Chapter 1

It’s the last day of school and the end of my sophomore year. I’m in the sitting room, pressing my phone and surfing the net. Nowadays, I seem to enjoy checking out celebrities on I*******m. There is something about it: they’re letting you in on details about their life. I was so engrossed in what I was doing that I didn’t even hear when my mum entered the sitting room.

“Lovette!!” She screamed out my name

“C’mon mum, you scared me, why didn’t you just tap me, I could have gotten a heart attack you know,” I said to my mother.

My mother rolled her eyes at me. “Stop being dramatic, will you? What if a thief entered the house? I’ve told you to always be conscious of your environment.”

Now look who is the dramatic one. How on earth would a thief enter the house. Our neighbourhood is safe and secure. I chuckled and shook my head at her reasoning.

It’s been the two of us since my Father left my mother for a sugar mummy. He claimed he wanted to be the younger one in the relationship and loved older women. My mother was devastated, and she was sad for months. I know that my mother deserves better than a man like that.

My mum is so beautiful that even at 45, she still gets complimented by a lot of people. She has blonde hair with hazel eyes. Her curves were prominent, and in every outfit, she wore bangs. I’m glad I inherited her genes and not my Father’s.

She works at the town hospital as a nurse, and right now, she has just completed her shift and is back home.

“How was school today hun?” she asked me, gently stroking my hair.

“oh, the usual, mum, you should know I don’t enjoy going to school. Whoever invented school just did me bad”, I groaned and sighed deeply.

“You’re such a whiner, well good for you, school ended today, now you can enjoy your school break,” She said as she stood up on her way to the room.

“Yes I’m the happiest person on earth right now,” I said, then I remembered I wanted to ask her something.

“Mum, I would like to go to Harper’s house this break. It’s been so long since I saw them, and I miss them, especially Connor.

The Harper’s are our family friends. They are not humans but werewolves, meaning they are half human, half wolf. They live on the other side of the town, mostly surrounded by woods. Susan and my mum went to the same college and have maintained their friendship since then. I occasionally go to visit them whenever I can. Susan has three boys; Ralph, Lowell, and Connor, With Ralph being the eldest and Connor the youngest.

My mum didn’t even think much about it when I requested that I visit them.

“Sure you can, I will call Susan on the phone and ask what she thinks about it, will do that tonight and let you know tomorrow”. She said as she proceeded to leave the sitting room.

I smiled, knowing that I was always welcome at the Harper’s home, so calling to ask might be pointless. I picked up my phone and clicked on Tiktok, wanting to watch three or four videos.

Well.. that’s what I thought. I ended up spending two hours on it.

********

Grrrrr!! Grrrrrr!! I woke up to the alarm sound blasting out through my phone. I checked the time and saw that it was 6: a.m. Jeez, I was pissed. I wanted to throw my phone away. I quickly put off the alarm and slept back, using the blanket to keep me warm.

But sleep failed me. I kept tossing and turning around on the bed for no cause. It isn’t even school time, and I can’t enjoy my beauty sleep. I blame my phone for that.

Sighing, I lazily got up from the bed and went to the kitchen to make some pancakes. I was humming to one of my fave songs when I heard footsteps. It was my mother. She was dressed and all ready for work.

“Hi, Mum, good morning”, I smiled as I sat in the dining room to eat my food.

“Good morning, hun. I didn’t expect you to be awake now. I expected you to still be under your cover, sleeping as you like since school is over. She said while serving herself some pancakes with a glass of Orange Juice.

“You know me so well”, I chuckled. “But good thing I’m up. You get to eat my yummy pancakes made by the chef herself”, I Joked.

She laughed and rolled her eyes. “Is that pride I see growing on you, your pancakes are yummy doesn’t make you a chef, dear. You hardly make any other food except pancakes.”

Yeah, she was right. I don’t enjoy cooking. I only cook when I feel the need to or am extremely hungry. I was done eating. I took my plate to the kitchen and did the dishes. Then I returned to where my mother was. I needed to ask her if she had called Susan the previous night.

“Mum, did you call Susan, what did she say?” I asked.

“She was so excited, she didn’t even think about it. She said yes immediately”, My mum replied.

“So I have a trip to prepare for then,” I said excitedly.

I’m about to meet the boys again. It’s been two years since I last saw them. I was closer to Connor than the other two boys, so I was eager to see him. I have so much to catch up on since a lot must have happened over their side. Werewolves have more interesting lives than humans.

“Yeah go pack your backs, you’re leaving this weekend,” my mum said while on her way out.

“Also, don’t be too engrossed with that phone of yours that you lose consciousness of yourself, silly. See you soon”, She warned as she finally closed the door.

I groaned. She just had to remind me of that. My mum can be so dramatic. I shrugged, thinking of the task ahead of me. I have a trip to prepare for.
