We landed at the airstrip designated for guests visiting the kingdom, where we were immediately informed that we would be taken to a manor assigned to us. At the same time, my Beta would be driven outside the perimeters of Absalom and to the hotel we booked for him.

I could tell Iris was nervous, and I couldn’t blame her. No one was smiling at us—from the security that met us to the driver of the limousine that was taking us to the manor.
