CHARLES

“Amy!” I called out her name in stammers; I couldn't even make myself call her out once, as I was shocked I had gotten to her door, and I had just punched the wall so hard that she even heard me punch the wall.

I must have scared her just now; she was traumatized by her former clan. I can't be so inconsiderate and still make her uncomfortable here.

I can't do that!

I wanted to apologize to her, but before I could even open my mouth, she spoke first, not with fear but clarity.

“Are you okay?” She asked, and before I could respond, she walked out towards me and held my hand.

“You are bleeding!” She said, I instantly looked down at my hand, and I was surprised. I didn't even feel anything until she spoke.

“I will clean it later; it's nothing!” I said, and she was shocked.

“You punched the wall just now, and you are bleeding, and you said it's nothing!” She said, and I could tell she was mad at me for punching the wall and bleeding and not caring about myself.

I was worried she would be sad, but instead, she is mad at me. I could not tell how warm my heart was and how it ended up being so warm, but I was really touched by her words and actions.

“Come, let me clean it for you!” She said and pulled me into her room without even thinking of who I am and what my position is.

She just treats me like an ordinary person, and apart from Paul, no one treats me like that. My heart felt the peace and warmth coming from her.

She allowed me to sit on her bed while she went straight to the bathroom and returned with a dampened napkin and cleaned my hand gently.

She finished and applied a medicine on it. “You won't want me to bandage it because of your title, but I want you to promise me that you will not punch with the hand until it heals!” She said, and I looked at her face. 

“I promise!” I replied, and she smiled.

“You are the king of this pack; you are responsible for a whole lot of people—that's the whole pack. I need you to be more careful and considerate of your health too!” She said, and I nodded.

“If something happens to you, everything will be spoiled, and you are sure you don't want to ruin this pack!” She added, and I sighed.

“I promise to keep everything in check and not do anything absurd!” I replied to her, and she only treated them.

“How are you too?” I asked, and she looked at my face! 

“I am fine,” she said, and I swallowed her. I had shown up at her door subconsciously, as I wanted to see her face, but looking at her, I couldn't help but think I was getting addicted to her.

I always wanted to keep her safe in my arms, but that is not possible.

“Amy! I knew I promised you that I would wait until you fell in love with me before we had a marriage ceremony, but I think…” I paused as it seemed like I was going back on my words.

“Did your brother and stepmother threaten you?” She asked, and I was surprised how serious and smart she is! I sighed, looking at her face.

“They met with the elders and instigated that every king without a queen can't stay on the throne,” I replied to her, and her face widened.

“What?” She exclaimed as she looked at me! 

Yes, the elders came today to tell me to my face that I am not worth being the king anymore, and I will be demoted to the position of a warrior since I can't get my mate or a queen for the castle and the pack!” I added it, and she was confused.

“You have a mate now!” She replied, and I smiled. 

“And that is what they don't know; they have planned to make me leave the throne, and I want to see just how long they can keep up with me,” I answered her.

“And that’s what the game is all about!” I added,

“So what do you want to do??” She asked, and I sighed.

“We need to have our traditional marriage at the temple before the moon celebration!” I said, and she nodded.

“You don't have a word against that?” I asked her, and she smiled.

Not at all!” She replied. I thought twice looking at her. I do not know if she is mad at me or not. 

I had just promised her this morning that things would not go like the usual mate marriages, but we would fall in love. Even though I have fallen for her, I want to be sure she has fallen for me too!

“Either now or later, I will still get married to you, so why not now when we can win the throne back and also look at the faces of those traitors and let them see that we are not just a couple; we are the king and queen of this very pack,” she spoke up.

I looked at her acting so defensive for me.

“If they want to demote you, they will have to do better than this; they will have to see me dead and walk on my dead body before they can get to you!” I felt happy seeing how she was so defensive of my matters.

She looked determined and really ready to fight for me.

“I would rather chew poison than see that your preferred, rude, and annoying brother becomes the king in your stead!” She said, and I smiled.

She really detests Reed. 

I really want to know how they met and what happened, and I didn't want to ask her, as I didn't want to sound like I am an overprotective and clingy man!

“He said you both are quite close now, and he is acting for your hands in marriage!” I said, and her face turned red in anger.

She looked like an overboiled egg that wanted to burst.

“What!”
