The kiss was brief, with my lips just touching his, and then I pulled away from Kasper. I tilted my head to the side directly at the point that he stood.

He remained there, his eyes looking distant, there were no words, and no reaction from him.

He turned and strolled out.

No words.

Nothing.

I stared at Kasper, his eyes were wide open at me, I knew that he needed explanation for what just happened but I wasn’t ready to explain all of that to him that night.

As long as he got the message, there was no way, I would be stuck as his mate.

“Eris…I.”

“Not tonight, Kas. Let’s do this some other time.”

I jogged out, I didn’t go back to the mating ritual, I didn’t want to be seen with anyone.

I went back to the car, and sunk into the backseat, placed my headset on, I wanted to be anywhere except here, and the look on Ocean’s face when he saw me, the moment we stood there, staring into each other. Our wolves felt the connection, the bond was there, she was yapping at him, and his stares, as if he was trying to look deep into my soul and bring out the deepest secret that I had laid in, or was he trying to figure it all out?

I stayed in the car till the next morning, and the moment the car door opened, I woke up. It was Mom.

“Why did you decide to sleep in the car?”

“It’s too early for all this mom, can we go?”

She folded her arms and studied me for a moment. “Eris.” She sighed, shaking her head slowly.

“We’ll talk when we get home, and where you able to feel any—“

“Nothing, mom. I felt nothing.” I replied sharply before she could say anything else.

She closed the door of the backseat and sat with Alpha West when he came in.

Ocean didn’t get in the car with us.

“Ocean had something to take care of, he’s gone home already,” Mom said while I took my seat belt, and adjusted myself properly on the seat.

If he was trying to avoid me because of what happened last night, then he should.

That would be better for all of us.

I had my headset on because I didn’t want to be involved in any of the conversations that they were having.

“We are home…” Mom said and I took my headset off, and jumped out of the car, walking directly into the house.

“Eris, we need to talk.” She called after me.

“I will be back, honey,”

She followed me, I heard the sound of her shoes as she hurried to keep up with my movements. She slowed her pace when she was close enough.

She cleared her throat. “So you didn’t find your mate last month?” She asked calmly, I said nothing and kept walking ahead of her.

“I just want to know, it’s a good thing if you find one, and you can get to be like a normal young girl in love, and with West's help, I was able to book a therapy session for you, you can meet up with her on Tuesday after your classes. She’s nice.”

“I know it’s my fault, Eris, that’s why I’m trying to make it all better, it’s hard for you, just the way it’s hard for you too but if you wont give me a chance, Eris, I don’t know what else to do.” She stressed and she dropped her hands to the side noisily.

I stopped walking in front of my door, leaned against it, and folded my arms.

“Dad, he was your mate, wasn’t he?”

“He was.”

“Was he good?”

Her countenance changed immediately. “We both know he wasn’t.”

“So what makes you think finding a mate would be any different, and that’s he’s going to love me and all? Mom, I don’t believe in love, fate, and soulmate.”

“Your wolf connected with someone didn’t she?”

“Does it matter, ain’t they all the same?”

“There are good men, I made a bad choice but I met West and he’s healing that part of me. I want the same for you, so I booked the therapy session and I want you to have some fun and live ....”

I pursed my lips and watched her.

“Your father might not be that man but it doesn’t mean everyone else is like him.” She tried to explain. She stepped closer to me and touched my arms. “I’m sorry, about everything, and the sudden engagement to West. We are going to get married soon, he’s different. If you give him that chance, you will get to know that he’s not like your father.”

“They can change. I don’t trust them.”

She blinked her eyes a few times. “It’s all my fault. I’m sorry.”

My wolf had been whimpering since the car ride because I had chosen to ignore the bond with her mate and shut her up.

“Mio won’t be able to get to you ever again.”

Mio Abbot was my father, and yet there was someone who reminded me of him, speaking of which, he strolled in, in a gray baggy pants, leather jacket, and a white undershirt. His hair was a bit messy like it hadn't been combed. He had a cross bag over him.

His room was just right opposite mine, he kissed Mom on both cheeks, and walked down to his door, not even a glance at me.

He ignored me, like I wasn’t there, and my wolf had jerked up just as the scent of him, she was purring.

“I thought you were home,” Mom said when he held the door knob.

“I had to take care of something, and couldn’t come home directly.” He replied.

“Eris was about to tell me who she found as her mate.” Mom said with smiles on her face.

He turned, and his eyes caught mine, I darted my eyes away from him and fixed them on Mom’s.

“So who is your mate, Eris?”

“Kasper,” I muttered.

“Kasper?” She raised a brow.

“He’s a good kid.” I nodded.

“Invite him to dinner, let's get to know him.” She smiled, rubbed my arms, and turned to Ocean. “What about you Ocean, did you find your mate?”

He took a long glance at me, those looks held something in them that I couldn’t decipher, then he shook his head. “No. Vale. I haven’t found her yet.”

“…you didn’t have to come.” I said while I held the front door against Kasper, he was in black jeans and a blue sleeve, and a black sneakers. He looked a bit nervous with those tiny beads of perspiration forming against his forehead. “I had to, your mom invited me, and I wanted to make a good first impression on her.” He tried to smile, his lips were quivering, I folded my arms and watched him. “Are you sure you’ll be fine?” He cleared his throat. “I can manage.” He took in a deep breath, and let it out slowly. “That kinda helped.” He chuckled and nodded at me. I moved away so he could get into the house, and he walked in. “This is my first time in the Alpha’s mansion or getting this close to Ocean.” I heard him mumble while I led him to the dining area, and he followed closely. “This is Kasper.” I introduced him to everyone when I faced them. Mom stopped up from her seat and went to hug him, her hand patted his back sweetly. “You are always welcome here, Kasper.” She muttered

“Can you at least help? If you ain’t going to, go back to your room and stop intruding?” Ocean glared at me, he was dropping the act of being nice each time we were alone. I grabbed a box and headed towards the car, the Alpha will be driving to the Pack house, and the preparation of the mating ritual will take place there. “You don’t have to do that okay?” Alpha West said and took the box from my hand, he placed them on the car booth. “You can sit in the pack, we will take the rest of it.” I nodded and went to sit in the car, plugged my AirPods on, and started a random song. Someone took it off my ear. “You’re something else, Iris.” “Do you have a problem with me?” I took back my AirPods from his hand. “Your father wanted me to sit out.” “And you did?” “Obeying the words of the Alpha, got a problem with that?” I put back the AirPod and glanced at the window. Alpha West got into the car with Mom, and they were smiling at each other. I shook my head and turned away from the

“…so you told your new family about me?” “Eris, they are helping us.”I snorted. “They are helping you.” I was staring dumbly at the uniform on my bed. “So I’ve to go to this new school.” “You’ve to finish High school, I talked with West, and he helped me to get you into this school, no other school would have accepted you.” She stresses, she was seated in my bed. “You didn’t come downstairs for dinner, and you didn’t eat breakfast with us either. You can’t keep doing this, Eris. It’s not what I want for you.” “Mom, stop. You want me to go to the school, I will go.” She smiled now. “Hurry up, I will pack some breakfast for you, you can get a ride with Ocean.” “I don’t want that. Give me a ride instead.” She nodded with a smile. “I will, honey.” Got up from the bed and placed a kiss on my cheek. Since I was eight, it had always been mom and I, and that was as long as I can remember. I hated that she hid the fact that she was seeing another man, that she had fallen in love and

The drive was quiet, I said nothing to her while I was sulking on my seat and she said nothing to me. Her hands were clenched tight on the steering wheel. “So you’re not going to say anything? Why are you acting this way!” She snapped. “Why?” I asked, breaking the prolonged silence. “I just found out that you are getting married! And now we are leaving the pack, it only seems as if we are running away!” I said at the top of my voice. “And you?” She asked. “You were expelled from school, Eris. No other school in the pack could accept you, you’re in your 12th grade!” She hit her fist on the wheel and exhaled. “And you hid that from me, if I hadn’t called the school to ask about you, and they told me you got expelled, I would have never known.” “That’s different.” I rolled my eyes. “How?” “You are getting married to someone that I had no idea of and now we are leaving the pack.” “We don’t have a choice. You need to go to school somewhere else, and the pack will accept us.” “Wh
