CHAPTER FOUR

With each step, his face became clearer to Luna. She could see he had a five o'clock shadow and a tattoo that peeked through his open buttons. He was like a neat mess. His shirt was tucked halfway, his eyes were compelling and he never let it shift from her.

Luna doubted if the courage she had to fix her eyes on him and patiently await his arrival was hers. It was probably the alcohol. Alexander was too intimidating to make you wanna stay in his presence.

His shoes echoed as it hit the floor softly. Now that he was just a couple of feet away, Luna observed how his lips were shaped quite oddly; a prominent Cupid's bow and a deep dimple at the right corner of his lips. But it was feminine, curved naturally upward and its color could rival that of any woman out there.

Luna was too caught in his facial features and how hot he was, she hadn't noticed he was now before her. Not just him, behind him were his guards with their guns stuck to their waist. Luna took a cautious step back, she rubbed her chilly skin and looked up again.

Damn! He was tall, she had to strain her neck in order to look into his eyes. She shivered from the intense gaze of his. Unlike from afar where she observed, his eyes were dark, now she could see how hollow, void and cold they were. His large eyeballs coupled with prominent triple eyelids did little to mask his hard facials. Both his beauty and his gaze were glaring in an intimidating way.

Luna didn't know what to say. He was towering over her in the deserted street with his armed guards.

Was he going to kill her? Funny how the thought didn't scare her. This was one of the reasons she loved alcohol, it gave you mock courage, just like the insane thing she did next.

"Boss!" In the most exaggerated voice ever, Luna bellowed and bowed so deeply, her forehead nearly scraped the clean road.

There was silence.

A long excruciating silence.

She waited for him to speak, to summon her up, but nothing.

Blood began pumping into her ears, but no one seemed to say anything. Still in her position, she wished she could see the expression on Alexander's face.

Was he taking his time to access her? Could he see she had no tattoo? Was he withdrawing his gun?

For just a split second, Luna began to panic.

Then, warm hands grabbed her shoulders firmly and tugged her up. The hands steadied her and drew her closer to an equally warm body. Neither the hand nor the body belonged to Alexander.

"I'm sorry boss, I brought her here, but she lost her way. I'll take her now, I promise not to let her cause anymore trouble and I apologize for any misunderstandings that happened . Goodnight!"

Luna didn't understand what was happening. A man had spoken the above statements so fast, bowed and began to drag her away. Luna turned, she met Alexander's passive eyes before they turned down the corner where the dragging stopped.

"Do you want to die!" The stranger asked her, when he was sure that he had full control over her actions.

"No."

"Do you've any idea who that man is?"

"Yes."

"Are you...drunk?"

"Yes."

"What the-"

When the conversation spiraled down, Luna looked up to see who had dragged her away from Alexander and took it upon himself to scold her.

He was tall too with a broad face and plump lips that stood out on his features. His hair was tousled. Above all, he was handsome. What was it with good looking men tonight?

"My bad, I'm Christian." A dazzling smile broke out and Luna had to admit he looked twice as good looking as before with that smile. Randomly, she imagined what Alexander would look like with a smile on.

"How did you find me? How did you also get away from Alexander so easily." She asked, forcing the man to stop in his tracks.

Christian waved his hands dismissively and scoffed lightly. "I'm his right hand man. Don't think we got away, I'll answer him later."

Luna was getting drowsy by the second, she was losing interest in the formalities.

"Miles has been worried, come, I'll lead you back home, miss..."

"Luna." Luna offered.

"Right miss Luna, your alpha is here at your service." Christian bowed mockingly. His personality didn't match that of a mafia. Alexander being a good example.

**********

Damn the sun and the birds! Luna cursed in her head, as the sun shone brightly on her face.

Luna blinked her eyes open, hating how the rays of the sun cascaded on her face through the window. The birds weren't any better, they sang loudly and successfully awoke Luna from her sleep.

The bed was soft, the pillows smell of aftershave contrary to the Jasmine she was used to.

She sat up, all that happened yesterday came flooding into her brain. Accused of murder, moved to Alexander's community for refuge, got drunk, saw Alexander and met Christi- Alexander! Had she really met him or was it just the alcohol she had that messed with her head?

There was no way she met Alexander and she was still alive. The rumors, judging by the rumors he would have killed her. She had no tattoo, that was enough to- Christian! The man who saved her.

"Hey, come down for breakfast!"

Her thoughts were interrupted by Miles calling. A smile crept up her face, she was now living with her brother.

At least she was going to be seeing him everyday unlike before, when it was rare.

"You shouldn't be wandering, especially when you're a drunk." Miles scolded once she came down and joined him in the kitchen.

"So I did get drunk..." Luna noted sipping her tea. She chewed on the cold bread with no enthusiasm.

A certain long haired but cold stranger kept popping into her head. Was that Alexander? It was going to be a disappointment if she only met him in her drunk state.

"Miles?" She suddenly called out to her brother. she needed some answers.

"Hm?"

"What's Alexander like?"

Miles deliberately chewed on his bread slowly, he gulped down his tea, but refused to speak immediately.

"You call him boss here.." He corrected first. "..and he's like everyone out there. Nothing out of the ordinary."

Right, he didn't want to talk about his boss obviously, so Luna let the conversation go.

Determination was always her weak point, whenever Luna got curious, she was willing to go any length to satisfy it.

Hence, why she stood on the porch waiting for her brother to disappear from her view, so she could leave too.

Luna was determined to find out if it had really been Alexander she saw. His dark eyes weren't leaving her mind, even as she trudged down the road she had taken last night.

"It must have been him.. I remember the route I took clearly." Luna spoke to herself recalling the two ladies who had passed her by giggling about Alexander.

Just a few more steps, she stood a few feet away from the massive mansion. The guards, the car Alexander had tried to get in before he caught sight of her, everything was in place.

Curiously, she took a step forward. If only Alexander would emerge just like yesterday. Luna took another step, her eyes fixed intently at the entrance of the mansion. She so badly wanted to get in.

Realizing it was a stupid idea to stand before the armed guards who were looking around at alert for any unusual being, Luna ducked behind a building.

From the block that hid her well, she continued to peek.

"Please come out... please come out." Luna chanted silently to herself.

She lifted her head slightly to take a look again, but shuddered at the hefty man glaring down at her.

It was one of the guards!

Luna swallowed, he was huge and had a face worthy of evoking fear.

"Who are you?" His voice was thick and it rumbled.

She got to her feet, nervously looking at the mansion once again. Two more guards joined them to inquire what was happening.

"Hello!" Luna waved meekly hoping she could bluff her way out.

"Why are you lingering?" One of the two who had joined questioned. He had a thick Russian accent that Luna admired.

"I-" An excuse, anything at all! But, it seemed a plausible lie had deserted her.

Then, all of a sudden "look! She doesn't have a tattoo!" someone screamed out.

Shit!

Before she could process what was happening, one of his guns was pointed at her.

"I-" Luna tried to speak, but was interrupted by the Russian accented man.

"Where's your plaque?"

Luna cursed Miles for not letting her have the plaque when she asked for it.

Taking her silence for not having any, one of them pointed his gun at her.

"Don't shoot her, she could be a spy. I think it's best we take her to the boss."

Boss? Alexander?

Roughly, one of them grabbed her arm and began to lead her into the mansion, while the rest followed with their guns at alert.

A ghost of a smile graced Luna's face, one which the guard noticed.

"Do not jubilate! Because the boss is never gonna let you live."

The smile disappeared as they crossed the entrance and into the mansion.

The one she so badly wanted to get in.
