LOGINShe is the Crown Princess of Moon's Fall: masked, untouchable, and the last of her bloodline. He is the stepbrother who never saw her coming. When Alpha King Alexander takes a new queen, Elizabeth gains two stepbrothers she already knows, boys who looked straight through her at the Academy without ever seeing who she truly was. Buck and Elliot Talley are warriors, heirs, and now family. Forbidden in every way that matters. But the heart doesn't care about bloodlines. And the bond doesn't care about the law. She has worn a mask her whole life. The dangerous part isn't taking it off, it's what happens when the wrong people finally see her face.
View MoreA knock on the Alpha King Alexander’s office door rings out.
Alexander didn’t look up from what he was doing; he didn’t need to look up. “ENTER.” He called out. The door opened, and his daughter, the Crowned Princess Elizabeth, entered the study. “You sent for me, Father?” Elizabeth stated rather than asked, and based on her father’s posture, he had something important to tell her.Her father, the King, rises from his seat behind his desk and gestures towards the lounge on the other side of his study, “Come, My Little Star, we have much to discuss.”
“Of course, Father,” Elizabeth replied, closing the study door and waiting for the click before joining her Father in the sitting area.
Elizabeth sits down before continuing, “Father, everything ok?”
“Yes, my dear, it’s just…I grow lonely, my young one, and you have been without a mother figure in your life for some time, and now that you are 12 and are getting on to your teenage years, I think it is time that I take a chosen mate.”
“Father?”
“Please, my dear, hear me out. I loved your mother, Kailynn. She wasn’t just my Queen; she was my fated mate, and I find myself getting lonelier every year. It’s been five years, and soon you too will be of age, finding your mate, you could say I’m starting to feel left out.”
Elizabeth's eyes widened slightly, her hands fidgeting with the hem of her sleeve as she processed her father's words. She had never considered that her father might take another mate; the memory of her mother remained so powerful in the palace, almost as if her spirit still haunted the corridors.
"But Father, she wasn't just your mate. She was my mother," Elizabeth said softly, her voice barely audible even in the quiet study. Deep inside, a storm of conflicting emotions swirled: fear of change, worry about her own position, and beneath it all, a small spark of hope that perhaps she wouldn't be so alone in this vast palace.
Alexander watched his daughter's face carefully, reading the subtle shifts in her expression that others would miss. He had anticipated resistance, perhaps even tears, but the controlled composure she maintained made his chest tighten with both pride and concern. She was becoming more like him every day—perhaps too much so.
"I know, Little Star. No one will ever replace Kailynn. Not for me, and certainly not for you." He leaned forward, his imposing frame softening as he reached for his daughter's hand. "But the kingdom needs stability. The council has been pressing the issue for years."
“I’ve heard the whispers, Father. I know everyone keeps pointing out that I am the only Heir to the throne, that our line grows weak, and that the court thinks I don’t hear, but I do. Mother has been gone for four years, Silver positioning. I know, but that was an accident during training. I miss her, but I also understand that the Kingdom needs a Queen, and so does its King. When will I meet her?”“Tonight at dinner in the private dining hall, we’ll be having our first dinner as a family. Now, Little Star, she too has lost her mate two years ago, and she has twin sons, Buck and Elliot. I believe they're three years old, her then you.”
Elizabeth nodded, “A widow much like you, Father, some might question my right to rule with two young men as stepbrothers. I’ve heard the first names before, but I don’t know much about them.” “Your soon-to-be stepmother is the Luna Phoebe of the Thunder Peak Pack, and her twin sons are the Alpha Heirs of Thunder Peak Pack, Buck and Elliot Talley.”Elizabeth felt as though the air had been sucked from the room. The Thunder Peak Pack was one of the most powerful in the kingdom, second only to the Crown itself. Their territory controlled the crucial mountain passes that served as the kingdom's western defence, and their warriors were legendary for their ferocity.
"Thunder Peak," she repeated, her mind racing through the political implications. "Their territory borders three others. This alliance would strengthen our western flank considerably."
Alexander's lips curved into a subtle smile. His daughter had immediately grasped the strategic advantages, just as he had taught her. "Yes. And Phoebe is a formidable Luna in her own right. She's maintained control since her mate's passing with remarkable efficiency."
What Alexander didn't say, what he didn't need to say to his perceptive daughter, was that this match had been carefully orchestrated over months of diplomatic maneuvering. The council had presented him with twelve potential mates, all widowed or unmated females of high standing. He had chosen Phoebe not for love, but for power.
"The Talley twins..." Elizabeth's voice trailed off as she recalled the whispered rumours that had reached even her sheltered ears. "They have quite the reputation at the Academy."
Indeed, Buck and Elliot Talley were known throughout Moon's Fall Academy for their domineering presence and competitive spirits. Buck, the more outgoing of the two, had already established himself as a formidable athlete and shameless flirt, while Elliot's quiet intensity and analytical mind had earned him both respect and wariness from professors and peers alike.
"They are young men finding their way," Alexander said diplomatically, though his eyes hardened slightly. "But make no mistake, Elizabeth. Your position as Crown Princess and Heir remains unassailable. The Pearson bloodline rules by divine right of the Moon Goddess herself."
Elizabeth nodded, understanding the unspoken message. No matter what alliances were formed, no matter who entered their family circle, she was the future of the kingdom. The Goddess had blessed the Pearson line, and that blessing could not be transferred to the Talley twins, regardless of their mother's new status.
"I understand, Father." She straightened her posture, assuming the regal bearing that had been instilled in her since birth. "I will welcome Luna Phoebe and her sons with the grace befitting our house."
Alexander rose from his seat, signalling that their discussion was concluding. "There is one more thing you should know, Little Star." His voice softened with rare vulnerability. "I do not love Phoebe as I loved your mother. I never will. But I believe we can build a partnership that serves us both, and the kingdom."
The admission hung in the air between them, heavy with implications. Elizabeth understood what her father was truly saying: this was a political union, not a love match. The knowledge should have reassured her, yet somehow it made her heart ache for her stoic father, forever bound to the ghost of his fated mate.
“Perhaps, maybe something can come of it with time, Father. After all, the Luna only recently lost her mate; she would still be raw. I assume that we are to dress like a normal Alpha and his daughter for dinner, then? As to what the twins think of me when I’m at school? After all, everyone just sees me as the weirdly quiet Alpha’s daughter, might as well continue with that until father's wedding, I assume, and based on Royal protocol, that would be six months from now.”As they followed the messenger back toward the East Salon, Buck and Elliot exchanged a brief glance. Without words, both acknowledged what they had witnessed, the revealing crack in Nikolai's carefully constructed facade. In the royal corridor, Elizabeth and Luna Phoebe had already returned to the salon through more conventional paths. The princess had removed her mask briefly to confer with her father, her voice low as she reported what they had observed in the garden."Nikolai is probing more directly than expected," she murmured, keeping her voice below the hearing of Alpha Frost, who was engaged in conversation with a royal advisor across the room. "He's particularly focused on my potential presence at the Academy."King Alexander's expression remained impassive, though his eyes darkened slightly at this information. "Not unexpected, though concerning in its boldness. And the twins?""Handling themselves with
"Of course," he conceded with a graceful inclination of his head. "I meant no offence. Merely an observation about unusual coincidences."Buck relaxed slightly, though his wolf remained on alert. "The palace gardens continue this way," he said, deliberately changing the subject. "I believe there's a section dedicated to Frostmoon's indigenous plants ahead."As they resumed walking, Nikolai fell into step beside Elliot, subtly separating the twins. "Your brother has always been direct," he observed quietly. "A valuable trait in some circumstances, dangerous in others.""Different approaches serve different purposes," Elliot replied neutrally. "Thunder Peak values both strength and strategy."In their hidden overlook, Elizabeth nodded with approval. "They're handling him better than I expected," she murmured to Luna Phoebe. "Especially considering how little time they've had to prepare."The future queen
"Our warriors understand that strength comes in many forms," Buck stated, meeting Nikolai's gaze directly. "My father taught us that a pack that refuses to learn becomes vulnerable."Nikolai circled the fountain with measured steps, his movements deliberately predatory. "Your father was indeed wise. His absence is felt throughout the kingdom." He paused, allowing the mention of their deceased parent to settle before adding, "I imagine it must be... challenging... to honour his legacy while adapting to royal expectations."The calculated sympathy in Nikolai's voice made Buck's wolf stir with instinctive wariness. The Frost heir was probing for weaknesses, seeking emotional vulnerabilities to exploit."Our father would have supported this alliance," Elliot replied before Buck could respond. "He always placed Thunder Peak's future above personal considerations."From their hidden position, Elizabeth felt a surge of a
The three young wolves moved through the palace corridors in silence until they reached the grand doors leading to the northern gardens. Royal Guards stationed at intervals throughout their path watched with vigilant eyes, their presence a constant reminder that nothing in the palace occurred without observation."The northern gardens were designed to honour packs from colder territories," Buck explained as they stepped into the immaculately maintained space. The knowledge had come from one of Master Darian's brief cultural asides during their training earlier.Meanwhile, in the sitting room…“This isn’t about the dress, is it, Princess?”“Yes and no, this is the dress I’ll be wearing; however, we will be following your sons and Alpha Heir Frost. I need to know what he intends to try with them.”Luna Phoebe raised an eyebrow, impressed by Elizabeth's candour an
