DELILIAH
“Deliliah, what have you done?!” The words echoed through the temple, but they barely reached me over the sound of my own heartbeat. I knelt on the cold stone floor, my palms pressed flat against the ground to keep from collapsing. The sacred circle of priestesses loomed around me, their faces twisted with disgust, their whispers cutting deeper than any blade. My head throbbed, threatening to pull me into darkness. But I forced myself to stay strong tonight. Because my life...no, my very existence depended on the outcome of this meeting, and I couldn't afford to show any more weakness. Not after the crime I'd just committed. Not after him. “Do you understand the consequences that loom over you and that boy after what you two did?” One of the older priestesses said, her voice filled with disgust. “Just imagine! A priestess losing her purity to the alpha's adopted son! Imagine what the wolves of the pack would say when they find out about this...this scandal!” Another voice joined, smooth and condemning. “She must have been deceived by his sweet words. Charmed by his false promises and led astray. A pity, truly.” My wolf and I immediately took offense to her words. I was never forced to do anything I didn't want to do. And truthfully, I still couldn't bring myself to regret it. But my instincts told me that saying those words would only worsen my situation, so I focused my attention on my mentor, who has been standing at the center of the circle all this time. “So what is going to happen to Viktor and me now?” I asked. My throat felt dry and painful after kneeling in the stone of Punishment, but I didn't let that stop me. If there were anyone who could offer me some form of leniency, it would be this woman who held the highest power in the order of the Moon Priestesses. The High Priestess let out a disappointed sigh as she clasped her hands in front of her, watching me with calm, wise eyes. She always had a way of seeing through me since I was little, so I knew it was meaningless to pretend now. “Did you love him?” she asked, her voice resonating through the silent temple walls. Moonlight spilled through the temple's open roof, falling onto my figure. It should have scared me to have the moon goddess witness my act of disobedience. But instead, my head lifted with defiance. If love were a crime, then I wanted to be the world's greatest criminal for the one I had chosen. “Yes, I do,” I whispered, though my voice trembled. The old woman sighed. “It is a pity that he doesn't share the same sentiment with you, my dear,” she said, steady and firm. “He has agreed to leave the pack alone on the condition that Alpha Rafael spares his life.” My breath caught after hearing her words. “What..?” “He does not love you, Deliliah,” the High Priestess declared, her gaze piercing as she gave her verdict. “And now you shall pay for the cost of your mistake. You are to be imprisoned in the Hall of Punishment for three years.” My hands, clutching my dress, suddenly trembled as I tried to protest. “Wait a minute. What do you mean Viktor is gone—” The old woman continued to speak. “You will not speak with anyone. You will bear the mark of the Forsaken, those who have abandoned their vows towards the moon goddess for... worldly desires.” Something in me shattered. I sank to the floor, struggling to process her words. It felt like the world around me had faded away to this single revelation that she just made to me. My chest felt tight, and my hands kept trembling no matter how hard I tried to stop them. Viktor...had abandoned me and fled the pack to save himself. It felt like the moon goddess had finally stripped me of the one last important thing to me, leaving only emptiness and darkness. For a moment, I allowed the despair to consume me, leaving me grieving for the one who had betrayed me. The priestesses’ countenances changed once their eyes landed on me again. Faces filled with disbelief, shock, and awe looked upon me like I had suddenly sprouted wings or something. “It cannot be,” one of the old priestesses gasped, pointing at me with shaky fingers. “Evelyn, are you seeing what I am seeing?” “I-Impossible!” another voice stammered. “H-How did she manage to retain her powers after losing her virginity?” Me? I could barely register their words as I raised my fingertips in the air, letting the glow between them grow bigger until it felt too big for my body to contain. My body thrummed with the familiar surge of power I had trained my entire life to wield. The High Priestess stumbled at the sight of the crescent shape hovering over my head, shining like a crown of moonlight. “Could it...be the Mark of the Moon's Chosen?” she murmured with reverence. I felt the power drain out of my fingertips once she raised hers towards me. The large crescent crown instantly vanished, causing me to collapse on the stony floor. For the first time since the meeting began, the old woman stepped down from the high platform and walked towards me with slow, steady steps filled with authority. Once she stepped a few metres from me, she finally crouched to her knees to look at me at eye-level. “You were to be given the mark of the Forsaken, but instead you will be given the mark of the Moon's Chosen. For I cannot punish someone whom the moon goddess has selected for her great purpose according to the prophecy,” she said, her voice softer with love. “Swear your allegiance to the moon goddess once again, and I will clear you of all your charges. Promise me that you would never give your heart to another man again.” Tears slid down my cheeks as I looked at her with pain and heartache swirling in them. Deep down, my wolf urged me not to make such a vow, for it went against everything I ever wanted for myself. Why should I refuse it? What else is left for me? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Viktor made sure of that when he left. My chest tightened with something cold and unrecognizable, settling deep in the place my heart used to be. "I swear my sole allegiance to the Moon Goddess," I said, my voice quiet and final. "I swear I will never be led astray by love again. Never again." The moment I said those words, it felt like something in me just died. I spotted a smile bloom on the Head Priestess's face, sending a chill down my spine. For the first time throughout the night, I truly felt afraid.DELILAH Viktor and I rushed out of the Moon Temple when we heard Vivian's voice. My heart was pounding loudly in my ears as I ran across the hallway, my hand entwined in Viktor's. We didn't stop until we reached the entrance where Vivian was kneeling on the floor. It was too dark in the night to see anything, but my senses immediately picked up another scent. Oh, dear moon goddess. Before I could even react, Viktor sped past me in a flash, arriving at her side. The air was thick with heavy tension as I stopped a few feet away from them. A second later, a loud enraged howl tore through the air. Vivian shifted slightly, allowing me to catch a glimpse of the person she was holding on the floor. It was Andrei. The sight rocked me to the core. If it wasn't for the heavy stench of blood that filled my senses again, I would have suspected that this was some kind of illusion again. But unfortunately, it wasn't. So, I rushed straight to them without a second thought. Andrei was pal
DELILAHWe appeared in front of the Hall of Punishment in less than ten minutes, but by the time we were already too late when we got inside. There was no one there. I was stunned as I stared at the empty space, wondering what the hell was going on. There were clearly captured children in my vision, yet the reality was quite different. Viktor raised his head to sniff the air. “Someone just left the building. Find him.”Andrei immediately nodded before running out of the temple to track down the scent. Vivian waved her hand over the place, wielding her moon magic to assess the dark energy around. When I saw it, I quickly closed the distance between us and stopped her. “Vivian, don't use your magic!”She gasped. “Why?” “There's too much dark energy here,” I explained, looking around the broken down walls of the temple. “You might risk getting corrupted if you're not careful.”Vivian's eyes suddenly widened from realization after she heard me. She quickly withdrew her powers after
DELILAHOnce it was evening, the four of us gathered in the Moon Temple. The other generals stayed outside guarding the building to make sure that no one interrupted the ceremony.Tonight, my heart was pounding so loudly that I was sure Viktor and the rest could hear this. But I forced myself to remain calm on the outside because everyone was depending on me. I was still the Head Priestess, and I was going to act like it. With that thought in mind, I finally stepped into the circle that had been created earlier. The power surrounding it immediately prickled against my skin, sharp and cold like lake water during winter. Only Vivian and I could enter. The magic woven into the ritual was too potent for anyone without magic. If Viktor or Andrei tried to step inside, the backlash alone could break their bodies. So they remained beyond the edge, watchful and tense.I felt Viktor’s gaze on me as I moved across the circle. I did not turn around, because if I met his eyes now, I feared the
DELILAH The next morning, I had just finished changing into my priestess robes after an exhausting checkup session with Olivia when I heard the door open. I didn't even need to turn around to know who it was. “What are you doing here?” I asked, smoothing my dress. “I came to see my best friend.”I could hear the nervousness in her voice as she approached me slowly. Vivian had always been like this. Whenever she got me upset, she would come with her most pitiful face to beg for forgiveness. In the past, I used to always bend first because of the long history between us. But now, I was too pissed to do it this time. This wasn't a squat between friends, or a disagreement that we normally had whenever we talked about her avoiding her duties. She lied to me. She deceived me all the years and kept secrets from me. The fact that I was still reeling from the fact that she was my mentor's daughter was enough reason for me not to even want to reconcile with her. But she was still my best
DELILAHI just couldn't believe it.Watching Vivian stand right in front of me and confess that my mentor, the former Head Priestess whom I had known almost all my life, was her biological mother, made me suspect once again that I was dreaming. Perhaps I was in some kind of illusion, or still under the grip of my high fever, I reasoned silently as Viktor interrogated her further.Olivia approached me with slow, steady steps while I was distracted with my thoughts. Once I was aware of her presence, I nearly jerked back with shock, but stopped myself halfway when her face came into view."Oh, my goodness!" I gasped, clutching my chest. "I thought you were asleep. What are you doing here?"The healer pointed to the corner where Viktor and Vivian were talking in hushed tones. "Kinda hard to keep sleeping when you have a furious Alpha King in the room, you know? Plus, I heard what Vivian said."I let out a soft sigh after hearing her explanation. I was still struggling to process the new i
VIKTORBy the time I returned to the healer's cabin, I was slightly out of breath. Maybe it was the residues of the adrenaline pumping through my veins, or the excitement in my mind that caused me to break every traffic rule in the book. All I knew was that there was only one thing on my mind, and that was seeing Delilah again. So, I stepped out of the car and rushed towards the healer's cabin like my life depended on it. There was a small crowd surrounding the building, probably some concerned packmates who came to check on her. But Dvah was doing his job well and keeping them away. If it were any other general, I would have been worried. My men were apex predators, so they were more attuned to their beastly side than their human form. But Dvah was different. Although he seemed annoyed by the number of people around them, he still calmly told them off.“Please don't come near,” he said with a little edge in his voice. “We have strict orders not to let anyone enter inside.”The cro
DELILAHThe following days, I stayed in the healer's cabin, living my life leisurely and quite... pleasurably. I ignored Caspian's numerous requests to summon me for morning pack rituals and other reasons he probably didn't want to mention publicly. He was probably panicking more than usual because
VIKTORThe past few nights hadn't been very nice. I was losing creeping towards the edge of my sanity anytime I woke up from sleep, only to meet a cold, empty bed. My wolf mocked me from within, growling that the woman we both desired would have been lying by our side along time ago if we just did
