CHAPTER 0003

Scarlett

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My fiancè was with another woman. I was about to get out of the car and go confront him immediately but something in me just made me wait.

Daniel pulled Rhea inside the hotel and I got out of my car to follow them behind. I couldn't believe how they were smiling and holding hands with love.

Daniel opened the door for Rhea and then walked in behind her. I could feel my tears coming but the anger I was feeling in that moment wouldn't let me cry.

I gathered the courage and walked straight into the room Daniel had just entered with Rhea. What my eyes met was the last thing I ever expected from Daniel Cross.

He was lying on that bed with his hand on Rhea's hips as she kissed him.

“You're driving me crazy Rhea," Daniel said while I wondered how they didn't even see me standing there.

“I'm all yours, Daddy," Rhea replied before she looked back quickly. Daniel asked, “What's wrong?" when she stopped.

Daniel then looked at the door only to realize that I was standing there watching him do all the things he had not been doing to me for another woman.

“Scarlett," he said, his voice filled with shock while Rhea slowly got off him.

“I see you're having a great time at the office huh?" I said with a confident smile.

"No…no, this isn't what you think, baby. I can explain we were just—”

“I'm sorry for disturbing you guys. Can you continue?" I said, closing the door in his face before he could get to me.

My chest felt tight as I made my way to the lift. I didn't even know which floor it was taking me to. All kinds of thoughts came into my mind but disbelief was something I wasn't going to face.

The lift opened and I was luckily on the first floor. I quickly ran out of the lift and made my way to the parking lot. I got into my car and began to drive home.

The moment the car stopped I got out and rushed inside the penthouse. The maid asked if Daniel would be coming home for dinner but I told her to leave everything.

I ascended the stairs and just as I reached our room Daniel was calling my name from downstairs. I locked the bedroom and took a seat on our bed.

I've been so ignorant about everything but it all made sense now. Daniel had been cheating and I was overlooking it all. I thought I could trust him but he turned out to be a beast too.

“Scarlett, I know you're in. Please open the door, I can explain," he said from outside, but how could one even explain cheating?

“Babe, please open the door. I'm sorry, OK," he said, and that just made me want to slap the daylights out of him.

I had had enough of his knocking, so I opened the door when he almost held my hand, but I asked him not to dare.

“How long has this been going on?" I asked, looking dead in his eyes.

“What? No baby it's not like that I was just trying to—”

“Daniel Cross answer my damn questions? How long?" I asked my tone seriously.

"Not…not so long. We were just hanging out Scarlett it's—”

"Not what I think it is?” I cut him off with a pained smile on my face.

“Scarlett please. I'm sorry we…we can work this out. You know I love you right?” he said.

“Work it out? Daniel, are you listening to yourself right now? I've told you to stay away from that woman countless times. Ever since you had that charity event together, I've been complaining about how you changed, and all you said was that it was work stress, Daniel, but guess what?" I said before adding, “It was never that. You were busy having the best time with another woman while I spent sleepless nights polishing your presentations and proposals, Daniel."

"No, babe, please hear me out. I've really been working. Rhea and I are just business partners OK.”

“I'm anything but stupid, Daniel. I know what I saw, heard, and read OK. You made a fool out of me Daniel.”

"Scarlett, what are you saying our wedding is in a few days?”

“You can marry her instead,” I said before he held my hand and fiercely removed it.

“Scarlett, please, it's not like I love him, OK. I was just trying to have fun. It's you that—”

It was at that moment that I realized that I had messed up my life for the wrong man. I spent days and nights making sure everything was perfect on Daniel's side.

Be it his presentation that I had to spend sleepless nights polishing just so nothing would go wrong or the business meetings I had to organize special venues for.

Then it hit my mind. Daniel's back-and-forth meetings in countries that are supposed to be romantic destinations. It all made sense now.

I've been doing the booking for him and Rhea thinking it was his PA that he was accompanying him.

My heart felt like bursting at that moment. I walked out of that room and made my way downstairs without even knowing where I would be driving to.

I was now in my car, a few kilometers away from Zoe's place, when a horrible pain coming from my belly button intensified.

I quickly hit the brakes and managed to get out of the car but the pain was now going down my legs. I could feel them weakening as flashbacks of Daniel and Rhea started playing in my head.

The kissing, the messages, and the voice notes on Daniel's computer. I lowered my body to try to reach for my phone but couldn't as my sight was blurring.

I felt a wet liquid run down my legs before I heard an old woman asking me to hang in there.
