CHAPTER 4: HATRED

MASON

I had no idea what she did to me, but how do you explain to people that you hated your daughter without them looking at you strangely?

Heaven knows I tried to love her, but I just couldn't bring myself to care for her.

“He did that because you got too fat and did nothing about it. A true Luna doesn't look like you.”

“So you knew? You both knew?”

“Of course we did. Only you would be gullible enough to believe that we never knew.”

“And you support what your darling Claire did?”

“She did nothing wrong.”

“Tell me I was right to leave him.”

I scoffed and sat back down, comfortably adjusting my posture.

She took her things and walked out.

“That was our child, Mason. You shouldn't have been that harsh on her.”

“Oh please.”

I stood up and walked away from my wife and mate.

How on earth does the girl even have my blood flowing in her?

She was lazy, fat, and had no ambition or life of her own.

I'd expected her to take advantage of the Luna position she held a thousand times to make the family better, but no. She was busy being a good wife and mother.

I had watched Claire manipulate and gaslight her for years without getting involved, I had even helped Claire deceive her, but I felt absolutely no pity for her.

She could have become a lot of things, but she'd choose to be a doormat to everyone even as Luna.

Thankfully, my grandchild was of Alpha's blood, and he wouldn't inherit her spineless nature. This was the only thing she at least did right.

Even her son wanted Claire, not her, and I totally understood him. Claire was fun, but she was absolutely like a robot.

Daniel could have picked a younger beta, but I'd given him the condition of being his beta if he was going to be her mate thinking he'd refuse, but he'd agreed almost immediately.

I still wondered in my spare time why he really mated with her when he obviously hated her, but I also hated her so….

I had seen no obvious talent from Cora, even her wolf was lazy and the bitch hated me down but the feeling was mutual.

After she had Tobias, her wolf never allowed anyone except Daniel to hold the child as if I'd hurt the Alpha coming from my lineage for the first time in my generation.

I'd wanted a son so bad when her mother was pregnant with her but somehow I got stuck with her instead.

All she ever did was cry as a toddler and there had been a day I'd wanted to throw her over a cliff but my mate had caught me and immediately took her away.

We had adopted Claire but unlike her, Claire had always been an absolute angel who made us proud.

We had adopted Claire because my mate had given birth to our son who died at birth.

A huge part of me had even blamed Cora for the death of our son and the adoption of Claire had comforted us.

As I walked by, different pack members kept bowing in respect and I loved every second of it.

I got to the Alpha's place and met a very tense atmosphere.

I cleared my throat: “Greetings Alpha.”

“Hey gramps.” Tobias greeted me enthusiastically and I laughed.

“Hey champ.”

“Mama left. Aunty Claire is going to be my new mama now.”

“Stop saying that Tobias.”

I could immediately tell right then that they'd been having a very heated argument because of Cora.

“Mason, where do you think she went?”

“I don't know. She'd get tired soon enough and return back home.”

“This is going to be a huge problem, Alpha. The council won't take things easy for us. The gamma remarked and I scoffed.

“Are you not even concerned about what might have happened to her Mason? That's supposed to be your daughter. Claire is the adopted child.”

“I know nothing about her movement. She isn't a child so she can watch her own back.”

I wasn't the least bit worried about her, if anything I wish she never returns to spoil things for us.

I had an agreement and plan with Claire on how to take control of the Alpha and when it was time I'd take up the position of Alpha.

I'd be damned if I let some fat little girl ruin things for me.

Tobias was a sweet gullible child who had been feeding Claire continuous information.

No matter how much her mother bagged me to go look for her I'd simply ignored her because I had better things to calculate now.

I listened to the gamma rant about what the council might do in punishment for losing her.

“You can just mate Claire and make her your mate.”

“It's not simple.” Daniel snapped in response.

I watched as Daniel and the gamma made new plans in silence as I prayed they would never find her.

She needed to stay wherever she wanted but she couldn't come back to ruin things for me.

I nodded at Claire to let her know our plans were going smoothly and in no time we'd be a step closer to achieving what it was that we wanted to achieve.

The whole day passed with everyone still in search of Cora to no avail.

Claire looked pissed and irritated as she looked at Daniel but there was nothing she could do to him or about it.

I needed a game changer that'd get me back in the good graces of Daniel and fast.

It wasn't like he ever treated her any better than I did or any other person in the pack but suddenly he cares which means his wolf was acting up.

Claire scoffed as she came to sit beside me but before she could say anything, some guards rushed in: “Alpha, you've been summoned by the council.” Daniel groaned in frustration after he heard them.
