Chapter 39

Gabriel POV

I sat on the couch, staring blankly at the TV screen. I had been trying to distract myself by watching my favorite show, but I couldn’t focus. My mind kept wandering back to the empty space next to me. I couldn't help but feel deflated that Lovette had left so early.

I tried to shake off the feeling and focus on the movie, but it was no use. I couldn't deny the fact that I was missing her. I didn't want to let it hinder me from doing the normal things I did, but it was hard to ignore the emptiness I felt without her.

As I sat there, lost in my thoughts, the door opened and Neo walked in. Neo could see right away that something was off. "Hey man, what's up?" he asked. "You look like someone just kicked your puppy."

I tried to play it cool. "Nah, I'm fine," I said, forcing a smile. "Just a little tired, that's all."

But Neo wasn't fooled. "Come on, I know you better than that," he said. "Something's bothering you. What happened?"
