''I'm done with this part of the paper and I think that I need to do a little more research of course,'' I handed the paper to Tristan doing my best to avoid eye contact, ''Maybe you can go through it later and tell me what you think''

He took it from me, gave it a once over and sighed.

"Thank you, Alex,'' he placed it on the table, ''I'll take my time and see what you've come up with''

"Cool''

I shifted my weight from one leg to the other. The tension in the air was heavy and I wanted to keep avoiding it the same way that I had been doing.

I had not heard from Tristan for a week and that was mainly because I had been actively running away from him and the questions that I knew he had. Now that I was here in his office I doubted that I could run any farther.

"Tell me Alex,'' he took his glasses, his expression serious, ''Are we going to address the elephant in the room by any chance?"

I sighed and took a seat. Might as well get it over with right? I only hoped that he would not be as

  • Teach me to sin   Eighty: Tristan's POV [You deserve this, Mom]

The house felt unusually quiet, a stark contrast to how it usually was. Darling was resting in the guest room, the heavy sleep of exhaustion finally claiming him. I didn't want him being alone in the house after everything that had happened.A change of environment would do him some good. It had been a crazy few days. I had reconnected with a past life that I could have sworn that I had left behind, kidnapped, beaten and extorted a mayoral candidate and now that mayoral candidate was about to kiss his career and long term marriage goodbye.Darling had decided to out him to his wife, several blogs and any other person that would relish in the fact that Thomas Rowler was not only cheating on his perfect wife with a transitioning man but also abusing the said man. That did not sit well with the general public and especially not with the LGBTQ community. Thomas Rowler was done.My job was done. Now, all that remained was getting ahold of Alex. I could be wrong but it was starting to feel

The brandy burned its way down my throat, a familiar fire that did little to thaw the ice around my heart. My reflection in the dark window pane was one that I did not recognize. My mind replayed scenes of different men and women who had called me beautiful. Once a nice lady had handed me a rose on the street and told me that I was gorgeous from the inside out.I felt like I was walking on air that day and even now, I still had the flower siting pretty in a vase. I turned to it and tried to smile. It hurt to even do that now. I wondered if she would still think I was beautiful if she could see me now.I now for a fact that I wasn't. I didn't feel that way, both inside and out. On the outside, I had a swollen face, a big purpling eye, a split lip that still stung and bruises over my chest and the rest of my upper body. Each movement resulted in so much pain that I had to breathe heavily before moving again. Unfortunately for me, Tristan had taken all the medication in the house after th

The cold fury that had simmered beneath my carefully constructed composure since Alex’s frantic reveal finally had a target. Thomas Rowler. The name tasted like ash. Seeing Darling, broken and bruised, had ignited something primal in me, a part of myself I’d long buried under layers of academia and respectability. "How long?" I had asked after I arrived at Darling's home that Thursday evening. He didn't meet my eyes... he couldn't. He simply kept his face down and didn't say a word. I was angry but I needed to be careful not to take it out on him. I needed to remember that he was a victim.I just couldn't understand how he could hide this from me? How I had not seen the signs? This person was supposed to be my friend, someone that I cared for. How could someone be this cruel to someone?I stooped low and lifted Darling's face so he could look at me. His left eye was positively swollen. I wanted to fucking kill the bastard. How could he? What for?"Darling....how long has this been g

''You can't just do this to me, Rita!" Toby screamed from the other end of the bedroom door, ''OPEN THE DOOR!!"I had left Halima's residence and taken a cab back to his place to get my things so I could properly be out of his life. He had arrived shortly after I had and I locked the door so he wouldn't have the chance to stop me.I didn't want to be stopped. I wanted to be out of this man's life and I wanted him out of mine."RITA! OPEN THE DOOR!"No can do, baby boy. I tossed the last of my belongings which thankfully wasn't too much and closed the box shut. God, I can't believe this was actually happening. And to think that I had given a relationship a shot after so long.I took a deep breath. It was time to leave. Pulling my box, I unlocked the door and Toby barged in before I had the chance to step out properly. His eyes widened in alarm as soon as he saw the suitcase and he held my hand before I could walk away."Rita, Rita, wait. Wait, come on. We can work this out okay. Just...

  • Teach me to sin   Seventy Six: Rita's POV [I'm done]

I was seated on the couch of Halima Jamal, the daugter of a wealthy Arabian business mogul; one of the richest in his country and the world. She was the childhood friend of Toby and he had invited me to have mid day drinks with her and her cousin, Faruk. These people were wealthy alright. I had been in plenty mansions before but boy when I say that this one took the cake and to think that it was nothing but a small, vacation home.I had my legs placed on Toby's thighs. Rather, he had placed them there himself and kept his hands on them as he spoke to his friend. Looking in from the outside one might see this as a cute romantic gesture but I knew why he was doing it. It was because of Faruk. He had mentioned on the ride here that Faruk had a wandering eye and wanted a taste of every new woman that was presented before him even if she belonged to another. He wasn't wrong. The moment that Faruk had laid eyes on me I felt like a prey under the watchful gaze of a hungry predator.Halima w
