Chapter 3

Lovette POV

The day was finally here. I was about to see Connor, my buddy for life. I had on a pink crop top and black high-waist trousers. I styled my hair into a messy ponytail using a polka dot ribbon. My luggage was packed and all set. I bid goodbye to my mum and left for the park. It was a 3-hour trip involving the vehicle stopping at every checkpoint.

Exhausting. Thank goodness I had my phone to keep me company. I was watching TikTok videos back to back.

Alas! I got to the town where the Harper’s lived. I ordered a cab to my main destination. I was feeling all sought of emotions, from excitement to nervousness. I know I shouldn’t be nervous since they are more or less my family, but it’s been 3 good years since I last saw them. I wonder if Ralph and Lowell have changed a lot since the last time.

They must have outgrown some of their habits. Connor and Lowell will have been able to shift into their wolves. I was told Werewolves start shifting on their 16th birthday, and they have crossed that age since. I wonder how big their wolves will be. It’s not like I’ve seen Ralph shift before. He hardly ever does that. Who am I kidding? He hates being a werewolf.

I stood in front of the building and admired the house. From the outside, the house looks posh and extravagant. It has been built with bricks covered in render and has granite decorations. Tall, rounded windows brighten the house and have been added to the house in a fairly symmetrical pattern. The house is surrounded by grass, a huge tree in the centre, and bushes on the plot’s borders.

I pressed the doorbell, and the door opened to two faces grinning at me. It was Connor and Susan. I squealed, and before I knew I was up in the air, Connor tried to lift me up.

“Look who has gotten bigger, I can’t even carry you like I used to”, Connor laughed.

I rolled my eyes at him. He is now taller and has broader shoulders.

“Hello Susan, it’s been a while” I acknowledged Susan’s presence, giving her a kiss on the cheek.

“Yes darling, you look beautiful as always”, she offered to carry my luggage.

I heard footsteps approach us. Looking up to see who it was, I saw it was Ralph. 3 years must have been more than enough time to become sexier. I remember him making fun of my teeth every chance he got. But I got braces later, and fast forward to now, and I have the perfect set of teeth. He looks to be 6” 2 tall now.

I admired him for a second, not caring if he saw me do it. His light green eyes look like they’re piercing into your soul, and he has broad shoulders that look like he has been working out, thick eyebrows and a perfectly trimmed moustache. He was definitely the ladies’ man.

He looked at me and smirked. Yep, he totally saw me checking him out. Wrong I admit. He is like a brother to me. But who was I to pass on the chance to appreciate beauty when I see one. I was shy at the gesture. I tucked a piece of fallen hair behind my ear and gave him a handshake. He rolled his eyes and pulled me into a hug.

“Is Lowell not home?” I glanced around the room, noticing his absence.

“Yeah, he isn’t. He went into town with my dad to get the groceries”, Connor replied. “Against his will, of course, my dad forced him”. He added.

I nodded slowly, taking in all that Connor said and watching Ralph bite off his nails from where he was seated. Gross, I must say.

“You have to tell me all that has happened” Connor grabbed my hands, trying to hurry past his mother up the stairs.

“Not so fast, will you? She must be starved from the trip. Let’s find her something to eat first, you both have weeks to spend together. That is more than enough time”, Susan suggested.

“What would you love to eat, there is this new restaurant in town, do you want to go there and check it out, or we should just order pizza and sit our butt at home” Connor questioned.

“I don’t mind eating pizza”, I replied. I was too exhausted, anyway, to explore the town. I wanted nothing more than to take a short nap. I was led to the room I would be staying in. It was Connor’s room.

The room was opposite Ralph’s, while Lowell’s was beside it. I quickly scanned through the room, and Connor sure didn’t disappoint as a boy, I thought sarcastically. Inside the room were posters of girls and babes on the beach. Some consisted of movie stars. There were clothes on the floor and rumpled bed sheets. Boys would always be boys.

Susan entered the room, and the look on her face was priceless. Oh well, this isn’t going to go well for dear Connor.

“Look how messy your room is, didn’t I tell you to arrange it beforehand” She yelled at Connor.

He lifted his hands up in surrender, stepping backwards. Not like his mother would actually hit him.

“Sorry, Love,” He said with a goofy smile.

“I didn’t fall down, sugar. Just get your ass in here and tidy up your mess”, I replied with a smirk.

Susan glanced at the room once more whilst shaking her head, then slammed the door and left the room.

“Your royal highness, I didn’t think you would mind how the room looked. We used to be buddies remember? We would even eat on rumpled sheets while watching movies on my laptop.”

“What changed? A lot must have changed with you,” he said playfully with the puppy dog eye.

“What did you expect? I am a grown lady. I can’t go around with my room looking messy and untidy.”

“Grow up, Connor, grow up,” I said in a sing-song voice.
