LOGINMaverick povThe knock on the door followed by York's voice causes me to freeze. MacKenzie and I had shared our stories with Liberty’s parents and brother. Liberty told them we were mates. The look in her eyes as she talked about us made me feel loved and pride for my mate pulsed through my entire body. Her father listened to all three of us without judgement. Sure he asked questions and I could see Liberty’s parents and brother were upset that she hadn’t told them earlier that we were mates. Through the bond I felt how much it pained her to have to keep it a secret. MacKenzie’s story was painful to hear. I don’t know why I was so naive about Hartley's ways. I think I just wanted to believe that he would only bed the girls who threw themselves at him. Besides that it is frowned upon to sleep with someone who’s not your mate. Now is the moment where Harrison's loyalty will be tested. Will he hide us? Will he protect us or will he hand us over to York? I’m not worried for myself but
Liberty povIt’s strange sitting in my parents kitchen with my mate. A million times I fantasized about finding my mate and introducing him to my parents. In my previous life they were present when I found Hartley. With the knowledge I have now I wonder if they were happy for me but also worried. Hartley’s reputation was never good. Did they pray for him to change his ways for me? Have they always seen him for who he was? Was that why Hartley decided to set them up? or did it run deeper? Or did he hate Dad even before I was his mate? Just because Dad is loyal to the King but puts justice and righteousness before his loyalty towards the King?Though I have to admit that Dad did put all his virtues and principles about honesty and playing by the rules aside when it came to me. He wanted to give me what I wanted so badly that he set everything aside to make sure his little girl was happy. Looking back I also think him spoiling me in every way possible made me the complacent spoiled enti
LibertyMaverick and I look each other in the eyes. I see the same worry and fear in his eyes that I feel. The three of us are defenceless if Hartley and a handful of warriors walk in here. “Do you know if they were following you?” I ask MacKenzie, carefully watching her expression. As much as I want to believe that MacKenzie is innocent and that she’s not here to betray us or lure us out there’s some odd things. There’s booby traps, it’s not impossible for her to have found her way to us without setting one off but as she’s untrained when it comes to tracking. A part of me doesn’t believe that she made it through by herself. “I just ran. I didn’t look or think honestly. I just hoped that I would make it to the rogues and that they would not be as cruel to me as the prison guards would be,” basically reiterating her earlier words. “If we stay here we’re sitting ducks for Hartley and his men. If we try to get to Howling Moon we at least have a fighting chance,” Maverick thinks out
Liberty povA few days after Edwin left Claude returned to take the rogues who wanted to either join his pack or hide there until things were settled between Maverick and his father. Cassius decided to join Claude, not trusting King Truett to not kill him. Those who planned on staying changed their mind when they saw that most of their mates were leaving. Rover hesitated but Maverick told him it was better for him to leave with the others. After hugging everyone and wishing them a safe journey Maverick and I are alone. For the first time ever there is no one but him and me. It’s eerily quiet with only the two of us here. No one is standing guard. No one is cooking. No conversations or laughter. The uncertainty of when Dad is going to be here to take us to King Truett eats away at us.“We might as well enjoy ourselves,” Maverick softly whispers in my ear as he hugs me from behind. “What do you mean?” I answer him, keeping my voice down as well. It feels wrong to speak at a normal vo
Hartley povAfter processing the rumour about Maverick being alive and Liberty having run off to be with him I informed my parents. That went as I expected, Father looked elated and hopeful Mother looked irritated. The eyeroll she gave my father when he immediately started planning on how to find Maverick and Liberty was epic. It efficiently conveyed her irritation, disdain and fatigue with the situation. With a frustrated sigh Mother removes herself from Fathers office slamming the door behind her. I decide to stay here instead of following her. Fathers eyes glaze over indicating he is mindlinking. I hang around to see what happens. When his eyes clear he looks at me. On his face is a happy smile. A sharp pain pangs through my heart, Father has never looked this happy. This smile is because Maverick might be alive. A knock sounds on the office door before it opens. Beta Xander and his shadow York enter. Both acknowledge me with a curt nod. “Go and comfort your Mother Hartley,” Fa
Liberty povClaude left upon our return from the meeting with Morgan. Promising to inform Dad about my whereabouts and giving Madeline the choice is she wants to stay in his pack or return to Howling Moon. It’s been three weeks since Morgan promised to spread rumours about Maverick being alive. I’m nervous, restless. I don’t know what I expected but I expected something, not nothing. I’d expected King Truett to send scouts into our forest to check whether or not Maverick is with the rogues. I’d expected Dad to somehow send me a message or to send someone to check on me but nothing. I’ve considered asking Cassius if he could send someone to Howling Moon with a note to ask Dad how they’re holding up. Never had I expected that being a rogue is so monotonous. Training, gathering food, standing guard and milling about until there’s something to do. Plenty of passers by to watch. Some walk in human form, others running in wolf or lycan form. Single passers or small groups. All of them
