Diane's POV

I was on my bed with my eyes on the ceiling, trying to rethink my decisions when my phone vibrated on the nightstand.

I stretched my fingers and pulled it close. I was going to bet it was Sophie calling to check on me —again, but surprisingly it was Lucius.

"Hello?"

The line scratched and then his voice came on. "I am sorry, did I wake you?"

A frown sat on my face as my heart immediately went to Owen.

"No, you didn't. Is Owen alright?" I asked unable to stop myself.

"Yes. He is fine. I —I just called to check up on you and..."

My cheeks turned pink as his words settled into my brain and I couldn't be more grateful that he was on the other end of the phone.

"Oh... Thanks," I whispered.

The line was silent for a few seconds and then he spoke again.

"Diane, if we are going to make this believable, I figured we should probably call each other a couple of times, to get used to it," he said. "I hope you don't mind?"

"Yes, that's true. No, I don't. I actually don't mind," I quick
