LOGIN“But Dad I also want to be the CEO, why do you love my sister more than me…why aren’t you after my success?” James cried out bitterly.
“Give me a branch in this company that I can head…I don’t want to be under my sister’s order!!” He continued.
“Do you know the financial status of this company?…Do you know the crisis we have been facing for the past few months?…Do you know all these..Do you?” Mr Howells shouted.
But James remained quiet because sincerely, he had no clue.
“Can you see now!…you only care about the hatred you have for your sister…it has really blinded you to the point that you can’t see ways to help and support the company!” Mr Howells said angrily.
“Dad…pls calm down..I’m sure he doesn’t mean it that way” Susan said softly, trying to make him calm.
“You really disgust me…I really question your existence as my son because you don’t have any of my attributes!” He lamented.
“Don’t you ever bring up this discussion again!…is that clear?” He shouted.
“Yes…yes Dad…I’m sorry sir” James said slowly.
“Good…Susan my dear…I have to attend to some meetings I’ll see you later…you can go back to your duty.” Mr Howells said. “Alright Dad.” Susan replied.
Mr Howells left the conference room, leaving Susan and James staring at each other.
“Are you happy now?…this is what you have always wanted isn’t it?” James asked, frowning.
“James listen…I..” Susan said. “No problem…let’s see how this ends and I promise you will regret this!…mark my word…you’re so evil.” James shouted angrily, making his way to the entrance and shut the door so hard behind him.
“Steve come on now!…what’s your problem with choking women?” Dr Martins said angrily.
“I don’t know Martins… it’s just a crazy fantasy.” Steve muttered.
“What crazy fantasy!…listen, don’t let this repeat itself again!!.. you almost killed her!” Dr Martins warned.
“But..she liked it… she was the one saying choke me…choke me…and I had to obey.” Steve answered.
“Choke me..(mimicking him)..and you wanna kill someone’s daughter?…what if she died..huh?” Dr Martins asked.
“Forget it bro!…at least she’s okay now.” Steve replied. “Don’t lecture me now… we’re both beds of the same feathers.” Steve continued, laughing.
“Listen..quite alright..yeah..I have girlfriends, but I don’t choke them.” Dr Martins said in his defense.
“How is she doing now…can I see her?” Steve asked curiously.
“Yeah…but she needs rest, you can check up on her later.” Dr Martins replied.
“But guy, you need to fill me in…on how you guys met.” Dr Martins asked curiously.
“Lol…bro that’s another discussion some other time..let me check on her real quick.” Steve said, heading towards the patient’s ward.
Steve pushed the door slowly, trying not to make any disturbances but didn’t know she was already awake.
“Hey…you’re awake?” Steve said, feeling startled. “Yeah…what happened last night.” She asked, looking confused.
“Huh…yeah..we..we had a thing….like a one night stand..something like that.” Steve replied, stuttering.
“Something…like that?” She asked again, trying to suppress her laughter.
“Alright…yeah we had a one night stand.” Steve said boldly, raising his hand in defeat.
“You’re married?” She asked as she noticed the ring on his finger.
“Yeah…I am.” Steve replied. “I guess…you don’t have a happy home right?” She asked.
“Yeah…I apologize for the way I went off you last night, honestly I just couldn’t control myself.” Steve muttered sadly.
“It’s fine…at least I enjoy it…you’re so good in bed!” She exclaimed.
“What the hell….” Steve said to himself. “You nearly died last night…and you aren’t even bothered!” Steve said in disbelief.
“Well.. I’m not dead.. so cut the crap.” She said blatantly. “Seeing your face clearly now…I know you, you’re MR STEVE PARKER, the CEO of RUSEL LTD.” She added.
“Well, now that you know my name, I would like to know yours too?” Steve asked.
“My name is Lucy.” She said, “Why do you work in the club…if I may ask?” Steve asked.
“It’s…a long story.” Lucy said sadly. “It’s okay I understand…I should let you get some rest…and here’s my business card, you can call me anytime you need my help.” Steve said.
“By the way…I had a good time with you last night..thank you.” Steve added.
“I did as well…you can count on me if you need my services again.” Lucy said, smiling as she collected his business card.
“Take care..let me know when you’re discharged so I can come pick you up?” He said.
“Okay…thanks, bye.” Lucy said, watching him exit the room.
Later that day, Steve went back home, feeling so tired. Luckily, Susan was not at home yet.
“Urgh….today was so stressful!” Steve said while coming out of the bathroom and changing into a simple polo shirt and shorts.
He tossed himself onto his bed as he slowly drifted away into his sleep.
Susan walked into the house and was greeted by her maid; Kim. “Welcome ma!” Kim greeted her.
“Yeah…thanks…wait!…is my husband back home?” Susan asked, feeling so sad her husband hadn't come home since last night.
“He’s at home ma…he came home this afternoon and has been in his room since then.” Kim answered.
“Oh thank God…i guess I didn't see his car parked in the compound.” Susan thought to herself.
“Alright, you can go now.” Susan said as she dismissed her maid.
“Hold on….what about my son, is he back from school?” Susan asked.
“Yes ma. He's in his room taking a nap.” Kim answered. “Alright.” Susan said as she headed upstairs to go check up on her husband.
“Baby…” Susan called out, knocking on his door. “Baby?..” she called again, no response.
“Baby?..” she called out this time, pushing the knob and letting herself into his room.
She found him sleeping on the bed. “Oh goodness…thank God he's finally home. She said.
She moved close to him and covered him well with his duvet before she finally placed a kiss on his forehead, gave him a light peck on his lips.
Steve stirred in his sleep. Susan jumped up in shock. “Oh…shit!” she cursed.
A year later Susan felt that she had rebuilt her life. She had dedicated herself to her work at Lobby Steels and expanded the company into new markets, doubling its profits. She had hired a therapist to deal with the feelings of betrayal and abandonment. Susan had even gotten back to dating, with a new sense of self-worth.She had become an ambassador for victims of domestic violence, who spoke up for their lives to let others know what they were going through and that they were not alone. Her life was going well and she was getting more love letters everyday.Except for one thing, she couldn't forgive Steve. She had walked up to him once to confront him on why he did what he did and completely destroyed her life. He said that he was weak, selfish and his biggest mistake was ever falling in love with her."I'm sorry, Susan," he said, tears streaming down his face, "I'm so, so sorry."But forgiveness was not in Susan's cards, and she walked away from him to serve his prison sentence ju
The news came out the next morning, when Steve Parker, who is a well-known businessman and the husband of Susan Parker, chief executive officer of Lobby Steels, was arrested for the murder of Tanya Williams. The media surrounded their home just as vultures do, forcing cameras and microphones into Susan's face as she tried to protect her son from the disorder.Didn't you know that your husband was having an affair, Mrs. Parker?"Mrs. Parker, do you think he's guilty?"What's it like to be married to a murderer, Mrs. Parker?Susan said nothing; her face was pale and worn. She got Michael into the car and drove to her parents' house, since she knew that is where she would be safe.Eleanor Howell, her mother, was at the door and her face showed concern. "Oh, Susan, come here."Susan sank into her mother's arms and began to cry. "I didn't know, mother, I really didn't know."We know, my dearest. We know.George Howell was standing in the doorway with a serious look on his face. "What do yo
Chapter 3: The UnravelingThe room where they questioned him was cold and clinical, the complete opposite of the luxurious way of life that Steve had got used to. Sitting opposite the two detectives was his lawyer, a man called Richard Hayes who had been the Parker family's attorney for many years."Let us start at the beginning, Mr. Parker," said Detective Morrison as he leaned back in his chair. "What were you doing on the night of the 15th?"Steve had a hard time swallowing and said, "I was at Club Inferno, a strip club.""Alone?""No. With a friend.""Which friend?"Steve paused. "Martin, Martin Davis, he's my best friend."The detectives looked at each other. "We've already talked to Mr. Davis; he says he wasn't with you that night."Steve's blood turned cold when Martin threw him under the bus."At that time I was alone," Steve said, speaking almost in a whisper. "I went there by myself."What took place at Club Inferno?Steve took a deep breath and said, "I had a few drinks and
Steve's hands shook as he looked for a pulse. There was none; the woman who a moment before had been full of life now lay still under him, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. No, no, no, no," he whispered anxiously and got off the bed. "Get up! Please get up!"He shook her by the shoulders, but all that happened was that her head leaned to one side. The handcuffs rattled against the headboard, teasing him.Steve's mind sped up. He was a married man, a father, and a respected businessman. And now... a murderer.Think, Steve, think! He sped up and removed the cuffs from her wrists, his fingers having to fumble with the mechanism. Her arms then dropped loosely to her sides. He checked her pulse once more, putting two fingers on her neck and on her wrist, hoping desperately that he would feel something—anything.Nothing.Oh God, he breathed, stepping back from the bed. Oh God, what have I done? His clothes were spread out over the floor. He put on his clothes quickly, his hands shaki
The evening air in the servants quarters was filled with the smell of jollof rice and fried plantain. Daniel, a man with a face watched his wife Natasha hum as she stirred the pot. Their small room was not big. It was full of laughter and warmth."A penny for your thoughts my love " Natasha said, not turning from the stove.Daniel. Ran a hand over his chin. "I saw Mr. David today. He came home with a car for Mrs. Mercy but he did not even look at her. She was standing by the window watching him. She looked small like a bird in a cage."Natasha turned, her eyes soft. "It is sad to have much and yet have nothing. Their house is full of things. It is empty of love."Daniel and Natasha were different from the couple in the house. Daniel could make Natasha feel like a queen with a flower. He held her hand when they walked and listened to her stories. They did not have much. They had each other."I wish we could help them " Daniel said. "The way they look at each other is the way my father
“Yeah…bring it on!” Steve shouted in excitement. They took the first shot, Steve felt a rush of serotonin down his system. The taste was a feeling he couldn’t comprehend, he wondered where the drink was brought from. “Heaven…perhaps” He chuckled in his mind.He was sure that even his best friend; Martins, had never tasted such before. He swore to himself to bring him here one day to taste out of the goodness of this cocktail.Later, it felt a bit bitter, squeezing a lemon juice inside his mouth after the shot. But he dared not give a weird look so as not to offend the stripper. He copied every style she made while taking the shots, trying to match her pace.Soon, they were on the sixth round, as they were both giggling and smiling with each other, not caring about the distractions they were causing. They got to the seventh round, and the stripper was too tipsy. Steve also was tipsy but didn’t want to acknowledge it because he wanted to prove his strength to her as a man.“Alright you
On a sunny bright afternoon, Susan had just finished her conference meeting with the company’s board of directors. “oh goodness I’m so tired” she said while yawning. She glanced at her wrist watch and noticed it’s her lunch time, she jolted up at once. “ I need to get some food, I can’t miss my lu

Steve felt so frustrated as he walked out of his apartment, wanting to cool his temper.“Damn it!” He shouted angrily. “I need to clear my head, why is she frustrating me so badly…why?” He shouted again, throwing a punch in the air.“I need to leave here now before I do something dangerous” Steve c
