EMBER’S POV

I reach deep into my mind, past Knox, past Gale, past a great many memories, and I find something that brings a familiar ache back to my chest. I force my voice to remain steady when I speak.

“I wager a grey afternoon with clouds gathered, and rain on the hot pavement. I was ten years old in a blue dress. The first time I’d ever worn a dress that pretty.”

The scale glows bright, but does not move yet.

Across the table, my mother watches it carefully, and I can see her doing the math

Seriously? If you've spent 2 weeks on this book, you HAD to have seen that it was being updated almost daily (you know, the little blue box that says "UPDATED" on the bottom right hand of the book cover), which means it's obviously not completed yet. Smh...

Thank you author. It’s always bitter sweet when it’s over. I hope things will be tied up with Rayana, Hale, Nathaniel and Queenie, Rafael, Logan, and Elder James. And most of all Ember/Sapphire and Knox/Phantom.

Oh, and Maurice...Will he finally kick the drinking habit for good and become part of their lives as well? What about Queenie? Will she be able to move on from Nathaniel and find love again? How is Nathaniel going to get her to forgive him to move on while he's incarcerated for the rest of HIS life?

  • TRADING MY CHEATING HUSBAND FOR THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER 393: THE NIGHT OF THE AMBER EYE

EMBER’S POVI blink up at him, entirely disoriented. I swipe a stray tear from my cheek, staring at the moisture on my fingertips in pure confusion.I try to recall what I just asked to forget. I reach into my mind, searching for the reason my face is wet, trying to grasp the edges of whatever just happened.Nothing.There is just a blank, smooth wall in my head. The images are gone. The words are gone. All that is left is an ache in the centre of my chest that I can no longer explain.“I’m fine,” I whisper, my voice shaky but solidifying as the fog clears. I gently pull Knox’s hands from my face, giving him a tight nod. “At least, I will be. Once she gives me the truth I just paid for.”I turn straight ahead, meeting Devika’s waiting, exhausted eyes.Something soft pours into her features, something dreamy and terrible, and for a breath the years fall off her, and she is not the woman who sold me to a monster. She’s a girl I have never met.“It all began,” she says, eyes drifting up

  • TRADING MY CHEATING HUSBAND FOR THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER 392: WAGER ACCEPTED

EMBER’S POVThe air is punched right out of my lungs.A sharp, needling pain flares in my chest, but this time, it isn’t for me. My eyes dart to Silas. His massive chest heaves, his jaw grinding so hard as he stares bitterly at his sister. Slowly, he swallows the hurt, lowers himself back into his chair, and deliberately avoids my gaze.My heart aches for him.I am used to weathering her savagery. I stopped hoping for a sliver of maternal warmth a long, long time ago.Devika is exactly what she claims to be: an unrepentant, insufferable monster. And the only thing she has ever considered a mistake is my existence.Well, if I am her only regret, she is going to tell me exactly why. Right here.I turn back to the table. Under the black wood, Knox’s large hand finds mine, his thumb pressing hard into my knuckles.I steal a glance at his reassuring grey eyes, taking the strength he offers, before I lock onto my mother once more.“You’re a real piece of shit, Devika. Such a colossal piece

The first time I’d ever worn a dress that pretty.”The scale glows bright, but does not move yet.Across the table, my mother watches it carefully, and I can see her doing the math she’s done her whole life, weighing what my truth is worth against what it costs her to bury it.Her chin comes up.She’s going to block me.“I wager my first designer dress,” my mother says, her voice hard and defensive. “The exact moment I put it on in the dressing room, and felt more alive than I had in years.”I almost smile to myself. She took the bait.I had disguised my own wager to sound like a simple, innocent memory of waiting on the porch in a pretty dress. But the house must know th

  • TRADING MY CHEATING HUSBAND FOR THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER 390: ASKER AND DEFENDER

EMBER’S POVThe scale wakes up between us. Cold light spreads across the black table like living ice, and I feel it reaching for me.I suddenly think of the man I saw earlier on my tour. His eyes had clouded completely white, and a sick feeling drops into my stomach as I finally understand. He had wagered his memories, and the house had collected.A sharp, insistent prick drills into my head, hungry invisible fingers clawing into the deepest part of my mind, scraping the corners before they find a thread and pull brutally. The tug forces a gasp out of me, and nausea rolls up right behind it.Knox is already moving. His hand catches my jaw and turns my face up to his, grey eyes blown wide.“Ember. Is it too much?” He doesn’t wait for my answer. His glare snaps to Silas. “You didn’t say it would hurt her. What is that thing doing to her?”“I’m fine.” I try to hand him a small reassuring smile, but his jaw stays set, his eyes hard with fury and pure concern.Silas leans back in his chair

  • TRADING MY CHEATING HUSBAND FOR THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER 389: GAMBLING FOR TWO

EMBER’S POVHe crosses to his sister, slow and enormous, and he leans down until his scarred face is inches from hers, and when he speaks it’s soft, and it’s the most frightening thing I’ve heard all night.“You’ll tell her.” His dark eyes bore into her. “You’ll tell her every last thing she wants to know. Because if you don’t, sister — if you sit there and spite a girl who’s done nothing but be born to you — then you and I are finished, do you understand me? Finished for good.” His voice drops lower. “I will strip your silks. I will empty your rooms. I will put you out of this mountain with the clothes on your back and nothing else, and I will tell every rogue on this continent that Devika Black is dead to the Black line, and you will spend the rest of your miserable grasping life with no name, no house, no floor, and no family — completely, utterly alone. Which is, I think, the one thing in this world you’ve always been most afraid of.” He straightens. “So. Do you tell her willingly

  • TRADING MY CHEATING HUSBAND FOR THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER 388: WE CAME FOR THE TRUTH

EMBER’S POVAnd I stare at him, this enormous, scarred rogue who eats crème caramel and threatens kings, and I feel something rip open in my chest, because I know that.I know that feeling in my bones. I spent years trying to go back to a mother who threw me away because the alternative was having no one at all.“I’m sorry,” Silas says.I blink. “What?”“For how she’s used you.” His dark eyes hold mine, and there’s so much depth in them. “I don’t know the whole of it yet. But I know my sister, and I heard what you said about slapping her, and I know it was ugly, and I know she must have deserved it.” His jaw tightens. “No blood of the Black line deserves to be handled like that. Not by anyone, and least of all by one of our own. You are not a thief’s mistake, girl, whatever she’s let you believe. You are family. And in this mountain, that word still means something, even if it stopped meaning anything to her.”And I don’t have words. I have blood on my face and an uncle I met four min

KNOX’S POVHe blinks, the picture of innocence. “I’m not sure I understand. I explained the purpose quite clearly at the beginning of the evening. Conflict resolution. Closure. An opportunity for all parties to—”“Bullshit.”The word is deadpan, and I see Logan’s head snap up, see Gale’s sobbing st

EMBER’S POVWhen I step outside the girls’ cabin with Rayana and Queenie flanking me, Rayana is mid-monologue about the caribou she’s planning to devour at dinner — something about sinking her teeth into tender, perfectly seared meat that borders on orgasmic — and I’m half-listening, half-scanning
