare he lecture me on right and wrong? Who gave him the authority to do so, my dad? I wondered.

"You're..." I reacted angrily and was about to burst with rage when Dad interrupted.

"Enough!" Dad held out his hand, signaling for me to stop. He turned to Luciano, "I apologize for my daughter's behavior. Please forgive her," he said on my behalf.

"It's okay, sir. Gena is a wise girl, and with much authority, she can be handled as a lady and as my future wife," Luciano said, tilting his head and giving me a grin.

"Wife? What are you saying?" I couldn't help but ask.

"Nothing much, Gena. Just that I'm the person your dad wants you to get married to," he grinned. "I am your mate," he added, locking his hands behind him.

I left the party in anger and went back to my room. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. I opened the door and saw Dad standing there.

"Baby, may I come in?" he asked, holding his hands up in surrender.

"Why are you asking? It's your house," I told him, looking away from him. Dad entered and tried to touch my face, but I leaned away before he could.

"Gena, do you hate me?" he asked.

"Do I need to hate you?" I threw a question back at him.

"I don't know, because ever since you came back, you've been acting strange. What's happening? Tell me, don't you want to marry Luciano?" Dad asked, opening the room for answers.

I'm well aware that Dad loves me. Even though he still believes humans are evil, how do I teach him that whatever happened in the past is over, and a new era where humans and werewolves can live together is here? Although not all humans can accept the idea of werewolves being around, I know that there are people who value and love us just as we are. If only Dad could understand, we wouldn't have to shy away from civilization.

The next morning, I watched the time as I anticipated Alex. I waited for his arrival like he was the prince of England.Dad came outside, and immediately, the car drove up and stopped in front of us. Alex got down, holding his luggage. I wanted to jump on him and kiss him, but Dad was standing right next to me. I didn't want to do anything stupid."Hi, Alex," I waved at him eagerly."Gena!" He exclaimed, excited to see me."Good day, sir," Alex managed himself with his luggage, and went to greet Dad. He bowed his head and Dad loved it. He looked at me, giving me an approving smile."Welcome son, you must be a good friend of my daughter since she wants you to be here with her for a month," he said with a grin.Sophia came out and carried Alex's bags to the visitor's room. Dad, however, while he was about to question Alex, got a call that made him leave urgently. I walked Alex to his room."Hey! Did you not tell your dad that I am your boyfriend and not your friend?" He shut the door o

"Good morning, Gena! To what do I owe this morning coffee you have invited me to," Luciano said as he took up his hand and called over the waiter."What can I get you, sir?" The waiter asked."A cup of coffee, and same for my lady, I guess?" he said on my behalf."Just water, thanks," I told the waiter and he nodded and went away to get our order, thereby giving us both a chance to speak with each other."Luciano, I came to ask you for a favor," I opened up."What kind of favor? Do I have to kill someone for you?" He teased in the most barbaric manner. Why would I tell him to kill someone for me? Am I a monster? "On the contrary, I don't want to marry you," I spilled."I'm sorry?" He looked confused."Yeah! I don't want to marry you, Luciano," I didn't stammer while telling him."Oh!" The waiter returned with a glass of water for me and a cup of coffee for Luciano."May I know the reason why you don't want to marry me?" He asked immediately after the waiter left our table.“As much a

I fought the idea of going back to the party and talking to Luciano. However, Dad begged me to reconsider and was willing to take me on a shopping spree if I would accept his proposal. The old me would have jumped up and agreed, but the new me didn't need anything from him. The only thing I needed was his permission to marry the man of my choice - Alex, who was human.Dad however agreed to do as I said, but I would only have to tell him what I wanted after the party. Seeing that it wasn't a bad idea, I chose to go back to the party, smile, and pretend that everything was going well, including talking with Luciano, the rude and obnoxious man whom Dad single-handedly picked to be my mate."Go talk to Luciano, and please smile," Dad said, pushing me in the direction of where the latter stood. I reluctantly made my way to Luciano, who was talking to some guests. When he saw me approaching him, he stopped talking and gave me his full attention."Gena! You're here," he said, but his tone di

The nanny was extremely upset by what had just happened. I tried to see if I could pacify her, but she wasn't in the mood to listen to anything I wanted to say.She seemed angrier than I was, so I went to my room, where my clothes had already been arranged in the wardrobe. The nanny never slacked when it came to work."Gena, please wait. I'll get you something to eat and drink," she said, and then headed back into the kitchen. I stayed in my room until she returned a few minutes later with a bowl of pasta and a glass of wine."Here you go," she said, placing it on the table in my room."Thank you," I replied and immediately got off the bed to grab my food. As I was about to eat, I noticed the nanny staring at me intently."Why are you staring?" I asked."Nothing. I'm just happy to see you. I hope you are happy to see me too," she said as she put her hand on my head and gently patted it before leaving my room.I finally had some time to myself. After eating my meal, I went down to the

  • THE HYBRID'S DAUGHTER    The coming

Being the daughter of a well-known and beloved hybrid, there are things you can do and things you can't, friends you can keep and friends you can't. By that, I mean the hunters. My dad's hatred for them was so strong I feared that one day, it would be the death of him.I lost my mom when I was just a child. Though I don't have any recollection of her being with me, no memories, the only thing left is her picture. Her death made me rebel. Dad had every right to save her when the hunters came to attack; however, he chose to leave her behind and run with me. Although he said that whatever happened, Mom wanted it, I still didn't buy it one bit. My father is a hybrid - both a vampire and a werewolf, alpha to be precise- so why then did he let my mom die?I should also have the same level of hate for hunters as my dad, but strangely, I don't. I feel less hatred, and more of an urge to be just like them, and I hope that Dad won't find out that I still relate to those who shattered us.Looki
