The Pregnancy Report

The pregnancy report trembled in my hands . Two pink lines. Positive.

For a long moment, I just stared at the paper, my heart pounding so loudly it drowned out every other sound around me.

Pregnant.

After three years of marriage… I was finally carrying his child. A shaky laugh slipped past my lips before I could stop it. My fingers curled protectively around the report as warmth flooded my chest.

“An heir…” I whispered softly.

Alpha Kael Blackthorn had always wanted a strong heir. Everyone in the Silverfang Pack knew it. Children born from fated mates were said to be the strongest, blessed by the Moon Goddess herself.

And I was his fated mate.

His wife.

My throat tightened as emotion welled inside me. Maybe… just maybe… this would finally change everything.

Maybe he would look at me differently. Maybe he would finally accept me.

Maybe… he would love me.

I pressed the report against my chest, unable to stop the hopeful smile tugging at my lips.

“I have to tell him,” I murmured.

Without wasting another second, I grabbed my coat and hurried out into the cold night air.

The city lights flickered like distant stars, glowing against the dark sky as I made my way toward the high-end bar where Kael was attending a gathering tonight.

I had spent the entire afternoon rehearsing what I would say.

Kael… we’re going to have a baby.

The words echoed in my mind, making my heart race faster with every step.

I imagined his expression softening.

Imagined him pulling me into his arms.

Imagined him—just this once—smiling at me.

That fragile hope carried me all the way to the entrance of the bar. Golden lights spilled from inside, illuminating the sleek glass doors. Music pulsed faintly through the walls, mixed with laughter and cheerful voices.

My fingers tightened around the pregnancy report.

“Calm down,” I whispered to myself, taking a steadying breath. Then I stepped forward. And through the glass…I saw him. My steps froze instantly.

Kael sat in the center of the room like a king surrounded by his court, his tall frame relaxed against the leather couch. His sharp jawline was lit by the soft glow of the chandelier above.

But it wasn’t him that made my breath catch. It was the woman leaning against him.

Selene Frost. Her slender body pressed close to his side, her hand resting lightly on his shoulder as she laughed, her voice carrying through the glass like a cruel echo from the past. My heartbeat stuttered painfully.

Selene had returned. The welcome-back party… this was for her. I stood there, unmoving, my fingers tightening around the paper until it crumpled slightly.

Inside, Selene tilted her head, her long silver-blonde hair cascading over her shoulder as she leaned even closer to Kael.

“Kael,” she said sweetly, her voice dripping with familiarity, “did you miss me?”

A ripple of laughter spread across the room. Kael didn’t push her away.

He didn’t move.

He simply sat there, his expression as cold and unreadable as ever… yet he allowed her to stay that close. Allowed her touch.

Allowed her presence.

Allowed everything.

Something sharp twisted deep inside my chest. Around them, the pack members cheered loudly.

“You two still look perfect together!”

“Silverfang’s future Alpha and Luna—just like before!”

“They were always meant to be!”

Their laughter rang out like knives slicing through my heart. I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly dry. Someone near Kael let out a mocking chuckle.

“Speaking of Luna…” he said casually, swirling his drink. “Where’s that rogue wife of yours tonight, Alpha?”

More laughter erupted. I froze outside the door, unable to move… unable to breathe. Another voice chimed in, dripping with ridicule.

“I heard she chased after you shamelessly back then, Alpha. No pride at all.”

“Yeah,” someone else added mockingly. “No matter how you treat her—even if you’re seen with other women—she still sticks around like a loyal stray.” Laughter burst out again. My fingers trembled violently.

Surely…

Surely Kael would deny it.

Surely he would defend me.

Even just once.

But inside…

He said nothing.

Not a single word.

Not a single denial. The silence from him felt louder than any insult.

Hot tears stung the corners of my eyes, but I forced them back stubbornly.

Then another voice spoke, curious and sharp.

“Alpha Kael… did you really marry that wolfless rogue just because children born from fated mates are the strongest?”

The room quieted slightly.

All eyes turned toward him. Even Selene looked up expectantly.

My breath caught painfully in my throat.

Kael lifted his glass lazily, swirling the amber liquid inside.

“Yes,” he said coldly.

The single word hit me harder than a slap. My world tilted violently. He continued, his voice low and merciless. “That rogue"

His lips curled slightly, disdain fl

ashing in his dark eyes.

She is not worthy to be my Luna.

The words struck like lightning.

“And she is certainly not worthy,” he added icily, “to be the mother of my child.”

You watched me leave, and you didn't come looking for me until you discovered I was carrying your child."Kael flinched."Now you're standing in front of me again, telling me that strangers want to take me away because of a secret you somehow know about."She shook her head."Why should I trust anything you say?""You shouldn't have to trust me blindly."The answer surprised her.Kael continued."I know what I've done to you.
