Chapter 1

The Resilient Warrior

On graduation day, I went to congratulate my students as their lecturer.

I also planned to ask Renee for the $20,000 I had lent her for school and medical expenses.

But when I saw her, before I even said anything, she gave me a look of contempt and said, "Candice, go get your car and take me home."

I was a bit stunned. "What did you say?"

Renee scoffed, pulled out an ultrasound report, and handed it to me.

Confused, I took the document. It said early pregnancy, about 10 weeks along.

I was speechless. What were these college students thinking? Did they really think they could treat their lecturer like a chauffeur just because they were pregnant? Why was she acting so entitled?

"Renee Blue, your pregnancy has nothing to do with me. Why should I take you home?"

Her bestie, Fiona, immediately chimed in, "How can you say that, Ms. Jonah? Renee has difficulty moving around because she's pregnant. If it weren't for your car being nice, comfortable, and safe, we wouldn't even want to ask you!"

"What kind of nonsense is that? What does it matter how nice my car is? Who are you to demand anything from me?"

I was beyond words and wanted to leave, but Renee blocked my way, arms crossed. "Candice, not only are you driving me home today, you're gonna drive me home every day from now on. You're also going to prepare all my meals and take good care of me and my baby. You'll do everything I say. If I feel the slightest bit of discomfort, you'll pay for it!"

I took a deep breath to calm myself down, then touched her forehead to make sure she didn't have a fever. I couldn't help but remark, "If your brain is fried, you should go see a doctor! You’re just pregnant, not giving birth to a goddess. Why should I serve you? Your comfort or discomfort has nothing to do with me! You’re insane!"

Fiona and Renee exchanged glances, both looking smug. Fiona stepped forward and confidently patted Renee’s belly while looking at me arrogantly. "Don't you know, Ms. Jonah? Renee is carrying your husband's baby! Your husband is the president of Lenis Corporation, so this baby will become the heir of Lenis Corporation!"

I was stunned and didn’t know how to respond. After all, my husband, Igor Lenis, had been dead for seven years.

The Resilient Warrior
Audrey was out in the fields all day with the men, Sword in hand and eyes flashing. She held her sword like the expert she was fast becoming and never for once pluck her eyes off the focus. She was training with the men, preparing fiercely for the rogues who visited them every now and then to steal and destroy .When Audrey had first started her training as a little girl, her mother had been panicked and had tried to make her father, Alpha Austin to see reasons why Audrey should be kept away from the wildness of the battlefield but all her efforts had proven abortive. She had watched Audrey grow up, fighting and wielding the sword perfectly. As well as a warrior. A strong one.Audrey loved the outside. The fields and the idea of bringing down enemies mortally appealed to her. For weeks, her pack, the Burning Mountain pack had been visited with unaware attacks by rogues of a distant pack and all those times, she had derived pleasure from bringing the enemies down and defeating them. The Attack At Night
Audrey sat on the gold emblazoned stool in her room as her mother dried and oiled her hair as she always did when she was younger. She had ended the discussion about finding her mate and they both sat there in silence, the only sounds in the room were that of the comb running through her hair and the occasional sighs of her mother. Soon, her hair was back to being the beauty that most women envied. Red and full and long with a shine that never completely wore off no matter what. She was grateful for her hair. It had been the sole attraction of many in the past and still at present.. when her mother rose to leave , she felt a pang of pain. She had to enjoyed having her hair taken care of by her mother and it had made her nostalgic."I'll send in the maid to come and see you into your dress so that you can come down for dinner",Her mother said. She nodded as she set the stool aside and sat by the dressing table, to admire her hair in the full length mirror and see how tanned her skin h

The Loss Of Soldiers
Audrey was on her feet before the clock could make another tick sound. She was in her night dress and she was disoriented for a few seconds before she gained her strength and composure. She reached for her sword which never went too far away from her bed since the rogues started attacking and picked up her boots. The noise outside intensified and she could hear feets hurrying pass her door. The guards and all the domestic staff in the house were scrambling past, either to go out to the fight or to hide in a safer place. She felt the adrenaline rush up her spines as she shrugged out of her night dress and slipped on her trousers and boots. She was soon done and she took in deep gulps of breath. Just then, the door to her room banged. She rushed to the door and held the knob, ready to open it but the voice out in the hallway made her stop."My lady, the Alpha said you should not leave your rooms, you are safe here, the rogues have not been able to penetrate the pack house and the men ar

Joining Forces With The Blood Moon Pack
It was a long night of troubles for the Burning Mountain pack. The rogues who seemed to have retreated had returned with full force and even though Audrey had done her best at the battlefield, they had ended up losing about three of their soldiers. They were all sad. In the end, they had sent the rogues away but they knew it was only temporary. The rogues will go back, equip themselves and strike again and as much as she wished she could do something to stop them, she had the settling knowledge that she could not help it on her own. Three of their very good men had been killed and it was a miracle that she was alive after coming in close contact severally with arrows that almost ended her. She had escaped one way or the other and once, she had felt the cold blade of an enemy's sword rest behind her neck. She had thought she was going to die then in the hands of her enemies but one of her men had struck the enemy from behind and she had been free. When they had finally sent the rogues

Blood moon pack
Audrey was in her room when her father sent for her. She was dressed soon and found herself rushing into the courts where her father attended to matters concerning the pack. This time, he had with him his Beta and his Luna and there was in the congregation, the leader of the army. She stopped by the door and observed them but her father's eyes caught hers and she saw in those eyes, an encouragement to come in. She walked in."Come and sit down, dear. Your father thinks it will be a good idea to tell you something very important_"Her mother said as she walked in. Her hesitancy thrown away as she walked to the seat her mother was pointing at briskly. She sat."Dad, I am here."She said. She sat smugly and crossed her legs. Her father looked at her admiringly before speaking."Well, dear. I know this might not sound like the best idea to you but I want to inform you that we have decided to join forces with the blood moon pack so we can fight the Rogues and send them away forever. Sniffing Her Mate
The luna had spoken at length to Audrey about the pack that were to come the next day. She had spoken about poise and charisma and had told Audrey that she was not to be at the fields, training. She was to exude all the charm that daughters and heirs of packs exuded and she had been bored listening to her mother give her all the detailed lectures. Some of which she did not even need. "Mother, is it necessary that I act the way you have asked me to?"She asked lazily at a point."It is not how I have asked you to, it is how you should act..like the royal daughter that you are. You are not supposed to carry yourself like any common member of the pack"Her more replied sternly."Well, I will chose to be myself at anytime regardless of the people around and the place that I find myself. Again, I find that having to act like the royal daughter that I am limits me from doing a lot and being myself_"Audrey said. She had learnt to always speak her mind and she did that everytime no matter w

Restless
Audrey was not going to stop. She ran all the way up the stairs and only stopped when she reached the door of the library upstairs. The library was one of the many rooms in the pack house that gave a lucid view of the house below. She opened the door and went inside. It was calm and as serene as she always remembered it. As a child, she had ran into the library a few times to escape being scolded by her mother after she must have indulged in one mischievous activity or the other. The library brought her memories as she stepped into it, a sweet sense of nostalgia teased her. She looked around the shelves holding the antique books that had been passed down from one generation to the other, Passed from one ancestor to the other and eventually amassing to the number they were. She walked around, the smell of her mate whom she was aware was only downstairs was temporarily forgotten and in that instance, she wished she could just remain in the library, away from the arriving guests and the

Trailing
Audrey was a bit uneasy as she did not smell her mate anymore. She still had not seen the fellow and she had no idea whom among the many men he was. She was still busy, having to order the maids around as the hostess, see that everything was in place.. it was almost lunchtime and the sun was high up in the sky. She took the stairs once again and was going to head straight to her room when the scent of her mate came to her again, this time stronger and more compelling. By the time she reached the door of her father's study, it was unmistakable that the scent was coming from there.. she felt the compelling force push the door open and she stepped in. There was seated right across her father the Alpha of the blood Moon pack. Ron! She gulped in some air and greeted her father. She was obviously disoriented. "Father, good day.." she said. She had no good excuse to give for coming into the study unannounced and so she busied her brain by cooking up a suitable excuse."I had only come to a

Determined
Ron was closely followed by Robert as he continued to walk briskly. He did not see Chloe walk from where she had been towards him until she was right behind him. She called him."Wait up, Ron!"She said in suppressed whisper and Ron turned back sharply.. she quickened her pace."Yes, Chloe what do you want?"He asked as he turned away from her but did not walk away. She reached him and breathed loudly."Why do you ask me such question, Ron?" She asked with a forced smile. She was in front of Ron in the next moment and her hand raised to rest on the lapels of Ron's shirt. He moved a step back and stood more comfortably a few feets away from her. She sighed but did not make any attempt to go closer. "I ask what you want, Chloe that you must detain me _" Ron said as his eyes moved from her across the hall ahead of them."You know what I want and you won't say no to me, right?" She hinted, biting down on her lower lips. Ron did not pay any attention to her latest seductive look. He was s

Feeling Of Hatred
Audrey suffered all night with the scent of her mate plaguing her. She was not sure what to do about it. She could not avoid it even if she did. She had walked in wobbly feet when she had gone before the maids, showing them how and where to place the deserts after dinner and Ron had looked her way.. she had lost her composure and had felt her insides go hot and then cold. And then there was the sudden fluttering of butterflies in her innards. She loved and despised the sensations he stirred in her and she hated how totally indifferent he was in all of that!"Well, it was a good night, was it not?"Luna Victoria asked as she came into Audrey's room that night." I loved how totally composed you had been my dear.. I told you, you were only nervous, but once you set your mind away from all of that nervousness, you do really good. A good hostess you made, indeed my dear," she said as she plopped on the bed. Audrey was in the bed. Still pondering on all that had happened.. the breaths she h
