Chapter 2

                                                                         Mason

Once we had finished unloading everything from the trunk, my mom and Nate went out to go and grab something to eat for dinner, meanwhile, I was focused on organizing my room. I’d gotten through most of the boxes, and was working on putting my books away when my mom and Nate got back with food. Nate took to staying in the living room while my mom sat down on my bed and gave me my food.

“Alright, Mason, before I go mingle with Nate, I wanted to talk to you for a bit about school before you go to bed and leave tomorrow.”

“I will listen wholeheartedly, so long as you promise to never say ‘mingle with Nate’ ever again. I don’t need to know the details of your personal life, Mom.”

“Okay, Kiddo,” She said as I started eating my fries, “So, I already told you that this school won’t be like the schools that you’ve been to before, as you probably had guessed by the name.”

“Yeah, ‘Blood Moon High’ definitely sounds like a perfectly normal school. So, what’s the catch about it?”

“Well, your classes have already been set up, you’re just going to need to pick up your schedule and learn your way around the place. The reason it’s not an ordinary school is that the principal of the school, and the school district as a whole, work for the local Werewolf Pack. There’s quite a few, don’t get me wrong, but this one pretty much runs at least half of the town,” She said while eating her food, I’d heard of werewolf packs before but I didn’t there was one here, “You shouldn’t have any issues there, they mostly stick to themselves from what I’ve heard. Just don’t look for trouble, I know with your sarcasm people might see you as an easy target.”

“I will, though I can’t promise I won’t be sarcastic at all,” I said before my mom laughed and got up to leave, “If I don’t see you before I leave for school tomorrow, have a nice day tomorrow, I love you.”

“I love you too, Mason, Sleep well, And don’t cause a riot at school.”

I laughed at her saying that before she closed the door behind her and left me to myself. I laid down on my bed and went to sleep thinking about how things would go at school the next day. At the schools I had been to before, I was the quiet kid that didn’t talk to anyone because I didn’t want to attract any unwanted attention, even if it meant I didn’t have any friends. My father didn’t help in that regard, seeing as whenever I brought up a problem I was having at school he would just insult me before sending me off to bed.

Before I knew it I was being woken by my alarm, it was already 6:30 in the morning, and I had to start getting ready. I got out of bed and set my comforter back over my pillow before grabbing a set of clothes for the day. I threw my grey hoodie on with a pair of black jeans and boots, before packing my books and other school supplies in my bag. I left my room and headed downstairs to see Nate in the kitchen making breakfast.

“Heading to school?”

“Yeah, is mom still here or did she leave for work?”

“She left for work already, I’m grabbing some grub before heading back upstairs to my office and getting to work myself,” He said while making some eggs, “Have fun at school, and your mom told me to let you know she’ll pick you up from school if she gets off work in time.”

“Alright, thanks Nate, have a nice day,” I said before leaving the house and heading out to the street corner where the bus was supposed to pick me up, “This is going to be interesting, one way or another.”

The bus rounded the corner, coming to a stop as I reached the street corner and opened the door for me to get on. I thanked the bus driver before sitting down in the empty seat I saw before the bus driver set off towards the school. If there was one thing I got right, it was my presumption about the other students, they were public school kids. Aside from the oddballs that kept to themselves, the majority of the students were singing along to music on the radio, bouncing in their seats, vaping, and doing everything that was against the bus rules. One of the kids moved from their seat and sat next to me, he was a walking stereotype of the high school jock.

“Hey, dude, how ya doing?”

“Little tired, little bored, you know, High schooler things,” I said as I moved my bag for him to have more room, “What brings you to my neck of the woods, huh?”

“You’re new here, aren’t you?” He asked with a curious look about him, he didn’t seem like the douchebag type, but he was a jock; He wore a school jacket with a football patch on it, over a tank top and plain blue jeans.

“Is it that obvious?”

“Just a bit, don’t worry though, you’ll be fine so long as you don’t cause any drama. Oh, and if you’re open to advice, avoid the Gordon Twins; You’ll be better off that way,” He said before getting up and moving back to his seat before I could ask who the Gordon Twins were.

‘Who the hell are the Gordon Twins?’ I thought as the bus pulled up to the school, and my question to nobody was answered.
