Sinclair's castle was the safest place to go.

I was grateful for that. It was quiet in there, and I needed it after today. I had spent so long surrounded by screams that I could almost hear them echo in my mind.

The difference between knowing I was in danger and coming face to face with it was heavy. It was especially hard to swallow that Aunt Sarah had to leave because of it.

I stood in the middle of the sitting room and looked at the three men who had brought me home.

Sinclair's castle was the safest place to go.I was grateful for that. It was quiet in there, and I needed it after today. I had spent so long surrounded by screams that I could almost hear them echo in my mind. The difference between knowing I was in danger and coming face to face with it was heavy. It was especially hard to swallow that Aunt Sarah had to leave because of it.I stood in the middle of the sitting room and looked at the three men who had brought me home.Emmett had dropped onto one of the couches, his face scrunched in pain.Rafe stood near the window, staring outside cautiously.Sinclair remained near the doorway, his clothing still stained with blood.None of them said anything.I looked at Emmett first. He was rubbing the side of his neck, his jaw tense. I walked towards him and sat down."Where does it hurt?" I asked. His eyes moved toward me. "I'm fine.""That was not my question."He gave me a faint smile. "I should be nursing you, you know. Not the other way aro

The hospital had finally gone quiet. Not exactly silent. There were still soft voices in the distance, people trying to pick themselves up and help those who couldn't.But the screaming and panic were gone. The rogues were no longer a threat. Those who managed to run did. The rest lay still on the floor, no longer breathing.Somehow, I was still alive. We all were.I rushed over to Aunt Sarah, who was struggling to sit up on the sofa she had been shoved on to. I wrapped my arms around her neck, embracing her tightly. Her body was shaking as she pulled me close, her tears wetting my shoulder.I looked around, my eyes landing on Rafe and Emmett, who were back in their human forms and dressed in clothes Duke had handed them. Rafe slumped on the sofa across us, his eyes closing. Emmett ran a hand through his hair, grimacing in what looked like pain.My gaze moved to Sinclair, who looked completely fine. His white shirt was covered in blood as he slipped his coat off, but it was clear that

The footsteps stopped directly in front of the cabinet."Will you come out, or must I drag you out?" The voice asked darkly.Aunt Sarah's fingers tightened around mine, and I held my breath. Our silence didn't make any difference. The rogue was well aware that we were in there. We needed a plan."Fine then," he sighed. The handle shook as he placed his hand on it, and with one effortless pull, the door was ripped open.I recoiled, my back pressing against the wood of the cabinet. My eyes widened as I met the pitch-black stare of the rogue. His clothes were torn and filthy, his hair tangled, and his skin looked as though he hadn't properly washed in days. But it was his smell that made my stomach turn.Something wild and unwashed. He smiled widely. "Found you."Aunt Sarah immediately stepped in front of me.The rogue laughed, his eyes moving around the tiny storage room. "Don't worry. I'm not here to hurt you. Well... not yet anyway."My heart pounded. "What do you want?" He looked at

"This is an attack."Emmett's words sent my heart in a frenzy. An attack? On me? In a hospital? There had to be another explanation.I looked up at him, his silver eyes glowing in the darkness of the room. "How do you know this is an attack?"Emmett looked toward the door. "Well—"A scream came from somewhere outside, interrupting him. I froze, and Aunt Sarah grabbed my arm tightly, pressing her body against mine. Emmett blinked. "That's how I know."Another scream made me flinch, and before I knew it, people were shouting in the hallway, voices overlapping in the panic.Emmett's grip tightened around my body as he started walking. "We're moving.""Where?" I whispered. He didn't answer, his eyes focused somewhere across the room.He dragged me and Aunt Sarah toward a small storage cabinet built into the wall. It was barely large enough for the three of us.Sarah immediately shook her head. "No way I'm getting in there. I'm still recovering from surgery. I shouldn't even be walking."

"I don't know who you are."The words didn't even sound real. I stood beside my aunt's hospital bed, unable to move. For a few seconds, neither of us said anything.I looked into her eyes, glossy with tears, hoping that somehow she'd take it back. She didn't."Aunt Sarah..." I started softly. She shook her head. "Don't. I don't want to hear it."My throat tightened. "I know you're angry, but I can explain.""Angry?" A bitter laugh escaped her. "That's an understatement."She ran her hands over her face. "You promised me you wouldn't do this. I begged you not to go there."I looked down. "I had to. You know that."She stared at me in disbelief. "I went there because you needed surgery," I explained. "I couldn't sit and watch you die."Her expression changed slightly. "You could have found another way.""What other way?""Anything but giving yourself to those monsters!" She snapped. I looked towards the door, noticing it was shut. I really hoped Emmett wasn't listening to this. She s

Rafe Voss' POV♡I waited until Yasmin and Emmett were gone before I started looking around. I knew that I should have left with her, and I realized that choosing to stay while she went to see her aunt might have hurt her feelings, but this was also important.I watched quietly as Sinclair left the dining room, his eyes on his phone. He tapped on the screen for a few seconds before placing it on his ear. When his footsteps were far enough to sound quiet, I took the opportunity. There was something about him that didn't sit right with me. He had known Yasmin for barely a week, yet he'd already risked his position, his reputation, and possibly the stability of his entire clan for her.I would be a fool to ignore that. The first few rooms I searched were useless. A library. A study. A sitting room.Nothing suspicious. No secret meetings. No strange equipment. No hidden records about Yasmin.I checked the study next.Books lined the walls, most of them concerning vampire history, treati
