LOGINAmanda's POV
“No! You belong to me!” Duncan yelled, his voice cutting through the air. His eyes were pale, lids barely open, a sign that he was still suffering from the weakness my rejection caused.
I sat there, too stunned to speak and too weak to even move. How could the alpha king be my mate? Why would the moon goddess choose to do such a thing to me?
An ordinary alpha couldn’t accept an omega as his Luna, how much more the alpha king. Shifting into a sacred white wolf should have given me some courage but it didn’t.
He held Duncan’s gaze in an obvious challenge but of course Duncan knew more than to be stubborn or try to fight the alpha king. Even the guards stepped aside, heads bowed in reverence and unable to meet his gaze.
“She doesn’t belong to you…” he said, his voice firm but ironically as soothing as a balm. “She’s my mate.” He stated, leaving no room for arguments.
Duncan’s face twisted in a scowl caused solely by the words he couldn’t say, no one dared to go against the alpha king. What was even more satisfying was how helpless he looked at the thought of me slipping away from his grasp after his desperate attempt to stop me from escaping.
My eyes shifted from him to the king who stood at my side, his eyes searching and gaze filled with unspoken tension.
He stretched his hand towards me. “Shall we?” He asked. I watched him, my mind reeling with uncertainty but anything was better than staying at the Moonstone pack with Duncan and Kattie.
I took his hands and pulled myself up, forcing my legs to hold me while Duncan watched us keenly, jaw tight and fury written all over his face like he expected me to refuse.
My knees gave out before I was fully upright. I hit the ground hard, the impact knocking the air from my lungs.
The river. I could still feel it cold in my bones and heavy in my limbs like it had soaked into my muscles and refused to let go.
I wasn’t steady yet, not after that fall into the water and the ground reminded me of that fast.
“Can’t you see how weak she is? You don’t need her, my king.” Duncan said, his voice cracking. “The alpha king deserves someone worth more than a wolf-less omega, someone that can actually produce strong heirs for the throne.” He added, like he didn’t see me shift earlier.
I knew he was doing all that just so the alpha king would reject me.
“King Ambrose?” Duncan pressed on.
But with one swoop, I was lifted off the ground and into the strong arms of the King. My pulse quickened, my heart ramming against my chest as he walked away, completely ignoring Duncan and his claims.
He walked through a narrow path while I stayed still, too scared to talk or make a sound.
At the foot of the path, a landscape of buildings both old and new, trees and fields unwinded. I didn’t need anyone to tell me that we’d reached the Alpha King’s territory.
“I can walk.” I muttered, my voice barely louder than a whisper.
He immediately dropped me to the ground like he couldn’t wait to do so.
We walked into one of the buildings, tall walls, long ceiling to floor windows through what I believed was the back exit because there was no one in sight.
I followed him closely until the hallway led to a bigger hallway with doors I believed had rooms behind them.
A young maid ran up to him immediately, her head bowed and glued to the ground. “Your majesty.” She said, her voice breathless.
He turned to me, his gaze so piercing I quivered under its scrutiny and then he returned to the maid. “Provide a dress for her and bring her to the throne room immediately.” He ordered and she flinched as his words.
Someone flinched just from the sound of his voice.
That alone set off a thousand warning bells in my head and I wondered, with a twist in my stomach, if I'd walked straight into the lion’s den.
I followed the maid to one of the rooms and as soon as the door closed behind us, she hurried off to a wardrobe at the far end of the room and pulled out a black sundress.
“Quick, we can’t keep him waiting.” She ordered, her voice dripping with panic.
I was exhausted but I had no other choice and I couldn’t wait to get it all over with and at least get some rest after the series of unfortunate events I’d been through in just one day.
I put on the dress as quickly as I could, it was a bit loose but not nearly as bad as the old dresses I owned while I slaved away at Duncan’s pack, blinded by a one sided affection.
The maid led me to the throne room, her footsteps clicking away on the floorboards while I struggled to keep up with her pace.
King Ambrose was seated in his mighty throne when we got there, a few guards behind him and a man perhaps over twenty standing at his side.
It felt like I had been summoned for an execution.
The maid bowed and left after successfully delivering me and I’d never felt so alone.
“What’s your name?” The king asked, his voice firm.
I took a deep breath shaking away the nerves I got from the weight of his gaze. “Amanda..” I paused, clearing my throat. “Amanda Patrick.” I replied.
“And you’re from the Moonstone pack?” He continued.
I nodded in agreement.
He let out a growl, exchanging a quick glance with the man at his side before continuing.
“Amanda, I have no use for you. I am the alpha king and we both know I can’t have a wolf less omega as my Luna, that’ll be an insult to the throne.” He pointed out.
Where have I heard this before? That’s right, from Duncan.
My lips parted but I couldn’t find the right words to say. I couldn’t even protest to the fact that he called me wolf less because my wolf has been quiet and it was almost like I imagined the whole thing.
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t reach her.
“I wasn’t looking for a mate, but for the fact that the moon goddess has fated us together then I have no other choice but to keep you here.” He pressed on. “It’ll be a wise choice if you bring whatever expectations you have to nought, you are not my Luna.”
Was I about to be subjected to the same life I just escaped? The same life of waiting o
n a man that would never see me.
What did I ever do to deserve this from the moon goddess?

Thor's POVLady Jane is someone I despised even more each time I saw her. And I hate that she parades herself around the castle like it belonged to her, like she didn’t reject King Ambrose for another man only to come running back like the world was hers. I remember how much the king suffered from this. The effect of the rejection tore him to shreds and just when he was recovering, just when he was starting to find something new she thinks she can ruin it. The news of her missing family heirloom was a ruse no doubt and so during the search, I kept my eyes on her the whole time. Following her every move and noticing the changes in her body language. Soon she spotted something in the grass, I stood behind a tree and watched her cover it up with leaves. After she left, I stepped out of my hiding and walked up to where she stood and there in the cold dirt lay Lady Amanda. “That vile woman.” I whispered but I knew better than to raise an alarm. If she was found at that moment, she woul
Ambrose's Pov As I got closer to the gates of my territory, a different kind of wind settled on my body and I let out a soft sigh. The castle was oddly quiet. Not that there used to be any noise before now, just that I felt a difference in the air. Darkness was creeping in faster and all I wanted was to freshen up and have dinner immediately. “Welcome his majesty, Alpha Ambrose!” Thor announced as I climbed out of the carriage and every servant halted, lowering their heads until I could see the center of each head. “Thank you Thor…” I muttered, patting his shoulder before handing him my coat. “Is dinner ready?” I asked the moment I walked in and the house keeper walked up to me. “Yes, your majesty.” She said and stepped aside. I went up to my room and had a quick cold bath before returning to the dining room. The sweet aroma of food watered my mouth and I dropped into my chair, diving into my meal without wasting any time. Halfway into dinner, I noticed the hall felt empty fo
Amanda's POVI turned into the majestic white wolf. The same one I thought had deserted me for good, it was there and I’d never felt more glorious. The rogues froze in place, their eyes wide with shock. Of course they knew what it meant to be a white wolf and I took a minute to relish in their surprise and disappointment. “I thought she was meant to be wolfless!” The leader growled, his voice cracking on the last word.No one responded, they were all too busy looking at me realizing they had made a mistake.“We must complete the mission, white wolf or not.” He spat. They were still going to kill me, I had to make a run for it. The leader’s voice cut through the silence and straight into my bones while I stood there thinking of a way out. “No one runs,” he barked, eyes locked on me. “She doesn’t leave here alive.” He added, taking a step closer. He dropped his head low, shoulders rolling. His body and bone muscle shifted under his skin with a wet, brutal sound that made my stomach
Amanda's POV I could hear the buying and snarling of their teeth as they surrounded me. I turned around, desperate for a chance to flee but there was no way out. They surrounded me. With the part of my sanity that wasn’t clouded by fear, I counted about seven of them. Three to my right, two to my left, one in front and the last one at the back. “What do you want?!” The words ripped out of me and sent birds running from their shelter in the trees. Immediately, a branch cracked from one of the bushes beside me and I quietly turned towards it.There he was. Stepping out from behind the thick bush like he’d been there waiting. He had a thick scar dragging across his forehead, pale against his skin. His arms were mapped with bruises both old and fresh ones, all of them telling stories he hadn’t said out loud.Normal features you’d expect from rogues but I wanted to know why I’d been set up and what the hell was happening. He didn’t answer. Just stood there, eyes locked on mine, lik
Ambrose's POVIt took us about an hour to reach the council territory after the messengers left. An hour of silence, dust, and the worst ride to a complete waste of my time. “Silliest news ever” barely described it. Thor rode beside me, jaw tight. Our four-man convoy kept a fast pace behind us, but none of us spoke. As we approached, the council walls rose in the distance, tall and unwelcoming and with every step closer my stomach twisted tighter as I desperately tried to keep my anger in check. The carriage rode to a stop and I climbed down, my patience already wearing thin. “Fetch some food and water for the horses, it was a long ride.” I ordered the four men. “Yes, your majesty.” They chorused, getting to work immediately. Thor walked closely behind me as I made way for the meeting room. He would not be let in but still he chose to follow me anyway, and that was what true loyalty meant. I reached the massive wooden doors and even before I touched them, voices leaked through
Amanda's POV Just like Duncan threatened, at the crack of dawn two carriages came in while I was having my morning walk in the courtyard, bearing the seal from the council. Emily and I exchanged glances, my heart dropping into my stomach. Why does Duncan want to make my life more miserable than it already is?“Do you want to go and see what they’re here for?” Emily suggested but I shook my head almost immediately. Five men came down and Thor welcomed them at the entrance, the look on their faces told me that they hated to be here. “I’ve strolled enough, I need to freshen up.” I said to Emily and she bobbed her head slightly. “Go on and run my bath. I’ll meet up with you later..” She walked away without another word while I headed stealthily towards the throne room. My stomach grumbled from hunger but I ignored the mouth-watering aroma from the dining room and pressed my ear against the large door. “Greetings, Alpha Ambrose!” One of them started, “I’m sure you’re aware of who we
Amanda's POVAfter spending most of the morning locked up in my room, I decided a walk in the garden was just what I needed. But as I was about to walk through the throne room, I heard the words I never thought I would ever hear. “I’m here for my mate.” I’d recognize that voice anywhere. But what
Ambrose's Pov The kingdom stretched out below me, all movement and noise, people going about their lives with the kind of careless ease I hadn't known in years, maybe ever. I kept my back to the throne room and watched them through the tall windows. Merchants, soldiers and children running between
Amanda's POV I woke to bright light filtering in through the windows I usually never forget to close. Thin, gold rays cut across the room and found my eyes before I was ready for them. I pried them open, slow and gritty from sleep and my hand lifted on instinct immediately shielding my gaze. T
Amanda's POV Our eyes stayed locked together for a second more and I quickly looked away, while forcing my hand out of his grip. To my surprise, he let go. I stormed out of the dinning room and back to my room hoping to ignore the heat and its embarrassment.“I just need to sleep.” I whispered, tr
