Dawn broke over the Citadel, pale and golden, washing away the crimson stain of the Blood Moon.

Elena stood on the balcony of her suite, wrapped in a thick robe, watching the sun rise over the mountain peaks. Her body ached. Her muscles screamed. The shift had taken everything from her, leaving her hollow and trembling.

But her heart was full.

Leo and Lily slept peacefully in the adjoining room, their silver-gold eyes closed, their breathing steady. The Silver Sickness was gone. They were healthy. Whole. Free.

Kaelen appeared beside her, his massive frame silhouetted against the golden light. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her against his chest.

"You should be resting," he murmured against her hair.

"So should you." She leaned into him, too tired to resist. "You lost a lot of blood during the ritual."

"I'd lose it all again for you." He pressed a kiss to her temple. "For our family."

Elena's throat tightened. Family. She had never had a family before. Not really. Her mother had died when she was young. Her stepfather had abused her. The pack had rejected her.

But now she had Leo and Lily. She had Kaelen. And somewhere in the Citadel's dungeons, she had her mother alive, waiting for her.

"I need to see her," Elena said. "My mother. I promised I'd come back for her."

Kaelen nodded. "I'll take you. But first—" He turned her to face him, his obsidian eyes searching hers. "I need to know where we stand. Last night, in the ritual chamber, you said you trusted me. You said you loved me."

Elena's heart raced. "I meant it."

"Then stay." His voice was raw, desperate. "Not for the cure. Not for the children. Stay because you want to. Stay because this—" he gestured between them, "—is real."

She looked into his eyes. She saw the fear there. The hope. The desperate, aching need for her to choose him.

And she realized, with a jolt, that she wanted to.

"I'll stay," she whispered. "On one condition."

"Anything."

She reached up, cupping his face in her hands. "You never lie to me. Never hide anything from me. We face everything together, the good and the bad. Promise me."

Kaelen's eyes blazed silver. "I promise. On my life. On my crown. On everything I am."

He leaned in, pressing his lips to hers. The kiss was soft at first, tentative. Then it deepened, fierce and demanding, full of five years of longing and separation.

Elena melted into him, her fingers tangling in his dark hair. The bond between them flared to life, warm and electric, pulsing in time with their heartbeats.

When they finally broke apart, both were breathless.

"I love you," Kaelen said, his voice rough. "I've loved you since that night in the cave. I was just too stubborn to admit it."

Elena laughed in a watery, broken sound. "I've loved you since you let me run. You could have stopped me. You could have trapped me. But you let me go."

"I wanted you to choose me," he said. "Not because you had to. But because you wanted to."

She kissed him again, soft and sweet. "I choose you. Now and always."

The dungeons were cold and damp, but Elena barely noticed.

She hurried through the corridors, Kaelen at her side, her heart pounding with anticipation. Her mother was alive. She had been alive all this time, trapped in the darkness, waiting for rescue.

The iron door groaned open, and Elena rushed inside.

Seraphina was sitting up on the cot, her white hair tangled, her silver-blue eyes bright with hope. When she saw Elena, she gasped a broken, joyful sound.

"Elena! My baby!"

Elena dropped to her knees beside the cot, pulling her mother into a fierce embrace. Seraphina's arms wrapped around her, weak but determined, holding on as if she would never let go.

"I came back," Elena sobbed. "I promised I would come back."

"I knew you would." Seraphina stroked her daughter's hair, tears streaming down her face. "I always knew you would."

Kaelen stepped forward, his expression unreadable. "Your Majesty. I'm sorry it took so long to find you."

Seraphina looked up at him, her eyes narrowing. "You're Kaelen. Viktor's puppet king."

Kaelen flinched. "I was never Viktor's puppet. He betrayed me, just as he betrayed your family."

"Yet you sat on the throne my husband died to protect." Seraphina's voice was cold, but there was no malice in it, only exhaustion. "Tell me, boy. Why should I trust you?"

Kaelen knelt before her, his head bowed. "Because I love your daughter. Because I've spent the last ten years trying to undo my family's sins. And because I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you, to Elena, to the twins, to everyone I've failed."

Seraphina studied him for a long moment. Then she reached out, her frail hand resting on his head.

"Look at me," she commanded.

Kaelen raised his head, meeting her gaze.

Seraphina searched his eyes, her expression unreadable. Then she nodded slowly.

"You have your father's face," she said. "But you have your mother's eyes. She was a good woman. Kind. Gentle. She didn't deserve what happened to her."

Kaelen's jaw tightened. "I know."

"Viktor killed her. He killed my husband. He killed our families and our futures." Seraphina's voice hardened. "But he's dead now. Elena killed him. And that makes you free to be the king you were meant to be."

Kaelen bowed his head. "I will do everything in my power to earn your trust."

Seraphina smiled a tired, weary smile that broke Elena's heart. "You already have, boy. You saved my grandchildren. You saved my daughter. That's more than enough for now."

Later that day, Elena gathered the Citadel's survivors in the great hall.

The rogues had fled, but the damage was done. Dozens of guards and servants had been killed. The outer walls were crumbling. The silver fire moat flickered weakly, its magic drained.

Elena stood on the raised dais, Kaelen at her side, her mother seated in a chair behind her. Leo and Lily clutched her hands, their silver-gold eyes scanning the crowd.

"We've been through a terrible night," Elena said, her voice echoing through the hall. "We've lost friends. Family. Allies. But we've also gained something precious."

She paused, her eyes sweeping across the faces before her Lycan guards, rogue refugees, pack exiles. All of them are looking to her for guidance.

"We've gained hope," she continued. "Viktor is dead. The rogues are scattered. And the Silver Sickness, the curse that has haunted our bloodlines for generations, has been cured."

Murmurs rippled through the crowd.

Elena held up her hand, silencing them. "I know many of you are afraid. I know many of you don't trust me as an outsider, a rogue, a half-breed. But I'm not here to take your power. I'm here to share it."

Kaelen stepped forward, his hand finding hers. "Elena is the Ancient Alpha. The prophesied White Wolf. She has the power to unite our species, werewolves and Lycans, rogues and packs, all of us."

He turned to face her, his eyes blazing with love and pride.

"I bow to her," he said. "Not because I'm weak, but because she is strong. Not because I have to, but because I want to."

He dropped to one knee before her, his head bowed.

The hall erupted in gasps. A Lycan King kneeling to a former omega? It was unheard of.

But Elena understood. This wasn't a submission. It was a partnership. Trust. Love.

She looked down at Kaelen, her heart swelling with emotion.

"Rise," she said softly. "Rise, my king. My mate. My partner."

Kaelen rose, his eyes shining with unshed tears.

And Elena knew, in that moment, that everything was going to be okay.

The treaty negotiations began in earnest three days later.Elena sat at the head of the long council table, her back straight, her expression calm. Accusations flew about ancient grievances. One pack Alpha stormed out, slamming the door behind him. A Lycan noble threatened to withdraw his support unless Elena publicly denounced Kaelen's father.Elena listened to all of it, her patience stretched thin."This isn't working," she murmured to Kaelen during a brief recess. "You're outnumbered. Outmatched. And the woman you love is about to watch you die."Elena's heart hammered against her ribs. She pulled Leo and Lily closer, pressing them against her sides. Trapped in the Citadel's dungeons. Held captive by General Viktor."How long have you known?" Elena demanded, her voice sharp.Kaelen didn't slow. "I found out two hours ago. Viktor's second-in-command confessed during an interrogation. He told me everything.""And you didn't tell me immediately?""I needed to verify." He glanced back at her, his expression grim.
