Chapter 6: Because I'm Not Your Type

Melissa's POV

So if the Alpha I grew up with treated me that badly, and I've been rejected three times already, why would I accept his proposal?

Could one really be mated for the fourth time? Is the moon goddess so cruel to me that she decides to use me as a specimen, to see if these men would like to accept their mate?

These questions ran through my mind all the evening of my eighteenth birthday.

The party had begun about an hour ago. My other servants and I took drinks and other things to the hall. I had searched around to see where alpha Reuben was sitting so that I could avoid some trouble.

My eyes caught sight of him after a few moments of search. He was among the most handsome of men. They all looked like some gods:

Huge and Muscular!

Perfectly chiseled face and jawline!

Large, commanding body structures!

I knew they were alphas, since alpha Reuben wouldn't sit among people that were less than his species and rank. I left quickly to avoid some trouble.

As I closed the door linking the hallway to the reception hall, an unusual smell forced its way into my nostrils, instantly intoxicating me. I wanted to open the door and follow that scent to see who it

was, who was playing tricks with my mind.

But I refused and walked away, ignoring the urging of my wolf, Sassy.

“That hall is filled with Alphas, Betas and their Gammas, maybe. No one wants to see an omega there.” I demurred defensively.

I wanted to go to my room and just got myself distracted when the Gamma in charge of entertainment called me and handed me a well-designed tray, containing a neatly cleansed glass, and a bottle of wine.

“The Alpha King arrived a few minutes ago. Take this to Alpha Reuben. It's for the king.”

I wanted to say no or run away, but I knew I couldn't. My plan to be far away from Alpha Reuben didn't work. My worst fear always had a way of catching up with me, no matter how fast I ran.

I took the tray and walked towards the door. The scent I perceived earlier was now so strong. It was killing my resolve not to follow it, and was coaxing me to submit to my wolf's leading.

I pushed the door handle with one hand and held the tray in the other, it swung open.

As I bent to prevent the tray from falling off, my long hair fell over my shoulders and almost covered my face. It was the only thing I loved, that alpha Reuben hadn't taken away from me as yet.

As I entered the hall, I don't know how, but the scent had changed to a mate bond pull. I turned my eyes just to check the direction of the bond pull and my gaze fell on three people whose gazes were fixed on me intensely.

The worst and last person I wanted to see - alpha Reuben, was at one corner of the hall looking impatient. I saw Lizzy on the dance floor with a man, but surprisingly, they were not dancing, just staring at me. The man looked familiar, but I don't think I've seen him ever before.

Yeah!

My goodness!

Our mate!

Sassy shouted in my head like some horny pervert.

“Shut the hell up, Sassy.” I berated, trying to think about this, and find the meaning to all of that.

I dared to take a second look at the man whose hand Lizzy clung to, like a frightened child.

He was beyond handsome. Such a towering masculinity in the way he dressed. His well-tailored tuxedo skillfully expressed his broad shoulders while the collar of the suit descended and rested on his well-chiseled and muscular chest, before forming a V-shape at the point where the first button was fixed.

I was still drooling over his handsomeness when I saw the unbelievable.

He was moving towards me, but Lizzy tried to stop him. He freed himself and took some giant strides towards me.

My legs shaked as if they couldn't carry my weight any longer. Fear and excitement shook through me.

Here comes our mate. Sassy growled excitedly.

“Can you feel the bond?* He asked oddly, when he was just a few inches away from me.

“No! What bond?” I lied, but my heart knew what bond he was talking about. I didn't dare to look at Lizzy's glaring eyes, who were shooting daggers.

I was now covered in the man's scent. His scent enveloped him and swept me off my feet, taking me to the land of ecstasy.

I wanted to fall into the man's arms and remain there forever, but I managed to control myself.

Besides, I knew how this was going to end.

The man introduced himself to me as Alpha Enzo.

For a moment, I was dazed, but I tried not to show it.

The Alpha King himself?

The excitement that was building moments ago slowly waned.

I knew how this would end.

This is the point where he tells me I'm not his type, or he has an arranged mate.

I thought to myself, and he looked at me like he could read my thoughts.

When I told him my name, I expected him to reject me instantly, but he didn't. Everything became so strange from then on.

What's on his mind? Is he waiting to see if I will fall for him so that the rejection will be more painful? I wondered, while still looking at him.

Sassy and my mind were two unhelpful things at that moment. Sassy was overwhelmed by him and started craving him all the while we talked. My mind, on the other hand, was mesmerized. I had heard of how handsome and influential the alpha king is, but what I saw now, I knew those statements were underrated.

“Now you know my name, I want you to reject me, Your Highness.” I spoke casually, waiting to hear him say the words.

He howled loudly the second time and everyone flinched. He looked physically pained, making me confused.

“Why the fuck should we go that far as to rejecting each other?” He asked after he became calm. His stare wasn't frightening, but was rather tender and comforting.

“Maybe because I don't deserve you, or I'm not worth it.”

I paused because I was saying the opposite of what I felt for him. I only wanted to allow this little pain, so I could avoid the bigger pain of rejection. When he didn't stop me, I continued, and for once, I enjoyed the freedom of being allowed to speak.

“It may be because I'm not your type, or you have an arranged mate.”

He moved closer and took my hand in his. He then lifted it to his lips and planted a soft kiss on it. His action sent electric waves through my body and I let out a soft whimper in reaction to it.

A low murmur came out of the crowd since all eyes were on us. He didn't seem to care that all eyes were watching us.

He let go of my hand, and strangely let out a hearty laugh. I stood there shocked to my bone how he managed to find something amusing in this situation.

When he stopped, he turned to look at me and began the statement that would have long-lasting effects on my being.

“I, Alpha Enzo Hawood, descendant of Vanshant and the alpha king of the Silver Crescent kingdom, do….”

He paused and fixed his gaze on me. I knew the moment had come. My worst fear always catches up with me, no matter how fast I run.

I shut my eyes and waited anxiously for the very next word from his lips.
