PARTE ONE: THE LOVE OF A MOTHER

PART ONE: THE LOVE OF A MOTHER

CHAPTER SEVEN

How had been the life of the woman who was kicked out of home by her own husband? How had been the life of a woman who for an instant didn't have anything but learned to cherish the little things and opportunities life gave her? She had her son, she was happy as long as her baby was with her.

Of course she didn't intend to get back to her house, take her place in that family and take revenge of everyone who made her so miserable. She just wanted to live a peaceful life, she just wanted to be with her son forever.

It had been some months since she learned to live by herself, she learned to fight for putting a roof above her head and her son's, of course. Nothing was as simple as everyone from outside could see. Many times she had to see the cruelty of people. She couldn't believe how it was possible people with black holes instead of a heart live in the same world where genuine people lived.

How many times did she need a friendly hand? How many times did she need someone's shoulder to cry on? No one knew but herself. But the most incredible part in the story is when we start explaining about her life, about how her heart never changed even though al she had to get through. She was still being genuinely and passionate to offer her help whoever needed it. That was how Daniel arrived to their home.

Two months ago many things changed in that little space she rented and where just inmigrant workers lived not to be found. The building was old and kinda dangerous, people who robbed living there, people who was always not in mood, people who believe themselves to be the victims there, people who just didn't see life as a gift instead, they saw life as a painful punishment they had to pass in order to receive the paradise.

Paying rent was not always as easy as Rebecca thought, there were two months in a row that hadn't been paid and Rebecca, knowing very well the landlord and his ways to make people pay, she thought that night she was all worried to have to spend the night for the last time there was going to be the last one, a miracle came to her.

She was never going to forget that night.

Mom, why are you crying?” Rebecca's son asked coming closer to her.

Rebecca, who had her head down and their hands in her ears like she didn't want to hear anything else, raised her head a little. Her eyes puffy eyes caught the worry gesture of her son. The little Rud was sick worried because of his mother and the worst thing, he was too young to understand and even help her.

“Mom, don't be sad!" Rud said taking his mom's hands between his.

Little by little, Rebecca smiled again. If it wasn't for her son, she had given up on her own life since the first moment she faced the real world.

“Why don't you prepare your things?” Rebecca asked while her heart fell apart.

That was going to be the last night there. She had less than 24 hours to get a new affordable place. No matter how much she had worked, no matter how many extra hours she had worked, everything was not always enough.

“Why, mommy? Why do have to prepare my things?" Asked the little boy after having heard his mom saying that countless times.

“Please, my son, don't ask me anything else, just do what I'm asking you to do. Prepare the only things we bought here, okay?"

“Just my clothes, my notebooks and my three dolls?"

“Yes, my love, just those things. The remaining is not ours."

Rud was a very smart boy to even ask why. The answer was in front of him. They had to leave the place.

With no more words from his mom, Rud turned around to take his backpacks and put in everything his mom asked.

Until when Rebecca find out she was not going to resolve any of her problems with tears? As soon as Rebecca knew there was no time to cry over her own grave, she got up from the old bed where she slept with her son and went to take her luggage. She had to leave the space before the landlord visited her again.

And exactly as a miracle, the wooden door was knocked. Rebecca saw her son, it couldn't be the landlord when he had just visited her around thirty minutes ago.

Wiping away tears in her eyes, she went to the door. What was said was said, what else could she be afraid of?

But luckily, the person knocking the door was neither the landlord nor the men who were going to kick her them out with all her things.

“May I help you?” Rebecca asked to the man in front of her.

All Rebecca's eyes were witnesses of was the divine male figure in front of her. A man wearing a black shirt, dark blue jeans, his short and dark brown hair called Rebecca's attention. She had never seen that man over there. He has to be a new tenant, a new immigrant worker who arrived there with the hope to get all the money just the most successful men had in that world.

But the question there was; what the hell was he doing in front of her?

The man didn’t say anything, he just looked at her. He had never seen her there. Well, the truth was it hadn’t been so much time since he arrived there.

“May I help you?” continued Rebecca asking.

The man looked around. “Yes, yes, you can. The landlord said I could live here, I didn’t know if he meant to say with you or there’s another space for me.” The man said trying to look inside the space.

All Rebecca could think of the landlord had already occupied that space since she was not going to be there by the next morning. Of course, her heart couldn’t be more broken.

“No, I think this space is going to be just yours but not now, tomorrow. Okay?” Rebecca said, while trying to close the door.

The man didn’t know what she was going through at that moment but something was clear, her puffy eyes told him she was not okay. Not at that moment.

“Wait, wait up!” Daniel claimed, forcing her to open the door again.

“What? I already told you tomorrow the space is going to be completely yours!”

“I don’t know what you understood but the man said I was going to live with you. I don’t know why you’re saying you’re going to leave this place but…”

At that moment Rebecca opened the door again. She couldn’t understand any word the man was saying. But of course, there was a way to find out what was going on there.

“Wait here!” Rebecca said, getting out of there to look for the landlord.

She didn’t want to get false hope, she had to clear what was happening there.

And that was the beginning of the dream, the beginning of the protection that man could offer them.

When they were ready to go, Rebecca took her son’s backpack and then, she and her son said goodbye to the man who was already taking his clothes to go to work to the factory around there.

“See you, Daniel!” The little Rud said.

“See you later!” Rebecca continued while they got out of the tiny and old apartment.

And that was how they day started. Each of them walking theirs paths to their destiny.
