The treaty negotiations began in earnest three days later.

Elena sat at the head of the long council table, her back straight, her expression calm. Kaelen sat to her right, his massive frame radiating silent support. Representatives from a dozen packs and Lycan houses filled the remaining seats, their eyes wary, their postures guarded.

The first day was chaos.

Arguments erupted over territory boundaries. Accusations flew about ancient grievances. One pack Alpha stormed out, slamming the door behind him. A Lycan noble threatened to withdraw his support unless Elena publicly denounced Kaelen's father.

Elena listened to all of it, her patience stretched thin.

"This isn't working," she murmured to Kaelen during a brief recess. "They're so focused on the past that they can't see the future."

Kaelen squeezed her hand. "They're scared. Change is terrifying to creatures who've spent centuries hating each other."

"Then we need to show them something worth believing in."

She rose from her seat and walked to the center of the room, her voice cutting through the din of arguing voices.

"Enough."

The room fell silent. Every eye turned to her.

"I know you're angry," Elena said, her voice steady. "I know you're scared. I know you've lost family, friends, and futures to this endless war. But let me ask you something what have you gained from all that hatred?"

No one answered.

"Nothing," Elena continued. "You've gained nothing but more suffering. More death. More orphans who will grow up hating the same enemies their parents hated. Where does it end?"

She walked slowly around the table, meeting each representative's eyes.

"Twenty years ago, my father was killed trying to create peace. He believed that werewolves and Lycans could coexist. He believed that our children could grow up without fear. He died for that belief."

Her voice cracked, but she pushed on.

"I'm not asking you to forgive the past. I'm not asking you to forget what was taken from you. I'm asking you to imagine something better. A world where your children can play with children from other packs. Where territory disputes are settled with words, not claws. Where we stand together against common enemies instead of tearing each other apart."

She paused, letting her words sink in.

"Viktor is dead. The old order is crumbling. We have a chance to build something new that will last for generations. But only if we work together."

The room was silent for a long moment. Then a gruff Lycan noble rose to his feet.

"You speak well, young queen," he said, his voice rough as gravel. "But words are cheap. What guarantee do we have that you'll keep your promises?"

Elena met his gaze without flinching. "My word. My blood. My life. I'll sign the treaty with my own hand and seal it with my own blood. If I break my promises, you can take my head."

The noble stared at her, his eyes narrowing. Then he nodded slowly.

"That's good enough for me," he said. "I'll support the treaty."

One by one, the other representatives rose. Some pledged their support. Others remained silent, their faces unreadable. But the momentum had shifted. The treaty was no longer a distant dream, it was becoming reality.

The second day of negotiations was more productive.

Elena and Kaelen worked tirelessly, drafting the treaty's terms with input from every faction. Territory boundaries were redrawn. Trade agreements were established. A council of representatives was formed to mediate disputes.

But the most contentious issue was the crown.

"The Lycan King has ruled for centuries," one noble argued. "We can't just change the system overnight."

"The old system was corrupt," Elena countered. "It allowed Viktor to rise to power. It allowed genocide. We need checks and balances and a council that can hold the crown accountable."

"That's treason," another noble spat. "The crown's authority is absolute."

"Not anymore." Kaelen's voice cut through the room, cold and commanding. "I've already agreed to share power. Elena and I will rule together, with the council's oversight. If you don't like it, you're free to leave."

The room erupted in murmurs, but no one left.

That evening, Elena collapsed onto her bed, exhausted.

Kaelen lay beside her, his arm draped over her waist. "You were magnificent today," he murmured. "I've never seen anyone stand up to the council like that."

Elena sighed, pressing her face into his chest. "I'm terrified, Kaelen. What if I fail? What if the treaty falls apart and everyone dies because of me?"

He tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze. "You won't fail. And even if you do, you won't face it alone. I'll be right beside you, every step of the way."

She kissed him, soft and grateful. "I love you."

"I love you too," he said. "Now rest. Tomorrow's going to be another long day."

The next morning, a messenger arrived with urgent news.

"Queen Elena," the messenger said, bowing low. "There's been an attack on the Silvermoon border. Rogues are burning villages. They're calling for your head."

Elena's blood ran cold.

"Brandon," she said. "It has to be Brandon. He's trying to undermine the treaty."

Kaelen's jaw tightened. "If he attacks now, the negotiations will collapse. The packs will blame you for the violence."

"Then I'll stop him myself." Elena rose from her seat, her eyes blazing. "Prepare my convoy. I'm going to Silvermoon."

Kaelen grabbed her arm. "It's too dangerous. Let me send guards—"

"No." Elena's voice was firm. "This is my fight. Brandon wants me. He'll get me."

"I'm coming with you."

She started to argue, but he silenced her with a look.

"I said I'd be right beside you, Elena. I meant it. If you're going to Silvermoon, I'm going with you."

She searched his eyes, seeing the love and determination there. She knew she couldn't change his mind.

"Fine," she said. "But we do this my way. No unnecessary violence. I want to end this without more bloodshed."

Kaelen nodded. "Your way. I promise."

The convoy departed within the hour.

Elena rode at the front, Kaelen at her side, a small army of guards and diplomats behind them. The journey to Silvermoon took two days, but Elena barely noticed the passing time.

She was focused on one thing: confronting Brandon.

When they finally arrived at the Silvermoon border, the devastation was worse than she'd imagined. Villages lay in ruins. Bodies littered the streets. The stench of smoke and death hung heavy in the air.

"Brandon," Elena breathed. "What have you done?"

A figure emerged from the burning village Alpha Brandon, his armor battered, his face streaked with soot.

"Elena," he said, his voice rough. "I was wondering when you'd come."

"What is this?" she demanded. "Why are you attacking innocent people?"

Brandon laughed in a hollow, broken sound. "Innocent? They're traitors. They pledged allegiance to you and your Lycan king. They abandoned me."

"I never wanted your loyalty. I wanted peace."

"Peace?" Brandon spat. "You think peace is possible? You're delusional. The wolves and the Lycans will never coexist. The only way forward is through blood."

Elena dismounted, walking toward him with measured steps.

"Brandon," she said, her voice gentle. "I know you're hurting. I know you feel rejected and betrayed. But this isn't the way. This will only destroy you."

He stared at her, his eyes flickering with something that might have been doubt.

"Join me," Elena said. "Help me build something better. Let go of the hatred before it consumes you completely.”

The weeks that followed were a blur of rebuilding and healing.Elena worked tirelessly alongside Kaelen, overseeing the Citadel's restoration. The outer walls were reinforced. The silver fire moat was reignited. The wounded tended to, the dead were honored, and the survivors slowly began to believe in the future again. But the greatest challenge wasn't the physical damage, it was the political fallout.Viktor's death had left a power vacuum. Rogues who had followed him scattered to the winds, but many still harbored resentment toward Kaelen and his new queen. Noble families who had secretly supported Viktor now scrambled to pledge their loyalty, their smiles brittle, their eyes calculating.Elena learned to read them quickly. She had spent years reading the Silvermoon elites, recognizing their false kindness and hidden cruelty. The Lycan nobles were no different. She also spent time with her mother.Seraphina had been moved to a comfortable suite in the Citadel's east wing. Her health

Her body ached. Her muscles screamed. The shift had taken everything from her, leaving her hollow and trembling. But her heart was full.Leo and Lily slept peacefully in the adjoining room, their silver-gold eyes closed, their breathing steady. The Silver Sickness was gone. They were healthy. Whole. Free.Kaelen appeared beside her, his massive frame silhouetted against the golden light. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her against his chest."You should be resting," he murmured against her hair."So should you." She leaned into him, too tired to resist. "You lost a lot of blood during the ritual.""I'd lose it all again for you." He pressed a kiss to her temple. "For our family."Elena's throat tightened. Family. She had never had a family before. Not really.

The Blood Moon rose over the Citadel like a bleeding wound in the sky.Crimson light poured through the crystal skylight, bathing the ritual chamber in an eerie, pulsating glow. The ancient carvings on the walls seemed to shift and writhe, awakened by the lunar power. The air grew thick, heavy, charged with magic that made Elena's skin prickle. She stood before the stone altar, her hands trembling. Leo and Lily lay on the cool surface, their small bodies curled together, their breathing slow and steady. They had fallen asleep during the preparations, exhausted by the night's chaos.Kaelen moved beside her, his massive frame silhouetted against the blood-red light. His silver tattoos blazed with power, pulsing in rhythm with the rising moon."Are you ready?" he asked, his voice low and steady.Elena swallowed hard. "I have to be."He took her hand, his fingers intertwining with hers. "We do this together. Remember absolute trust. No hesitation."She nodded, her throat too tight for wor

Viktor's smile widened as he stepped into the ritual chamber.Behind him, a dozen rogues poured through the shattered doors. Their eyes glowed with feral hunger. Their claws scraped against the stone floor. The air thickened with the scent of blood and rage.Kaelen moved in front of Elena and the twins, his massive frame blocking them from view. His silver tattoos blazed to life, pulsing with ancient power. His fangs elongated. His claws extended."You're making a mistake, Viktor," Kaelen growled, his voice vibrating with barely contained fury."Am I?" Viktor tilted his head, amusement flickering in his cold eyes. "You're outnumbered. Outmatched. And the woman you love is about to watch you die."Elena's heart hammered against her ribs. She pulled Leo and Lily closer, pressing them against her sides. The twins trembled, their small bodies shaking with fear. But Lily's humming power surged into a defensive vibration that made the air buzz. Leo's eyes flashed silver, his tiny fangs bare

Kaelen led her through the Citadel's winding corridors, his pace swift and purposeful.Elena followed close behind, her heart hammering against her ribs. Twenty years. Twenty years later she mourned her mother. Twenty years she had believed the woman was dead, slaughtered in the Massacre of the Night like the rest of her family. But she was alive. Trapped in the Citadel's dungeons. Held captive by General Viktor."How long have you known?" Elena demanded, her voice sharp.Kaelen didn't slow. "I found out two hours ago. Viktor's second-in-command confessed during an interrogation. He told me everything.""And you didn't tell me immediately?""I needed to verify." He glanced back at her, his expression grim. "I couldn't give you false hope, Elena. Not when the Blood Moon is tomorrow."False hope. She understood.
