CHAPTER 5: OTHER IDENTITY

CORA

I was so lost in thought that I never heard the car until it kept honking.

I stepped aside, hoping the car would drive away, but it parked right beside me. A very handsome, tall man in an expensive suit alighted, and I immediately looked up at his six-foot height and recognised him as Diamond Kex.

There wasn't a soul who didn't know Diamond Kex in our world. He was a technology billionaire and one of the richest on Forbes list, so what could he possibly want with me?

“Hi, Cora. I assume you know who I am?”

“Yes, I do, Mr Kex. What do you want from me?”

“I need you to help me with a job.”

“What type of job are you talking about?”

“I need you to hack a network and help me investigate a case.”

“You have the wrong person, I'm sorry.”

“Where are you going next, Cora?”

“That's none of your damned business.” I snapped.

“I don't know you, so we don't have to be so familiar with each other.”

“You look lost. I can help you, give you a place to stay, help you rebuild your life, and give you a fantastic job? Zen Core.”

I froze the moment he called me by that name and looked around us everywhere.

Nobody called me by that name, and that file had been sealed years back, so what was happening?

“How do you know that name?”

He chuckled and scoffed.

“Come with me, and you will find out.”

You've got nothing else to lose, Cora, and you have nowhere to go right now, so just go with him.

Katiana had just given me a risky answer, but what other alternative did I have?

I had no shelter or money to use, so it was best for me to see where this led.

“Alright. Let's go.”

We got into the car, and the driver started driving.

I waited for him to bring up the name. What circumstance led to his discovery of me? He said nothing. Instead, he kept on using his tablet.

At some point, I got fed up with the silence and cleared my throat very loudly: “I am not very comfortable with your silence, Mr Diamond. What exactly is it that you want from me?”

He dropped the tablet and then shook his head: “You are quite impatient, aren't you, Cora? You've got a lot of fire in you, so why did you allow your ex-mate and family members to keep taking advantage of you without saying anything to them?”

“We will not be discussing my past life or my decision-making skills, Mr Diamond. That cannot be the reason you brought me out here; besides, that isn't your business, so instead of stalling for time, kindly enlighten me on what this is really about.”

“I'm going to need you for a job, but for you to understand the job itself, there are things you need to see by yourself, which is why I've been quiet. I can't harm you, Cora. I'm the one who needs your help mostly right now.”

“Does the job you're about to offer have anything to do with the identity Zen Core? If it does, I can't help you anymore. I already gave that identity up, and I do not live that life anymore.”

“You gave up your identity and won't be living like that anymore. Not even for Thirteen billion pounds in payment for the job?”

I must have misheard him because if I did hear him correctly, he just offered Thirteen Billion Pounds, not thousands or millions. What on earth could he want help with for him to offer this outrageous amount to me just like that?

I gave up being Zen Core completely and only used that identity twice, and in both situations it was to help my ungrateful mate Daniel, who until now believes that the prosperity he enjoys and the goodies he's been enjoying are all part of his hard work when he never really did anything.

I stayed quiet this time around, and the car kept driving until it wasn't.

The car parked, and someone opened the door of the car, and we stepped out.

The place was huge and beautiful, with a touch of Mother Nature present as the green fields stretched on continuously.

There had been speculations and rumours about Diamond's network and the things he owned in the nation. He was always in the spotlight and was always being discussed by one news outlet or the other.

He was so used to it that I was certain it never bothered him anymore, as it came with the vice of being a young billionaire in our nation.

“Welcome, Alpha.” Everyone greeted him with so much reverence, and it was obvious that he had a good relationship with them and that he was very much loved by his pack members.

Immediately, we stepped into the mansion, which was huge and breathtaking. Two little girls barrelled out and practically climbed on Diamond's head, and he laughed heartily, but judging from the scent they carried, they were his kids.

“Hiya, Dad.” They both kissed his cheek loudly and sloppily while he simply laughed.

This was probably the part of him that the media and the rest of the nation never got to see about him.

These were twin girls who couldn't be much older than five years old, but they were absolutely beautiful with their unique green and silver eyes, which made me fall in love with them almost immediately.

“Hello, are you Daddy's friend? I'm Maria, and my sister's name is Magix. It's so nice to meet you.”

I couldn't help but chuckle at how endearing this little angel was.

“Nice to meet you, Maria and Magix. My name is Cora.”

“Welcome, Cora. We're going to be best of friends, Pinkyswear.” Magix said with so much excitement.

I laughed at that, but the atmosphere suddenly shifted as a very beautiful, slim blonde walked inside. She looked at me warily before stepping into the living room; then, the brightest smile I'd ever seen on anyone overtook Diamond's face.

“Hello, wifey.”
