Chapter 30

Lovette POV

I sat by Ralph’s bedside, tears streaming down my face as I held his hand tightly. “I’m so sorry, Ralph”, I whispered. “This is all my fault. I should have never put you in danger like that. The creature wouldn’t have attacked you if I hadn't been there. You wouldn’t be lying here now, so sick and hurt.”

His injury had worsened and showed no sign of healing. I was worried and scared. If I had known this was going to happen I wouldn’t have suggested we went for a walk.

Ralph reached out and grabbed my hand. “Don’t blame yourself. It’s not your fault. I knew the risks when I decided to save you. I would do it again in a heartbeat to protect you .”

“But you’re getting worse and worse. I can’t stand to see you like this,” I replied, my voice trembling.

“I’ll be fine. I just need some time to heal,” Ralph said, but the effort of speaking seemed to take a lot out of him.
