“Are you hiding?” a deep rumbly voice from behind me sounded and I squealed and whirled around to see Echo looking down at me with a smirk from where I sat behind the small pool shed, relaxing in a patch of nice shade. He laughed and sat down beside me, laying back on the grass with his hands behind his head. I shrugged and lay down with him, using his stomach as a pillow.
“Kinda,” I admitted with a sheepish shrug as I looked up at the clouds moving through the sky, the trees waving in the wind and taking a deep breath of the crisp cool air. “I know it’s ridiculous and childish, but I’m just a little...overwhelmed. Kane and Magnus are everywhere and every time I turn around one of them is there and I’m just not sure how to act around either of them right now.”
“Hmm. Ok you know I love you, so when I say this, know that it comes from a good place.” I turned to
A sweet little chapter. It was a nice lighthearted one to write and it was good to show the interaction with her and Echo who is still really important to her. Let me know what you think, as always I love hearing from you guys.
“Smells like it’s burning there dear.” Kane teased as he looked over my shoulder as I stirred the soup. I snorted and nudged him away with my foot, putting my body in front of the stove. “Not at all. If you smell burning it’s definitely your grilled cheese.” I retorted as I turned off the soup and poured it into two bowls, taking them and setting them on the table along with napkins and spoons. “My grilled cheese is flawless Kara. Don’t pretend it doesn't smell delicious.” He smirked and he put two grilled cheese sandwiches on each plate and came to sit with me at the table. I rolled my eyes and smiled at him pushing a bowl towards him as he pushed a plate towards me. I laughed and moved my dishes before digging into my soup with a satisfied sigh. Comfort food was my absolute favourite. “Sure it smells delicious
“Ok I was a little worried earlier that your taste in movies would be atrocious but I am pleasantly surprised to learn that you have great taste in movies.” I teased as we cleaned up the mess in the living room at the end of the night, tossing all the garbage into the bin and cleaning up the mess of pillows and blankets. He chuckled and shrugged as he cleaned up the last of the garbage and turned off the tv. “I have great taste in movies, thank you very much. And I can show you more of my favourites for next time. Tonight it is late and we can go to bed. You must be exhausted, you haven’t been sleeping all that well.” He said with a soft smile as he gave me a small nudge towards the bedroom. “Been keeping a close eye on me I see.” I teased as I turned and leaned against the door frame of my bedroom. “I hear you m
I worked in the office all morning before I finally took a break at lunchtime when Gram came to me and told me that the work in dad's office was finished and it was ready for a final inspection. I quickly went with her and looked around with a large smile and teary eyes as I saw the Ravenfield desk back in its rightful place. The office no longer smelled of Silas and finally, the last remnants of him in my life were gone, all except for the bond braid which I had safely tucked away in a memory box. Despite the history, he still meant something to me and I was sad for what could have been if things were different. Despite all of that I was happy to be done with it and heading into a new chapter of my life.“Oh, it looks amazing hun. Your dad would be so proud of you, and I know for sure he is watching you with pride.” Gram whispered as she wrapped her arms around me from the side, giving me a sq
We stood in the kitchen in silence for a while as we cleaned up the last of the garbage and food containers from the meeting. It wasn’t a lot and the 3 of us made quick work of it. It was a very calm and domestic moment that had me relaxing in their presence. The two of them together just made me so flustered and hyper-aware of their presence that I could think of little else. While they started to tidy the kitchen table and chairs and put away the stacking stools, I was hit with a sudden craving for ramen noodles.I hummed softly as I filled a pot with water and waited for it to boil on the stove while I grabbed a few packets out of the cupboard, sighing softly as I recalled that Silas had bought a few packs for me when he found out it was one of my favourite comfort foods. Whoever his second chance mate turned out to be, I just hoped she’d be worthy of him. He was a good man and the lin
Over the next few weeks, pack life settled into a very good rhythm. We had very good and secure patrol rotations, the pack was thriving and everyone seems to be settling in perfectly. The Scouts are training the other warriors that are still here, allowing all of our warrior wolves to be cross-trained. It allowed better security with a smaller number of wolves. In that time, Kane returned to his pack for a few days to oversee things, send his warriors back and ask for any that would like to volunteer to stay in Ravenfield for a while. Thankfully a handful of wolves agreed to return with him when he came, all of them eager to take the chance to potentially find their mates within my pack. I was hopeful that they could as well. I found my groove but that didn’t mean I wasn’t still terrified that I might screw up irreparably and not be able to do anything
“You should try and get some sleep, Kara. The guards will alert me as soon as they find anything and I will wake you immediately.” Echo said from beside me on the couch, my feet in his lap and his warm hands massaging them while I picked at a frayed spot on my jeans. “I’m not tired. I’m way too worked up and I doubt I’ll be getting much sleep at all.” I sighed and tilted my head back, groaning as he found a tough spot on my foot and worked the sore muscle. “You need to sleep, Kara. Staying up and waiting will just make you even more stressed.” Echo urged as he pressed the instep of my foot hard enough to make me groan and jerk my foot in his grasp. “I’m not going to bed so give it up. I will wait for the search to be done.” I sighed and stood up, looking out the living room window into the dark trees surrounding
“I’m assuming you came back with more warriors that wanted the chance to meet their mates? How many did you bring back with you?” I asked Kane as I moved from the doorway and farther into the kitchen, making myself a cup of coffee as I stopped at the coffee pot, my hand rubbing along his back as I moved past him. The tingles across my palm were instant and judging by his slight shiver he felt them too.“I brought about 15, all varying ages. I asked only those who wished to come and be stationed here for a bit. Some are more inclined to stay and be a bigger part of your pack. I think they were just looking forward to the change of venue.” He chuckled as he poured the pancake batter into the pan.“I hope they enjoy it here. I’m also hoping that everything goes seamlessly tomorrow. I don’t want something to disrupt i
That night after everyone was asleep in the house, I made myself a cup of tea and went out to the porch swing on the front step with its white and pink unicorn fabric. I wrapped the blanket I brought with me around myself and tucked my feet up under me. I wrapped my hands around the warm mug and brought it close to my face for warmth and comfort. I used to love sitting on the porch swing with my mom and having milk and cookies while we just talked. I still associated this swing with her and it just felt like comfort.I set one foot down and pushed the swing slightly to rock it, sighing as I took a sip of tea and cradled the warmth close to me. I was so lost in my thoughts I didn’t even notice the door opening and Gram coming out until she sat beside me. I smiled softly at her and held the blanket out to her, wrapping it around her shoulders and snuggling into her side.
