INICIAR SESIÓNAstrid’s Pov
His eyes met mine, they were sharp, red, and impossible to read. Then, just as suddenly, they closed again. He collapsed back onto the bed, unconscious.
That was my sign to leave.
He probably wouldn’t remember any of it. It might have just been a momentary surge of energy. Either way, we were even now. He had saved me twice, and I had saved him. I couldn’t stay here any longer.
My body protested with every movement, my back burning like it was still under the whip, but I forced myself to slip out of the room. I limped down the hallway, careful not to draw attention. Chaos still filled the corridors — warriors shouting, injured wolves rushing past, unfamiliar faces darting in every direction. I didn’t belong here. I had no one.
Still, I couldn’t bring myself to go far.
I found a shadowed corner not too far from his door and stayed there, watching. I don’t know why. Maybe some part of me needed to know if he would be okay.
Time passed in a blur.
Then the door opened.
Alpha Xavier stepped out.
He looked completely healed. There was no trace of the deep gashes or the blood that had soaked his chest. His steps were strong and sure, like nothing had happened. A faint glow lingered on his neck where my fangs had pierced him. He looked renewed and powerful.
He turned, his gaze sweeping the hallway, and landed directly on me.
I froze.
Oh gods.
My breath caught in my throat. I couldn’t run. My body refused to move. I was still bleeding, weak, and exhausted. He started walking toward me.
One step. Then another.
He was coming straight for me.
I squeezed my eyes shut and braced myself. This was it. He would kill me now for what I had done. My heart hammered so loudly I could barely hear anything else.
But nothing happened.
No growl. No pain. No command.
When I finally dared to open my eyes, I saw his back. He had walked right past me.
I let out a shaky breath, my whole body trembling. Had he not seen me? Or had he chosen to ignore me?
I stayed hidden, watching as he moved with purpose toward the battlefield outside the palace walls. The enemy warriors were still there — rogues and traitors led by a tall, broad-shouldered man with a cruel face.
Xavier carved through them like a storm. His claws sliced through flesh with terrifying precision. Talon fought beside him, swift and brutal. Even some of the lower ranks had joined the fight. But Xavier was unstoppable. He pushed forward until he reached the rogue leader.
Their clash was savage. Growls shook the ground. Blood sprayed. The rogue was strong, but Xavier was stronger, faster, and filled with raw fury. In the end, with one final brutal strike, the rogue alpha fell dead at his feet.
The pack howled in victory.
I couldn’t share their triumph.
My legs gave out beneath me. My vision blurred. I looked down and saw fresh blood seeping through my torn clothes. I had given him too much. Lost too much of my own.
I tried to steady myself, but my fingers had gone numb.
Then everything went black.
****
Soft laughter pulled me back to consciousness.
I heard giggles and quiet conversations before I could even open my eyes. The ache in my bones reminded me I was still alive. I blinked slowly, taking in the dimly lit room. A few servants sat together at the far end, sharing bread and trading stories as if the world hadn’t nearly ended earlier.
I sat up with a groan. My body screamed in protest. Dried blood covered my skin and stuck my gown to my back. I felt pathetic — always fainting, always the weakest one.
One of the servants, Mara, glanced over at me. She wasn’t particularly kind, but she wasn’t the worst either.
“You should get to the hall,” she said flatly. “The Moon Goddess has summoned everyone. Don’t be late if you want to stay alive.”
They all left without waiting for a reply.
I forced myself up on trembling legs, slipped on my worn sandals, and stepped outside. The entire estate felt strangely quiet now. Servants and wolves moved in the same direction, toward the underground cavern. I followed.
The cavern was packed. The Moon Goddess stood at the front, radiant and imposing. Talon, the Beta, stood beside her with a grim expression. I didn’t see Alpha Xavier or Luna Aliyah anywhere. Oh yeah, she left.
My stomach twisted with unease.
The Moon Goddess’s voice rang out, clear and commanding.
“In this kingdom, we are one. United. But when a traitor or an outsider dares to infect us from within… we expose them. And we eliminate them.”
Murmurs rippled through the crowd.
Talon stepped forward. “After examining Alpha Xavier and hearing his account, we have confirmed that a vampire has infiltrated our ranks.”
Gasps and shouts erupted everywhere.
My blood ran cold.
A vampire? Here?
“They are among us,” the Moon Goddess continued. “Everyone will be tested. No one is exempt.”
Panic spread like wildfire. Warriors began grabbing people, forming lines, sniffing and inspecting them one by one.
I tried to slip backward, to disappear into the crowd, but a strong hand suddenly gripped my arm.
I didn’t even have time to scream.
I was dragged through the sea of bodies and shoved into a shadowy corridor. My back hit the stone wall hard.
Alpha Xavier towered over me, his presence overwhelming.
I dropped my gaze instantly, knees shaking.
“Look at me,” he ordered, his voice low and sharp beside my ear.
I slowly lifted my head, terrified but obedient.
He studied me carefully, tilting his head as he examined my face. His expression was unreadable.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
My throat felt tight. “A-Astrid,” I whispered. “My name is Astrid.”
A heavy silence stretched between us.
Then he leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
“I know what you are, Astrid.”
Xavier’s PovI sat at the head of the long table in the dining hall. The room felt quieter than usual. Only Caden and Talon were with me tonight. Aliyah was not here and I knew exactly why. She was still angry about what happened in my chambers. I did not mind her absence. Sometimes her silence was better than her endless questions.Astrid moved around the table like a quiet shadow. She poured wine for me first, then Talon, before she moved to Caden. Her hands were steady but I could see small cuts on her fingers from the dungeon. When she finished she went to stand in the corner. From that distance she could not hear our conversation. Good. I stared at her for a moment longer than I should have. My eyes traced the way my coat still hung on her shoulders even though she had changed her dress.Caden and Talon kept looking at me with intense eyes. I put my cup down and spoke first. “If you guys have something to tell me just say it.”Talon leaned back in his chair and smiled. “What make
Astrid’s PovI stood there in the middle of that dark dungeon for what felt like forever. My legs would not stop shaking. I still could not believe what had just happened. One moment I was sure the mad wolf would tear me apart and eat me alive. The next moment Alpha Xavier appeared like a storm and killed the beast right in front of me. He saw part of my body. He saw my bare breast when my clothes tore. That thought kept coming back even though it should not be the most important thing right now. I was supposed to be dead. Yet I was still breathing.I looked down at the floor. Blood covered my skin and my torn dress. Some of it came from the mad wolf when Alpha Xavier fought him. The big dead body lay a few steps away from me. I did not know what to feel. Should I feel sorry for the creature? Should I feel guilt? I did not know. But one thing was very clear in my mind. If Alpha Xavier had not come when he did I would be the one lying dead on this cold floor. Or maybe something even wo
Xavier’s PovI stormed out of that cursed dungeon, my boots leaving bloody footprints on the cold stone floor. My hands were still dripping with the mad wolf’s thick, dark blood. It coated my fingers, my claws, even my forearms. But the blood wasn’t what had me on edge. It was her.Astrid.The moment I saw her down there, clothes torn, soft pale skin exposed, one full breast nearly spilling out, her chest heaving with terror, her scent flooding the air like sweet wild honey mixed with fear—I lost control. Her breathing was fast and shallow. Her eyes were wide, glistening. And when I covered her with my coat, my fingers had brushed against that warm, bare skin. Just that small touch sent fire racing through my veins straight to my cock. I was rock hard the entire time I slaughtered that beast. I didn’t say a word when Aliyah ordered her to the dungeon. I couldn’t. Showing weakness in front of the pack would have been dangerous. But the second that gate closed behind me, I knew I had t
Astrid’s PovMy heart hammered against my ribs like a caged bird desperate for escape. Aliyah’s words still echoed in my ears—“Take her to the dungeon. Make sure she’s inside. Lock it so she does not head out, and she cleans everywhere properly.” I couldn’t breathe. The mad wolf. *The mad wolf.* I had heard the stories since I came here, whispers around the pack fires about the beast locked away for years, a monster so feral that even the strongest warriors refused to go near his cell. No one visited. No one returned. And now they were sending *me* there.I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. My throat had closed tight. Aliyah tilted her head, her lips curling with false sweetness. “Oh, you want to talk now? You’ve been keeping quiet since your little display of pride. I have a lovable heart, Astrid. I like giving everyone what they deserve. But you…” Her eyes narrowed. “Your pride disgusts me.”I looked at her, waiting, hoping—*praying*—she would change her mind. But she turned
Astrid’s PovDena’s grip on my arm was so tight it felt like she was trying to break it. She dragged me through the corridors like I was a sack of potatoes, walking so fast I kept stumbling to keep up. My heart was still racing from the conversation with Talon, and now this.“You can let go of my hand now,” I said, trying to pull away. “You’re hurting me.”She only squeezed harder and kept dragging me. When we finally reached the courtyard, she suddenly dropped my arm and spun around to face me.“Well, well,” she said with a nasty smile. “May I remind you that you still have chores to finish? But what were you doing with the Beta? I thought he was supposed to punish you. Or are you trying to seduce him too? Opening your legs for him like you do with everyone else?”I stared at her, feeling something hot rise in my chest. “You just open your mouth and say whatever comes out, don’t you? Can’t you ever keep quiet? Your mouth is always itching to say something mean.”Dena’s eyes widened.
Astrid’s PovI kept asking myself the same question over and over as Talon led me through the corridors.*Why do I keep messing everything up?*Mara never made mistakes like this. The other servants seemed to know exactly how to stay invisible and safe. Even Dena, as mean as she was, rarely got punished. So what was wrong with me? Why did trouble follow me everywhere I went?Talon’s grip on my arm was firm but not painful as he guided me toward the private whipping room. It was a small, isolated chamber used for repeat offenders — the kind of place where people were punished quietly so the rest of the castle didn’t have to watch. My stomach twisted with fear. I already knew what was coming. I had seen others dragged here before. When we stepped inside, I moved automatically to the spot where people usually knelt or stood for their punishment. I closed my eyes tightly and waited for the first lash of the whip.It never came. After a few long seconds, I opened my eyes. Talon was just st
Astrid’s PovPlease, please, please stop. Please, I don’t want to die. Please, I beg of you, don’t do this. The voice was mine, but I didn’t recognize it. It came out strangled and broken, trembling with a kind of fear I had never felt before. My own scream echoed back at me, swallowed up by the th
Astrid’s PovAliyah released my hair and threw me to the floor like I was nothing.I hit the cold stone hard, my palms scraping against the ground. Before I could even think about getting up, her foot came down on my hand. Not a kick. A slow, deliberate stomp. I bit down on my lip so hard I tasted
Astrid’s Pov“You.” Aliyah’s voice cut straight through me like a blade. “Stand up. Now.”I scrambled to my feet so fast I nearly knocked the chair over. “I’m so sorry, Luna. The Alpha called me here. I swear, I didn’t come on my own. I would never—”“Relax.” She waved her hand like my words were f
