AVA’S POV.
“Hey, over here,” my best friend yelled while waving her hands excitedly. I smiled and happily made my way to her, giving her a long warm hug. “I’m so glad we get to spend our senior year together,” she squeaked, hugging me again. “I can’t believe it,” I said happily, looking around the prestigious Red Crescent Academy. If I was ever asked to mention a time when I believed dreams do come true, this would be it. I know most people dread being back in school, especially on the first day. Truth is, I haven’t been in one for ages, and if given the chance, I would rather be wrapped up in my blanket watching my favourite TV show than enduring those long, tedious hours in the classroom. But this time was different. This was Red Crescent Academy, for crying out loud. Red Crescent Academy was the best school in the whole pack, attracting the elite from affluent backgrounds. And being a human and the child of a poor single mother struggling to pay bills, my dream of attending here was close to nonexistent. Most students here had grown up around pack traditions and rules while I had only heard stories from the outside looking in. But here I was, standing in front of this great institution, all thanks to my sweet mother who saved every penny to grant me this experience. It may not seem like a lot to most people, but it meant the world to me. “Come, let me take you to your classroom,” Lisa insisted, grasping my hand and pulling me along with her. As we turned left, a moving brick wall crashed into me, sending me sprawling to the ground. The wall of a person continued walking without an apology. “What the hell, man?” I asked loudly. The few people in the hallway turned in my direction. “A simple apology could go a long way.” My last statement caused the brick wall to stop. I rose from the ground, glaring at the person, refusing to yield as my best friend tried to pull me away. I would not allow this person to treat me like I was nothing. When he finally turned, his captivating eyes caught me off guard, casting a strange spell over me. Despite his annoyed expression, my confidence began to falter. There was something unnerving about the intensity of his stare, almost too sharp, too aware. “What did you just say?” His voice was low and husky. I swallowed hard, attempting to find my words. “I… I would appreciate it if you offered an apology instead of just walking past after knocking me to the ground.” “Are you implying that it is my fault that you were standing in my way?” he asked challengingly, raising an eyebrow. “That’s not what she meant. She would not stand in your way again,” Lisa intervened, pinching my arm hard. “We apologize. Ava is new here.” “I will let it pass this time, but teach your friend some manners. I won’t be so forgiving next time,” he warned before striding away. Once he was at a safe distance, Lisa forcefully pulled me into an empty classroom. “What was that all about?” I asked. “It’s you trying to get us in trouble. Do you even know who he is?” Lisa asked, crossing her arms tightly. “I don’t. What does that have to do with anything?” I asked. She rolled her eyes. “Obviously, you don’t. If you did, you would know not to mess with Dante .” “He was the one who bumped into me. Don’t act like you didn’t see that,” I frowned, defending myself. “I know. But that guy is part of the Golden Boys, and if you want to have a nice time here, I suggest you avoid them,” Lisa explained. “Golden Boys? What are you talking about? Is this some sort of cult?” “Apparently, you, my friend, know nothing about the werewolf world,” Lisa said, pulling out her phone. The Golden Boys, the Alpha’s triplets, were greatly admired and feared by both the students and teachers of this academy. They effortlessly got whatever they wanted and were constantly surrounded by girls. They were every girl’s dream mate. Not mine, though. The rest of the day went relatively well, and I was content. During lunch at the cafeteria, as we carried our trays, Lisa accidentally tripped, sending the contents of her meal crashing onto the same guy I had seen earlier, Dante . The hall, which had formerly been noisy, became so quiet that it was possible to hear the faintest sound of a pin dropping to the ground. Lisa gasped, and I could see the pure panic on her face. The colour drained from her skin, rendering her as pale as a porcelain doll. “I’m so sorry,” Lisa stammered, avoiding eye contact and attempting to wipe the food stain off his clothes with her handkerchief. Dante swiftly caught her hand. “What are you trying to do?” he demanded, his teeth clenched. “I’m so sorry,” Lisa replied softly, still keeping her head lowered. “Sorry? Is that all you’ve got? Do you have any idea how much these clothes you just ruined cost?” he scoffed. “It was a mistake. I did not mean for it to happen. Please, forgive me,” Lisa pleaded, tears welling up in her eyes. “Look at me, peasant,” Dante said coldly, raising her chin to force her to meet his gaze. “What makes you think you deserve my forgiveness?” “I’m so sorry,” Lisa repeated, tears streaming down her face. He sighed before replying, “I will forgive you on one condition. Get up on one of these tables and put on a show worthy of the nightlife.” “Pardon?” Lisa looked taken aback. “I will not repeat myself. I said get on that table and dance for us,” Dante demanded. “But…” Lisa stuttered, mortified. “You wanted my forgiveness, didn’t you? So earn it,” he smirked, clearly pleased with himself. Glancing around, I noticed no one in the room seemed bothered. In fact, they already had their phones out, ready to capture the scene. The casual cruelty in their faces made my stomach twist. Maybe they were used to this kind of thing, but I wasn’t. I could not watch my friend being humiliated and stay silent. “She will not do that,” I yelled.AVA’S POV.I gently wrapped my fingers around my mother’s cold hands,as the heart monitor continued its steady beeping. I sniff back a tear, saying a little prayer to whatever god that could hear me. I was so grateful that Kris had been with me, when I saw my mother’s unconscious body lying in the living room, who knows what would have happened if I had not gotten here in time. She had aged drastically in a matter of minutes, her skin had lost the vibrant colour she once had. The doctor and two nurses came into the room. “Miss Ava,” the doctor began, his voice gentle yet firm, "we need to conduct some further examinations and procedures. It would be best if you stepped out for a moment."I hesitated, reluctant to leave my mother's side even for a moment, but I had to trust the medical team. "Of course, Doctor," I replied. I looked at my mom one last time before stepping out of the room.Outside the room, I found Kris and Collin standing side by side. As soon as they saw me, Colli
KRIS’ POV. I was so glad, I could finally get a chance to talk and apologise to Ava without any of my brothers batting an eye. In their minds, this was all a game but for me, this was just an opportunity to get to know her. There was probably no point in me trying to get her to like me or nurturing my feelings for her because, at the end of it all, there was no way we were ever going to be together. I waited in my car, hoping to see her come out so I could drive her home. I sighted Ava coming down the stairs and my heart raced a million miles per second. Ava looked breathtaking as ever, her red hair was packed in a bun and I wondered how it would look if it was let down and let free. “Hey Ava,” I called out “Would you like a ride,”“No thanks,” Ava responded, barely glancing in my direction. “Please let me take you home,” I pleaded desperately, slowing driving as she walked faster.“I said No,” Ava said, annoyed. “It will be faster if you come with me, I promised to get you ho
AVA’S POV. I sat alone in the cafeteria eating my homemade lunch. I scanned the hall hoping I would see Lisa but she was not in the area. “Is this seat taken ?” Tiana asked in her ever cheerful voice. “It's free,” I answered.Tiana sat down next to me, bringing out her lunch. She took a glance at me. “You brought your own lunch too, I knew we were perfect for each other,” Tiana said giggling. “Yeah I did,” I said, swallowing down my sandwich.“I always hated food that was not properly made by my chef, I have specific dietary needs and I hate having to suffer because someone forgets to do their job well,” she said.“Oh!” I mouthed “It must be tough for you,”“Yes, it is. Do you also have that same issue?” Tiana asked.“Nope, it’s cheaper to bring home cooked food than spending so much money on overpriced lunch here,” I answered honestly. “My bad, I forgot you weren’t so rich,” Tiana said. I felt like I was being punched in the face, I am very aware that Tiana was richer than me
DANTE’S POVI was halfway down the hallway when I heard hurried footsteps behind me.“Lisa, please wait up!”I did not bother turning around. I already knew that voice belong to. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught her weaving through the crowded hallway, chasing after Lisa like her life depended on it. Ava, however, seemed too distracted to notice where she was going because the next second, she slammed straight into me.The impact sent her stumbling backwards.Instinctively I grabbed her waist, pulling her against me before she could hit the floor. My grip tightened automatically. For a second, everything else faded. Her scent slammed into me like a full moon tide, wild and intoxicating enough to knock the air out of my lungs. She smelled strongly of sweetness like a mixture of Vanilla and cinnamon. I inhaled sharply, the addictive scent sinking into my veins like a drug.My wolf stirred violently as if desperate to claim her.Mine.The word echoed in my head once. Then again.
AVA’S POV. I rang the doorbell twice as I nervously waited for Tiana to open the door. I knew Tiana was rich but this house was massive and I wondered if I was in the right address. “Hi, you must be Ava,” greeted a middle aged woman as she opened the door to welcome me inside their home.“Hey… y-yes, I’m Ava,” I stuttered nervously. “You look so stunning; you must be Tiana’s mom,” I added. She chuckled softly. “You are so kind. I’m the chief maid,” she replied with a gentle smile.“Oh,” I mouthed, feeling embarrassed by my assumption. Clearly, no one owns a house like this without having maids. It must be nice to have people to take care of everything for you. As I waited for Tiana , I scanned around the house, her home was well designed and beautiful, nothing like mine. My home was old and always had a new problem, it was so often that I had learnt to do most repairs myself and I find myself wishing I was born wealthy. "Avaaaa!" Tiana screamed excitedly as she ran downstairs t
AVA’S POV.We had just ended our first class when my phone beeped. I picked it up and saw a message from Lisa, my best friend. I read the text.*}}}Ava, it pains me to say this, but I believe it’s best for us to take a break from our friendship. You have always been my closest friend, always defending me, but I have realised I haven’t been there for you when you needed me most. I feel ashamed to call myself your best friend, and I believe you deserve someone who can truly support you.{{{*I read Lisa’s message over and over, puzzled as to why she would send something like that. I texted her back, but she did not respond. Sighing, I pocketed my phone and decided to find her. I headed to her locker, but as soon as she saw me, she closed it and walked away. I called out her name, but she ignored me and quickened her steps.“Lisa,” I called out again, increasing my pace to catch up with her, but she continued walking fast, not even glancing back.“Lisa, please, can we talk?” I pleaded, re
