He laughed, his eyes twinkling with mirth. "Of course I am. What did you think I was?"

"A werewolf!" I gestured at him helplessly. "Your skin is so perfect and you act so regal. Plus you move like... like you belong here."

He shrugged. "I've been working here since Asher's father was King," he said. "The former King saved my wife and children from a terrible situation. I owe this family everything."

I was unable to believe the Westgates were capable of anything good. "They're not as good as you think. Asher is-"

"Complicated," Gerald interrupted gently. "Yes but not terrible. You'll understand eventually."

He took the broken pieces from my hands and placed them on the tray along with the rest of the mess.

Then he patted my head. "Don't change, Louisa. You're like a comet, stay like that."

He handed me the tray of broken things and walked away, leaving me standing there confused.

A comet? What did that even mean?

I cleaned up the spilled tea and went back to the kitchen to make another

"And that's why understanding the Treaty of Silver Moon is crucial to comprehending modern wolf-human relations," Professor Hayes was saying, pacing at the front of the classroom. "The compromises made during that period still affect our societal structure today."I scribbled notes furiously, trying to capture everything when the bell rang loudly.Professor Hayes closed her book with a snap. "We'll continue from here next week. Read chapters four through six for homework."The moment she stepped out of the classroom, it felt like a dark cloud was removed immediately. Students jumped up from their seats, grabbing their bags and talking loudly. Within seconds, people were streaming toward the door.I sat there, confused. What was happening? Was class over for the day?I turned to the boy beside me, the one who had shifted his desk away earlier. "Excuse me, where is everyone going?"He slipped on headphones and walked out without even glancing at me.I looked around, surprised to see th

We arrived at the Academy together, and the moment the car stopped, Stanley was the first one out.He strolled through the entrance without a word, not even a glance back but I didn't mind. I was too busy staring up at the building with wonder.I was actually here as a student.I looked down at my uniform and how everything fit perfectly, even the fabric felt expensive against my skin.It felt surreal, like I might wake up any second and find out this was all a dream."Are you coming?"I blinked. Kassie stood a few feet away, waiting for me. She looked different today, almost... friendly?"Yes, sorry." I hurried to catch up with her.We walked through the main entrance together. Students streamed past us in every direction, all wearing the same uniform but somehow making it look unique. Some had their blazers unbuttoned while others had rolled up their sleeves."I can show you to your classroom," Kassie offered. "Since it's your first day."I looked at her suspiciously. "That's... ni

ASHER’S POVI held the phone to my ear, staring out the window of the manor as Mark's voice crackled through the speaker. From somewhere in the distance, I could hear the faint sounds of the household stirring to life."The villages are getting restless," Mark was saying, there was a faint rustling in the background. "The treaty's birth rate restriction is causing more trouble than we anticipated. There was another fight in the eastern square yesterday and three humans were hospitalized."I pinched the bridge of my nose, letting out a slow breath. "How bad?""Bad enough that the council is demanding we revisit the terms.""No." I scowled. "They were the ones that asked for it in the first place, revisiting it would only make me look bad" I turned from the window, pacing the length of the balcony. “What you need to do is address their concerns publicly. I want you to release a statement explaining why the reduction in birth rates ensures sustainability for them and for us."There wa

I was bringing Asher's lunch to his study, my arms aching from carrying the heavy tray.A yawn escaped my mouth as I walked. I had barely slept the past three nights because every time I closed my eyes, I saw the training ground or heard Jason's dismissive voice. It was so agonizing that I would stay awake, or lie down on the cold floors, anything to keep my eyes from closing. Although, I was keeping up fairly well with my presence of acknowledging my loss… it was killing me on the inside. When I reached his study, I noticed the door was open a crack. I was about to knock when I heard voices inside."You can't just accept her now, Natalia." Asher said with a huff. "Why not?" Principal Natalia’s echoed and I frowned.. "The footage clearly showed we were the ones at fault."What was she doing here? And what were they talking about? I leaned forward, pressing my eyes to listen better. "Louisa has accepted her loss already," Asher interrupted. "She had moved on already. Doing this n

I woke up before dawn and my eyes were gritty and swollen from crying. For a moment, I just lay there staring at the ceiling theb I sighed and dragged a palm down my face. I forced myself to sit up and climbed down from the bed. No matter how terrible I felt, I couldn’t keep wallowing in self-pity. I was a maid now and that was I would ever be.“Might as well accept it.” I mumbled to myself as I stepped into the bathroom to shower.I felt numb as I dressed, pulling on the long stockings Yelena had given me. Then the French maid dress I still hated, the ruffles and bows felt ridiculous as always. But what did it matter anymore? This was my life now. I left my room and headed to the kitchen. The palace was quiet at this hour, most of the staff weren't up yet and it was good.I didn't want to see or talk to anyone. My legs carried me straight to the stove and I started building the fire to prepare Asher's morning tea. I was pulling out the herbs when Yelena's voice called from behind
