“Once again, I don’t want to hear any complaints from the head’s office,” I stated firmly during our monthly meeting for the second semester. “To the newly admitted scholars and residents, you are expected to take full responsibility for your duties. Always embody good conduct, integrity, and discipline. I will not tolerate mistakes in your tasks, nor will I accept tardiness, especially during meetings, as some of you did earlier. I don’t want that repeated. Being late is one thing I despise the most.”
I paused, letting my words settle in the room. “We’ve already discussed the rules of this organization, and I expect each of you to follow them without exception.”
As the student president of this academic organization, it’s my responsibility to lead and enforce order among my peers to maintain the welfare of the university. I’ve always been a perfectionist, grounded and disciplined. I’ve been involved in academics since my primary years, and having served as student president over the years, this role is nothing new to me.
“I’m now open for any clarifications or concerns,” I added, sitting on the edge of the table with my arms crossed.
Silence filled the room. No one spoke. They simply stared at me with those familiar, sparkling, attentive expressions.
“I’ll take that as everything being clear,” I continued. “The next meeting schedule will be posted on the bulletin board sometime this week. I’ve been busy preparing for upcoming events, you all know that. If there are no further concerns, this meeting is adjourned.”
“Thank you, Pres.”
“Thank you, Mister President.”
“Thank you, President Crow.”
Their voices overlapped as they began to leave. I returned to my seat at the head of the table, shutting down my laptop and organizing my files. My secretary had been absent for two days due to illness, so I had to handle everything myself. I still needed to finalize documents from today’s meeting to submit to the university’s academic president.
As I sorted through the folders, a group of freshman scholars approached, whispering and giggling among themselves. I frowned at the interruption.
“Hi, Pres,” one of them said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Hi, Pres, we just wanted to ask something,” another added timidly.
“We want to ask if—”
“I thought everything was already clear?” I cut in sharply. “I asked earlier if there were any questions, and none of you spoke up. I don’t tolerate that kind of behavior, especially now that you’re part of this organization.”
They lowered their heads in embarrassment. “I’m sorry.”
“Sorry, Pres.”
“I don’t want this happening again,” I said firmly. “If you had questions, you should have asked earlier. I’m done with my part. Save them for the next meeting. You may leave now.”
Flustered, they quickly walked away.
I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. I couldn’t stand that kind of behavior. If I’ve already asked something once, I don’t repeat myself. They need to learn and take responsibility. Being new isn’t an excuse. There’s no room for incompetence here. This is an academic organization. If they don’t improve, they’ll have to go.
Still, I couldn’t ignore the fact that I might’ve been too harsh. They were freshmen, after all.
I packed my laptop and left the room, heading toward my next class, a minor subject I’d already decided to sleep through.
“He looks so hot, Lian.”
“I know!”
“No, he looks even hotter.”
“He’s more handsome with his glasses. Omo!”
“Geez, I love him so much!”
“I even had a wet dream about him last night.”
My stomach twisted at the last comment. Were they deliberately speaking loud enough for me to hear? It wasn’t the first time I’d heard things like that; some were even worse.
Hands in my pockets, bag slung over my shoulder, I walked down the hallway with a straight face.
The usual followed: whispers, stares, inappropriate comments, shameless admiration from students, and even staff. Locker rooms, hallways, parking lots, restrooms, even outside campus, it didn’t matter. It all disgusted me.
Still, I’d grown used to it over time. Most of the time, I ignored it. I didn’t have the patience to acknowledge them, much less respond. Their presence alone was irritating.
As I turned a corner, I suddenly bumped into someone.
Not an accident. Clearly, it was carelessness.
Clumsy. Reckless. My irritation flared instantly. I tried to steady myself, but the anger simmered beneath the surface.
I hate stupidity.
I looked down at the person I collided with.
A girl.
“I’m very sorry,” she said quickly, making my brows knit together.
She crouched down, hurriedly gathering the things she had dropped. I simply watched. Don’t expect help from me; this isn’t some cliché scene from a movie.
Her head hit my chest earlier, hard. Serves her right.
Once she finished picking everything up, she stood in front of me, head still lowered.
An attention seeker, no doubt. This had to be intentional.
I towered over her, yet I still couldn’t see her face, and I didn’t particularly want to. It would probably just irritate me more.
“Sorry,” she murmured again, rubbing her forehead. Something about her voice made my chest tighten unexpectedly.
Her scent lingered in the air, distracting me. Standing this close made it strangely difficult to even look at her. For a moment, I found myself at a loss for words.
I frowned deeper.
Then she hurried past me.
Only then did I turn to look back at her.
Damn it.
Trevor's POV"Trev..."The shock on Red's face was priceless. She blinked several times before rubbing her eyes as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing."Tell me I'm dreaming."God. I missed her so much.I spread my arms wide and grinned. "Are you just going to stand there staring at me? Where's my hug?"She immediately covered her mouth before rushing toward me. The next thing I knew, she had launched herself into my arms. I laughed and lifted her effortlessly as she wrapped her legs around my waist.Damn. I really missed her."You idiot!" she exclaimed after finally pulling away. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming home?""Because then it wouldn't be a surprise.""You asshole."She smacked my shoulder. "I missed you so much."A smile tugged at my lips. "I know."I pulled her into another hug. "And I missed you, too, babe."The exhaustion from the long flight seemed to disappear instantly.I had gone straight here from the airport. My body had been begging for sleep, but s
Red's POV"Ten!""Nine!""Eight!""Seven!""Six!""Five!""Four!""Three!""Two!""One!""MERRY CHRISTMAS!"The moment midnight struck, colorful fireworks exploded across the night sky.I looked up in awe as brilliant lights scattered above us, painting the darkness with bursts of red, gold, blue, and silver. What a beautiful sight.Holding a sparkler in my hand, I glanced around. My family. They are my world.Dad had an arm wrapped around Mom's waist while she rested comfortably against him. A moment later, they shared a quick kiss, smiling at each other like they had fallen in love yesterday.I couldn't ask for anything more. All I wanted was for them to stay healthy and happy for many more years. They were getting older. And selfishly, I wanted them to stay with me forever.Lost in my thoughts, I suddenly felt an arm slide around my waist."Merry Christmas," Crow whispered against my ear.I turned toward him and smiled."Merry Christmas." I stood on my tiptoes and kissed him.The s
Crow's POVI was completely speechless. That line was supposed to come from me, not her. For once, Red had caught me off guard.Taking a sip of the coffee she had made, I couldn't help but smile.Damn. This was good. The rich aroma of the coffee mixed with the thought that she had prepared it for me made it taste even better. I was starting to think this was becoming my newest addiction, right after Red herself. As I took another sip, I noticed Blue staring at me with his tongue hanging out."Hey, buddy," I said. "Your mommy is being very naughty today."Blue barked before trotting over and tugging at the hem of my jogging pants."Hey, stop that."I placed my mug on the kitchen island and bent down to scoop him into my arms."She's naughty," I continued, scratching behind his ears, "but I love her so much."Blue stared back at me before suddenly licking my cheek.I laughed. "Yeah, I know."After setting him down, I glanced around the house.Several framed photographs decorated the wal
Red's POVI didn't know why my chest ached again. The feeling came out of nowhere, creeping into my heart without warning. No matter how many times I reminded myself to be an understanding girlfriend, it still hurt.‘What about her?’That was the message I sent back to Crow. After that, there was no reply.I stared blankly at the white ceiling above me, my thoughts drifting into endless possibilities. What-ifs and silent wishes wandered through my mind, refusing to leave.A knock suddenly broke the silence.I didn't answer, but the door opened anyway.Dad stepped inside.Propping myself up with one elbow, I leaned against the headboard of my bed.Dad kissed my cheek before sitting beside me."How's my daughter doing?" he asked. For some reason, hearing those words immediately comforted me."I'm fine, Dad." I gave him a small smile."How's school?" he continued. "I haven't been able to check on you much these past few weeks. Are you doing well in your course?""I am.""That's good to h
Crow's POVWith a white towel wrapped around my waist, I rummaged through my locker for something decent to wear on my movie date with Red tonight. After a few minutes, I settled on a plain white V-neck shirt, fitted dark blue jeans, and a pair of white Converse shoes.I had just finished getting ready when my phone suddenly rang.At first, I thought it was Red calling, but when I glanced at the screen, the caller ID read Chloe."Hey! What's up?" I answered."H-hey, b-baby..."The moment I heard her voice, I knew she was drunk. Combined with the loud music and chatter in the background, it was obvious she was at a bar."Chloe? What are you doing?""J-join me here, baby. L-let's drink.""I can't.""W-why?""Are you serious?""I-I am serious, b-baby!""I have a date tonight, Chloe.""Y-you don't have time for me anymore. You're not the Crow I used to know. The Crow I—""Not this again, Chloe.""I hate you!" she yelled. Then a man's voice echoed through the phone."Baby, who's that?""D-
Red's POVI don't think I'll ever get used to watching him play basketball.Today was their last practice before the holiday break. They were preparing for their final game of the season against the University of Bohol this coming March.Even though it was only a practice session, there were still plenty of people gathered in the gym, especially girls who screamed their hearts out as if it were an actual championship game. The coach blew his whistle, signaling the end of practice. As usual, Crow's team won.People slowly began leaving the gymnasium. Holding a white towel and a bottle of water, I smiled as Crow made his way toward me, drenched in sweat. His hair was damp, his jersey soaked, and probably even his boxers.Yet somehow, he still looked ridiculously handsome. My thoughts were becoming dangerous.Without hesitation, he leaned down and stole a quick kiss before taking the bottle from my hand. He emptied the entire liter of cold water in one go."Ahh," he sighed in relief. "Th
