CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

I fluttered my eyes open; for a moment I tried to steady my breath as the scene in the woods played before me. My breaths were labored; cold sweats ran down my forehead as my body lay limp and paralyzed on the bed.

The weird feeling, the rogue, the fight, and June. It all played over and over again.

I closed my eyes multiple times trying to unsee it and wave it off, but it just kept playing. My breaths got heavier; it felt like something heavy was on my chest as I struggled to breathe.

I could see Isla's scorn and my parents disappointment. ‘I disown you, you're no longer our daughter,’ echoed in my head.

I opened my mouth to scream, but only air came out, and soon I was struggling to breathe. With each eye shut, the picture of the rogue slicing into my sides replayed in my head, and the pain came back.

What is this? Is this a nightmare? But I'm awake? Why am I having a daylight nightmare?.
