The screams were loudest in the south. They were like the loud ringing that filled his ears and reminded him of how far he had come. He tossed and turned amongst the sheets hoping to get rid of them.
He had hoped it was a feeling he would never have to experience. He remembered the day all too well and now as he stood in the field and he was familiarized with the sounds of his fathers screams he ran towards him instinctively. Without warning he pulled him into his arms as he watched his eyes roll back.
“Father.” He cried out desperately.
He watched as he coughed lightly before his body lurched forward and he stared at him with an eerie blank stare in his eyes.
“This is your fault. You did this.” He said to him in a whisper and instinctively he reached out to hold him. “No father. It was a mistake, I swear. I didn't mean to.” He said violently.
But the only words that came out of his mouth were harsh frowls. He could hear faint sounds in the distance but they came out as a muffled noise. He watched as his father morphed into a wolf and without warning raised his razor sharp claws and pierced his chest.
“You don't deserve the love.” He spat and then everything went blank.
…
Xavier sat up abruptly on his bed as his heart beat rapidly against his chest. He took a moment to allow for his vision to clear so that he would be able to see clearly.
He felt a warm hand against his chest and flinched back lightly when she made contact with the scar on his chest. “Dont.” He hissed and he watched as Scarlet seemed apprehensive at first before pulling away.
“Was it another dream?” She said to him in a whisper but she knew all too well what it meant. He sighed in frustration running a hand through his hair as he shot out of bed.
“The dreams are back. Stronger than before. You are supposed to be making them go away.” He hissed as he glared at her. He let out a sigh as he watched her stand up from the the bed as the small bump over her abdomen became visible in the moonlight.
He didn't move as she made her way over and wrapped her arms around his back. She pressed her head into the coverage of his back and he felt his muscles slowly ease.
“I am sorry.” He muttered. She hummed as she said to him. “I know you are. We are just going to have to try something else.” She said with a determination in her voice.
He turned around to look at her and she noticed the vulnerability in his eyes. “I don't know how much longer I can do this. Maybe it isn't right.” He said to her in a slightly hesitant tone.
She pulled him towards the bed forcing him to the floor. As she sat around his legs. “You know I would only ever do what is best for you.” She said as she pressed her palms against his temple.
“Now close your eyes and let me help you forget.” She said to him, He hummed as he did as she had asked of him.
He felt a surge of energy go through him. “What would I do without you?” He said to her softly as he felt his mind lighten.
She smirked at him knowingly before she muttered as he went under her influence. “You would be out of a mate and best friend. And I wouldn't be getting what I want.
Xavier had one weakness and that was the fact that he had always been so quick to trust those around him. He wasn't aware of it yet but in the end what he thought would make him strong again would be the very thing to cripple him.
….
Nora
My heart beat rapidly against my chest as I moved through the thick foliage. I clutched the satchel close to my chest as though I was afraid that if I were to let it go it would disappear.
I had searched too hard and risked too much to find the Crescent Orb for it to slip through my fingers. I was relieved as I finally made my way through the trees.
I spotted the thatched hut with cracked walls in the distance and for the first time that day I felt a sense of relief to see the blue light of our lantern still glowing outside the door.
Hang in there Papa.
I thought to myself as I cast a spell to put out the light. It was our silent way of communicating. Blue meant that he was home and safe, green meant the house was secure and red... well you don't want to know what red meant.
I pushed open the door slowly as I heard it creak notifying him of my presence. I scanned my eyes over the room and spotted my dad's pale form laying on the mattress in the corner. I rushed over towards him as I crouched down beside him.
"Nora," he said in a shaky voice as he reached out his hand to grab mine. "I am glad that you were able to come before it's too late." He rasped. I pulled my satchel off my body as I opened it up to retrieve the orb. "Save your strength papa. I have the crescent orb. I will heal you and it will all be okay." I said to him desperately.
But he shook his head at me in response. "There is no need for that daughter. It is too late for me. I want you to use it to save yourself. Give it to Zoran in exchange for your safety." He whispered.
"What? What are you talking about? You need this. And who is coming?" I asked desperately as I tried to hand him over the orb. He shoved it back towards me shaking his head as he took a hold of my hand.
"Open up. By the order of Zoran!!" The men yelled from behind the door. Papa's eyes flashed blue and I watched as a single tear slid down his cheek. "You are my greatest treasure. My only regret is that I am no longer able to protect you. There are a lot of enemies that will come for you. You must stand strong and protect your gift." He spoke, I found myself struggling to speak as I heard a loud pounding on our front door.
I turned towards it but Papa spoke up again before I could say anything else. "Don't be afraid of them." He then raised his shaky hand towards my shoulder and I watched as it glowed. I felt my entire body begin to vibrate as it glowed a bright blue.
I could hear the sound of the men banging against the door and I was left helpless as I watched Papa's body slumb against the mattress as the barrier fell from around the hut.
"You will always be my moon and stars." Were the last words my Papa uttered before he left me. Everything happened quickly after that as the men barged down the door and turned my life upside down.
Nora woke up covered in a sweat. She couldn't help but let out a sharp groan from her lips as she ran her hand over her face. She squinted her eyes as she looked around the room and tried to adjust her vision. She cursed slightly under her breath when she was quick to come to the realization that she had only managed to sleep for a few hours. She sighed as she slowly sat up in the lumpy mattress. She clicked her fingers and watched as the red glowing light in her hut came alive. She glared at it in irritation as it seemed theee faus that it almost constantly showed her emotions of distress. She made her way out of bed as she realized that it was as good a time as any for her to get up and start working on some of her spells. It helped her avoid the other coven witches and she was able to train without being ridiculed.FreakOrphan scumWeirdoTreason’s daughterThe names went on. Only the tip of the iceberg of the names that she seemed to be called. And yet she still refused to believ
Nora readjusted the spaghetti strap of her dress as she groaned in frustration. She opened up a small portal to take in her appearance in the mirror as she took a fleeting moment to take in the crisp white lace dress. She knew that the event was just a formality and although she found it demeaning that she was forced to wear white to represent her purity and mauden status she had to admit that the dress did look good on her.She could almost feel her body erupt with excitement as she thought back to the ceremony. It was finally going to be over and she would expose Zoran as the traitor and the coward he was in front of the people. She only hoped that when she revealed his true colors and the true extent of his power the people would side with her and they wouldn't cower away out of fear. She knew that she had to be brave, there were surely those that would call her word nothing more than the ramblings of a desperate woman but what she had seen in that orb was enough for her to believe
There is only so much patience that one can endure before they feel the urge to pull their hair out. Nora knew that what she had done was ambitious to say the least. She had looked in the eye of what was supposed to be some sort of a supreme leader and She had basically told him that she didn’t care. that she was well aware of what they were doing. She knew that it would get her killed but she also knew that Zoran wasn’t willing to risk it .Essentially she had poisoned the fountain. it was his one source of power aside from the orb. It was something that he still didn't fully understand how to use, the truth was that she was the only one who could uncover its secrets and now without the fountain they were at a disadvantage. It wasn’t only Zoran who relied on its power but the coven as a whole. She wasn’t sure how to feel about it. Being responsible for it but she wasn’t going to apologize for what she had done. It wasn’t her fault. They had made their bed and it was time for them to l
His heart was racing against his chest. He could smell the thick smoke that surrounded him. His heart beat frantically as he tried to make out the scene that was around him. But he couldn’t see anything. He watched as a moment later the room was illuminated with light and he wished that he could go back and make it stop.He was met with the sight of the packhouse on fire. He was on his knees as he heard several screams coming from inside the house. He looked towards it frantically as he saw several silhouettes through the glass. He felt his heart race as he tried to get up but he was weak. He felt the whisper in his ear as he tried to say what it was. He didn’t want to think too much about it as she tried not to be bothered by it all as he let out a sigh from her lips as he tried to make his way over towards it. He huffed as he ducked it in and tried to make himself calm.He let out a sigh from his lips at the very thought as he tried to calm himself. He heard his name being called fr
Samuel was nervous. He woke up with a deep pounding in his head early in the morning and he wasn’t sure how to react. It was from his Alpha and he made it clear that it was urgent that he came over. He felt his heart beating frantically against his chest as he raced to his feet in a rush to find out exactly what it was that the alpha wanted. He wouldn’t put it past him if it was to go on another errand run for the Luna. Although everyone around them seemed to have the Luna , he wasn't entirely her biggest fan. He didn’t know why and he couldn’t quite put his finger on it but he had never really settled well with the fact that the alpha had chosen her as his mate rather than waiting for his actual mate.It wasn’t his place to say anything but his believed mates were a sacred thing and they weren’t something that was meant to be messed with. It was as though he was throwing away all the principals that their pack was built upon and no one seemed to care. Everyone else seemed to love her
He watched as her head fell back against the chair as the girl fell unconscious. He had today that there was a part of him that was slightly impressed that she was able to make it this long. At least that was how he felt. He let out. A sigh from his lips as he shook his head at the thought and tried to keep himself composed. He turned to the side and looked towards Trent before gesturing for him to move closer. “I want her packed up and put back in her cell. One meal for today. I don’t need her dyeing on me just yet, I haven’t gotten enough blood that I want. I am going to need more. “ he said and he watched as the figure beside him trembled slightly as his hands shook. He wondered what it was but he didn’t bother to say anything to him.“Well, I wanted to ask you, sir. how much longer are you going to keep her here.” He asked and he couldn’t help but grit his teeth at the sheer audacity of the man. “It doesn't matter what I want. You will do as I say. .now pick her up and so as you a
“Well, we need one of your healers to come with me to my pack. My alpha is willing to pay his weight in gold in order for your best healer to come along with us. Also if you would be so kind I would need someone to help me with this wound.” The man said Zoran didn’t show the sympathy that the man had expected. Instead he looked towards him with a calculating gaze as he placed his hand in his chin and appeared to be deep in thought.“So what would you then be offering? You say that you are going to do all these things but the truth is that we don’t need gold. We have more than enough of it. In fact we have witches who can make their own gold.” he said to him barely. “Well if you give us the right witch I am certain that the alpha is willing to pay any price.” He said and that only caused Zoran to grin brighter. He didn’t like the tone that his words were taking and he had to admit that he was a fan of desperation as well.He let out a sigh from his lips as he ran a hand through his hai
Nora was brought back to her senses when she felt a loud banging against her head. She groaned as she was able to slowly pull her eye open and found herself sitting in a chair. It was a large office and she realized that it was that of Zoran. She widened her eyes instinctively as she became alert all of a sudden .”Relax, everything is going to be alright.” She heard a voice call out from beside her, she turned to her side as she came face to face with a tall man.He seemed eerily familiar in that moment and she widened her eyes in shock as she let out. A gasp from her lips as she remembered what had happened earlier. How they had come into her cell and pulled her out. Instinctively she turned towards the front as she spotted Zoran sitting in his chair staring at her with great caution in his gaze. she couldn't help but wonder what was going on and what it was that he was playing at. “What is going on here?” she said to herself asking in a shaky voice. she watched as he grinned at h
