Being the daughter of a well-known and beloved hybrid, there are things you can do and things you can't, friends you can keep and friends you can't. By that, I mean the hunters. My dad's hatred for them was so strong I feared that one day, it would be the death of him.

I lost my mom when I was just a child. Though I don't have any recollection of her being with me, no memories, the only thing left is her picture.

Her death made me rebel. Dad had every right to save her when the hunters came to attack; however, he chose to leave her behind and run with me. Although he said that whatever happened, Mom wanted it, I still didn't buy it one bit.

My father is a hybrid - both a vampire and a werewolf, alpha to be precise- so why then did he let my mom die?

I should also have the same level of hate for hunters as my dad, but strangely, I don't. I feel less hatred, and more of an urge to be just like them, and I hope that Dad won't find out that I still relate to those who shattered us.

Looking at the circumstances, to keep the pack and me safe from such tragedy, Dad chose to build a mansion in the middle of nowhere. The mansion was hidden from the eyes of humans, and anyone who dared to pass by the mansion was most likely going to get bitten by bulldogs.

I lived there until Dad sent me off to stay with my aunt, Amma - my mom's younger sister and also my super aunt. You can already tell that while growing up in the mansion, before moving to my aunt's, I lived my life with everyone watching my every move, and now, I would be returning to the place I considered a prison.

My one year of living with my aunt was over, and Dad wanted me back home so that he could act like my father and get me married to the son of his friend. He assured me that I would like him and find him dashing, so I was eager to see him.

The car Dad sent drove me right back to the place I swore to never go back to. I could still feel the emptiness around me, and it was as dry as it had always been. The only thing that changed was that my father had finally renovated the old-looking mansion.

"Gena!"

I walked into the mansion, and the voice of the nanny, Fatima, made me turn around. She rushed out of the kitchen and hugged me.

"Hello, nanny! I have missed you." I wrapped my arms around her and squeezed her back. I might not have missed her one bit, but I missed her great dishes and motherly love towards me.

"Gena, how have you been?" She pulled away and took my bags along with her to my bedroom.

"I have been well, but tell me, how's everyone? And Dad?"

She only nodded as I followed her to my room. It was the same room I grew up in. Although the room was repainted and the curtains and furniture were still brand new, I noticed that the picture of my little self on the wall was still intact.

"Your dad is fine. He is at a meeting," she said as she opened my box and began to unpack for me.

"Really, what meeting? The Alpha's meeting, right?" I jumped on my bed, and it creaked.

"Yeah! The usual," the nanny told me whilst arranging my clothes in the wardrobe.

I left the nanny in my room, and I went downstairs. I went into the kitchen for a bottle of water; however, I saw an uncovered pot on the gas stove. The minute I tried to look inside the huge pot, a young girl rushed in and quickly covered the pot.

"Hey, who are you?" She pushed me away from beside her as if I had a strange sickness and she didn't want to contract it.

"I should be asking you!" I laughed.

"Really? Do you not know that the maids aren't supposed to be here without permission?" She laid down all the rules and regulations, and not once did I utter a single word. I watched her reprimand me, and her voice was loud as hell.

"What is happening?" The nanny asked as she came to see what was happening in the kitchen. She was stunned to see me in the corner of the kitchen, with another girl who was about my age, shouting at me.

"Sophia! What's going on?" The nanny interrogated her as she held my hand and pulled me away. I stayed behind her and listened quietly to what she had to say.

"Ma'am, I saw this girl trying to steal from the pot of stew," she said as she opened the cover of the pot and demonstrated the situation.

"Oh my gosh! Have you lost it? If Gena wants to open the pot, what is your business with that?" The nanny took the cover away from her and yelled. Her reaction was so shocking that Sophia couldn't help but ask questions.

"Ma'am, did I perhaps do anything wrong?"

"Yeah! You did because the girl you just called a thief is the daughter of Mr. Rayburn," the nanny revealed to Sophia.

"Wait! She's the hybrid's daughter?" Sophia repeated in shock.

"Yes, and you just made a huge mistake by calling her a thief," the nanny said, holding my hand and dragging me away. I turned back, and I could see Sophia in a state of shock. I was certain that she didn't know about my identity; otherwise, she wouldn't have insulted me.

I didn't want my dad to hear about it because the nanny might have been lenient, but I trusted my dad to do worse. He would not be happy to hear that his daughter got insulted by a worker at the mansion for no reason.

The next morning, I watched the time as I anticipated Alex. I waited for his arrival like he was the prince of England.Dad came outside, and immediately, the car drove up and stopped in front of us. Alex got down, holding his luggage. I wanted to jump on him and kiss him, but Dad was standing right next to me. I didn't want to do anything stupid."Hi, Alex," I waved at him eagerly."Gena!" He exclaimed, excited to see me."Good day, sir," Alex managed himself with his luggage, and went to greet Dad. He bowed his head and Dad loved it. He looked at me, giving me an approving smile."Welcome son, you must be a good friend of my daughter since she wants you to be here with her for a month," he said with a grin.Sophia came out and carried Alex's bags to the visitor's room. Dad, however, while he was about to question Alex, got a call that made him leave urgently. I walked Alex to his room."Hey! Did you not tell your dad that I am your boyfriend and not your friend?" He shut the door o

"Good morning, Gena! To what do I owe this morning coffee you have invited me to," Luciano said as he took up his hand and called over the waiter."What can I get you, sir?" The waiter asked."A cup of coffee, and same for my lady, I guess?" he said on my behalf."Just water, thanks," I told the waiter and he nodded and went away to get our order, thereby giving us both a chance to speak with each other."Luciano, I came to ask you for a favor," I opened up."What kind of favor? Do I have to kill someone for you?" He teased in the most barbaric manner. Why would I tell him to kill someone for me? Am I a monster? "On the contrary, I don't want to marry you," I spilled."I'm sorry?" He looked confused."Yeah! I don't want to marry you, Luciano," I didn't stammer while telling him."Oh!" The waiter returned with a glass of water for me and a cup of coffee for Luciano."May I know the reason why you don't want to marry me?" He asked immediately after the waiter left our table.“As much a

I fought the idea of going back to the party and talking to Luciano. However, Dad begged me to reconsider and was willing to take me on a shopping spree if I would accept his proposal. The old me would have jumped up and agreed, but the new me didn't need anything from him. The only thing I needed was his permission to marry the man of my choice - Alex, who was human.Dad however agreed to do as I said, but I would only have to tell him what I wanted after the party. Seeing that it wasn't a bad idea, I chose to go back to the party, smile, and pretend that everything was going well, including talking with Luciano, the rude and obnoxious man whom Dad single-handedly picked to be my mate."Go talk to Luciano, and please smile," Dad said, pushing me in the direction of where the latter stood. I reluctantly made my way to Luciano, who was talking to some guests. When he saw me approaching him, he stopped talking and gave me his full attention."Gena! You're here," he said, but his tone di

The following morning, I didn't wake up early. However, the nanny banged on my door several times, leaving me with no choice but to get out of bed.I opened the door and greeted my nanny who didn't explain what was happening. She only told me to get ready and come downstairs for breakfast. Annoyed by the early morning disturbance, I reluctantly brushed and took a bath, and then went downstairs to find out what the whole thing was about. To my surprise, my dad had invited some people that I couldn't recognize. One of them was holding a bag, whilst the other seemed lost in thought."Dad, what are you doing?" I asked."Gena! Thank God you're awake," he said, putting both his hands on my shoulders and pulling me forward, "This is your makeup artist and designer. They will both glam you up for the party happening tonight," he told me, sounding very enthusiastic."A party? Whose party?" I asked him."Yours, baby. It's a huge celebration of your return, and also, your marriage," he said. His

The nanny was extremely upset by what had just happened. I tried to see if I could pacify her, but she wasn't in the mood to listen to anything I wanted to say.She seemed angrier than I was, so I went to my room, where my clothes had already been arranged in the wardrobe. The nanny never slacked when it came to work."Gena, please wait. I'll get you something to eat and drink," she said, and then headed back into the kitchen. I stayed in my room until she returned a few minutes later with a bowl of pasta and a glass of wine."Here you go," she said, placing it on the table in my room."Thank you," I replied and immediately got off the bed to grab my food. As I was about to eat, I noticed the nanny staring at me intently."Why are you staring?" I asked."Nothing. I'm just happy to see you. I hope you are happy to see me too," she said as she put her hand on my head and gently patted it before leaving my room.I finally had some time to myself. After eating my meal, I went down to the
