“I’m assuming you came back with more warriors that wanted the chance to meet their mates? How many did you bring back with you?” I asked Kane as I moved from the doorway and farther into the kitchen, making myself a cup of coffee as I stopped at the coffee pot, my hand rubbing along his back as I moved past him. The tingles across my palm were instant and judging by his slight shiver he felt them too.
“I brought about 15, all varying ages. I asked only those who wished to come and be stationed here for a bit. Some are more inclined to stay and be a bigger part of your pack. I think they were just looking forward to the change of venue.” He chuckled as he poured the pancake batter into the pan.
“I hope they enjoy it here. I’m also hoping that everything goes seamlessly tomorrow. I don’t want something to disrupt i
That night after everyone was asleep in the house, I made myself a cup of tea and went out to the porch swing on the front step with its white and pink unicorn fabric. I wrapped the blanket I brought with me around myself and tucked my feet up under me. I wrapped my hands around the warm mug and brought it close to my face for warmth and comfort. I used to love sitting on the porch swing with my mom and having milk and cookies while we just talked. I still associated this swing with her and it just felt like comfort.I set one foot down and pushed the swing slightly to rock it, sighing as I took a sip of tea and cradled the warmth close to me. I was so lost in my thoughts I didn’t even notice the door opening and Gram coming out until she sat beside me. I smiled softly at her and held the blanket out to her, wrapping it around her shoulders and snuggling into her side.
I stared at the rings in disbelief and gently lifted them out of the box, turning them over in my fingers and inspecting them closely. They looked exactly as I remembered them, beautiful white gold and simple yet elegant. If anything, they reminded me slightly of mine and Cadmus’s wedding bands. Wish would mean Brodryn’s mother had made them. That would make sense considering marriage and a wedding wasn’t something wolves did in the traditional sense. Dragons however did have things like weddings. Cadmus’s mother was adamant that we start planning for ours immediately. “Do you have any idea what this could mean, Kara?” Kane asked as he watched me closely, his arm tightening around me and his hand rubbing my side. I shook my head, my eyes never leaving the rings in my open palm. “I have no idea. Mom and dad didn’t wear them often just because of shifting and e
“You don’t want me to return the favour?” I asked quietly, moving the bubbles around with my fingers while Kane chuckled and kissed just below my ear. “No baby I don't. Today is all about you and making sure you’re calm and ready for your ceremony. I know Magnus and his brothers have promised you to take things slow and move at your pace so I will give you the same assurance. I have no interest in rushing you or urging you to accept me as your mate. I am content to wait for when you are ready.” He murmured softly as he took the washcloth and started to wash my arms and chest. “Thank you. For not pushing.” I whispered as I tilted my head down slightly and kissed his arm as he wiped my chest with the cloth. “I don’t want to rush things, and I don’t want to be disingenuous. It’s a lot of people to navigate this time around and I don’t want anyone to feel like th
“You’re here,” I whispered in disbelief as I stared at each one of them wide-eyed. “You’re all here.” I gasped and before I was even aware of it I was down the stairs and launched myself at them, Magnus being the closest one caught me and crushed me to him, his arms around me tight, my legs around his waist and our lips locked in a searing kiss. I pulled away enough to catch my breath and then I was in someone else's arms, Brodryn pulling me into a tight hug and kissing the hollow of my throat as he inhaled my scent, his hands running through my hair before fisting the locks and tugging my head back enough to make me shiver and gasp as he kissed along my jaw. Then I was in Cadmus’s arms and he crushed me to his chest while his hands held me tight enough to leave marks and he kissed each corner of my mouth, my closed eyes and the erratic pulse point at my neck.
As soon as the howls rang out I shifted into my smokey grey wolf and howled once more and soon enough every other wolf started to take off their clothes and shift, joining my pack for a time-honoured tradition of a run through pack lands led by the Alpha. I waited for a bit and sent everyone a mind link, saying they need not shift and join in the run if they didn’t feel like it, it was mandatory in terms of participation. I padded over to where Magnus and his brothers were standing and sat in front of them, watching them closely as they looked at me. “Congratulations, Dear One.” Cadmus spoke as he smiled at me. I huffed in response and spoke to the four of them in mind link. : Thank you, Cadmus. I was wondering if you four would be willing to watch the others in attendance that have decided not to shift since you won’t be taking part in the run. I see that An
After the food and drinks were done people started to leave or stay in empty barack rooms or whatever empty homes were available but for the most part, people chose to leave and head back to their own packs. Once the food and everything else was cleaned up and the candles had safely burned down and the fires were put out it was finally time to call it a night. I went inside and straight to the bathroom, having a long shower and scrubbing every inch of my body and my hair.Once I was done I lotioned my skin and put on panties as well as a green slip nightgown. I went into the bedroom and right to my jewellery box, finding my ring from Cadmus and once more slipping it back onto my finger. I also took the signet ring Gram had given back to me and slipped it on my thumb since it was the only finger big enough to fit comfortably. I stepped up into the living room and smiled upon seeing all my men relaxing on the couches and chairs. I walked forward and smiled at Brodryn and
I woke the next morning to soft murmuring coming from the bedroom doorway, the voices hushed and low so as not to wake me or have me hear what is being said. I roll over and look to see Kane in the doorway talking to Tristan, both with worried looks on their faces. Immediately I was on alert and sat up, climbing out of bed and making my way to the door. “What's the matter? What happened?” I asked as I stepped up in front of Kane and looked at Tristan. He looked down at me and sighed, running his hand through his hair. “The black wolves attacked last night or really early this morning, just before dawn. Once again no one was killed and we had no idea they were there until the moment they attacked and then they were gone again without a trace.” He explained as he leaned against the door jam, a tired look on his face.
I sat in my office for the next few hours and called each Alpha in our alliance, starting with Silas and it was a strained conversation but he didn’t have any light to shed on the situation, his warriors hadn't seen any of the black wolves at all. Talking with the other Alphas turned out to be just as pointless as no one else had any reports of a run-in with the black wolves. It was increasingly frustrating not to have any other intel to go off of in terms of these wolves. So far the council wasn’t nearly as helpful as you would assume. Perhaps it was time that Magnus as a member of the council put his foot up their collective ass and finally get some answers.I stayed in my office for the rest of the morning, making sure to catch up on all paperwork. Eventually, I returned to the house and went into the kitchen, swiping a big glass of cold water and looking for a snack to eat. I was bent
