CHAPTER SIXTEEN

{MIA}

I softly murmured "Corvan" under my breath as I hurried to his side, careful not to cause him any more discomfort. Glancing over my shoulder, I noticed the attending nurse, an ironic twist of fate given her vampiric nature, casting a curious gaze my way. "Hey," Corvan greeted with a noticeable effort, his voice laden with the weight of his condition.

My concern spilled out in a torrent of questions, "How are you holding up? I mean, I know it's a cliché thing to ask, but seriously, what happened? How did you end up like this?" I couldn't help but express my confusion and worry in a flurry of words.

Corvan managed a strained chuckle, "It's a complicated tale, and as you can probably tell, I'm not exactly in the best shape to narrate it right now."
