The weeks that followed were a blur of rebuilding and healing.

Elena worked tirelessly alongside Kaelen, overseeing the Citadel's restoration. The outer walls were reinforced. The silver fire moat was reignited. The wounded tended to, the dead were honored, and the survivors slowly began to believe in the future again.

But the greatest challenge wasn't the physical damage, it was the political fallout.

Viktor's death had left a power vacuum. Rogues who had followed him scattered to the winds, but many still harbored resentment toward Kaelen and his new queen. Noble families who had secretly supported Viktor now scrambled to pledge their loyalty, their smiles brittle, their eyes calculating.

Elena learned to read them quickly. She had spent years reading the Silvermoon elites, recognizing their false kindness and hidden cruelty. The Lycan nobles were no different.

She also spent time with her mother.

Seraphina had been moved to a comfortable suite in the Citadel's east wing. Her health was slowly improving, though the years of captivity had left their mark. She was frail, pale, and often exhausted. But her eyes sparkled with life, and her smile, rare and precious, made Elena's heart ache.

"I never thought I'd see you again," Seraphina said one afternoon, as they sat together in the garden. "After Viktor took me, I gave up hope. I prayed for death more times than I can count."

Elena squeezed her mother's hand. "I'm sorry I didn't find you sooner. If I had known—"

"Don't." Seraphina shook her head. "You were a child. A baby. You couldn't have saved me. But you saved my grandchildren. That's all that matters."

Elena looked across the garden, where Leo and Lily were playing with a litter of Lycan pups. The twins laughed, their silver-gold eyes bright, their cheeks flushed with health.

"You should see them shift," Elena said, a smile tugging at her lips. "Leo can turn his claws into weapons. Lily can heal a wound with a single touch. They're incredible."

Seraphina's eyes glistened with tears. "They have your spirit. And your courage." She paused, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Elena, there's something I need to tell you. About your father."

Elena's heart skipped. "What about him?"

Seraphina looked away, her gaze distant. "He wasn't just a warrior. He was a visionary. He believed that werewolves and Lycans could live in peace and that the old blood feuds could be healed. He was working on a treaty when Viktor attacked."

"A treaty?"

"Yes." Seraphina turned back to her, her eyes fierce. "He wanted to unite our species. To create a new kingdom where everyone was equal pack wolves, rogues, Lycans. He believed it was possible."

Elena's mind raced. "What happened to the treaty?"

"It was never signed." Seraphina's voice cracked. "Viktor found out about it and realized your father was a threat to the old order. He couldn't allow peace; it would have destroyed his power. So he slaughtered everyone involved and took me captive."

Elena felt a cold fury settle in her bones. Viktor had taken everything from her, her father, her mother, her childhood, her sense of belonging. And he had done it for power.

But Viktor is dead now. And his legacy of hatred was crumbling.

"Kaelen wants peace too," Elena said slowly. "He's been trying to undo his father's mistakes for years. Maybe maybe we can finish what my father started."

Seraphina's eyes widened. "You think it's possible?"

"I think it's necessary." Elena's voice was firm. "The supernatural world is fractured. Our people are divided. If we don't unite, we'll destroy each other."

Seraphina reached out, cupping her daughter's face in her frail hands. "You have your father's vision. And your mother's stubbornness." She smiled, tears streaming down her cheeks. "You're going to be a great queen, Elena. The greatest this world has ever seen."

Later that evening, Elena found Kaelen in his study, surrounded by scrolls and maps.

He looked up as she entered, his face lighting up with a warm smile. "You're glowing," he observed. "What happened?"

She crossed the room and perched on the edge of his desk. "I had a conversation with my mother. She told me about my father's treaty and his vision for uniting werewolves and Lycans."

Kaelen's expression grew serious. "I've heard rumors of that treaty. My father destroyed every copy he could find."

"I know." Elena reached out, taking his hand. "But I think we should try to rebuild it. Create a new treaty. One that honors my father's vision and your commitment to change."

Kaelen stared at her, his obsidian eyes searching hers. "That would be the most difficult undertaking of our lives. The nobles will resist. The rogues will attack. Many would rather die than accept peace."

"Then we convince them," Elena said. "We show them that unity is stronger than division. That love is stronger than hate." She squeezed his hand. "We do it together."

Kaelen was silent for a long moment. Then he pulled her into his arms, burying his face in her hair.

"You are the most extraordinary woman I have ever met," he murmured. "And I will follow you to the ends of the earth."

Elena laughed, wrapping her arms around him. "That's good. Because we have a lot of work to do."

The work began the next morning.

Elena and Kaelen called a council meeting the first of its kind in the Citadel's history. Representatives from werewolf packs, Lycan houses, and rogue territories were invited. Many refused to attend, suspicious of the new queen and her intentions.

But those who came were surprised.

Elena spoke with passion and conviction, laying out her vision for a united supernatural world. She acknowledged the pain of the past, the massacres, the betrayals, the centuries of hatred. But she also offered a path forward: a treaty that would guarantee equal rights, shared resources, and mutual protection.

"This won't be easy," she admitted. "There will be resistance. There will be violence. But if we don't try, if we let fear and hatred win, we will destroy ourselves. Our children will inherit a world of war and suffering. Is that what we want?"

The room was silent. Then, one by one, the representatives began to speak.

Some were skeptical. Others were hopeful. A few were openly hostile. But Elena listened to all of them, her heart open, her mind sharp.

By the end of the meeting, a fragile consensus had been reached. The treaty would be drafted over the coming months, with input from every faction. It would be signed at the next Blood Moon, one year from now.

It wasn't a complete victory. But it was a start.

That night, Elena lay in Kaelen's arms, her head on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart.

"We did it," she whispered. "We actually did it."

Kaelen pressed a kiss to her hair. "We took the first step. The journey is just beginning."

"I know." She tilted her face up to look at him. "But I'm not afraid. Not anymore."

He smiled, his fingers tracing lazy patterns on her back. "You amaze me, Elena. Every day, you amaze me."

She leaned up and kissed him, soft and sweet. "I love you."

"I love you too," he murmured against her lips. "More than you'll ever know."

The bond between them pulsed warm and steady, a constant reminder of their connection. Elena closed her eyes, letting herself drift into a peaceful sleep.

For the first time in her life, she was truly home.

The Silver Sickness was gone. They were healthy. Whole. Free.Kaelen appeared beside her, his massive frame silhouetted against the golden light. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her against his chest."You should be resting," he murmured against her hair."So should you." She leaned into him, too tired to resist. "You lost a lot of blood during the ritual.""I'd lose it all again for you." He pressed a kiss to her temple. "For our family."Elena's throat tightened. Family. She had never had a family before. Not really.

The Blood Moon rose over the Citadel like a bleeding wound in the sky.Crimson light poured through the crystal skylight, bathing the ritual chamber in an eerie, pulsating glow. The air grew thick, heavy, charged with magic that made Elena's skin prickle. She stood before the stone altar, her hands trembling. They had fallen asleep during the preparations, exhausted by the night's chaos.Kaelen moved beside her, his massive frame silhouetted against the blood-red light. His silver tattoos blazed with power, pulsing in rhythm with the rising moon."Are you ready?" he asked, his voice low and steady.Elena swallowed hard. Viktor's smile widened as he stepped into the ritual chamber.Behind him, a dozen rogues poured through the shattered doors. Their eyes glowed with feral hunger. Their claws scraped against the stone floor. The air thickened with the scent of blood and rage.Kaelen moved in front of Elena and the twins, his massive frame blocking them from view. His silver tattoos blazed to life, pulsing with ancient power. His fangs elongated. His claws extended."You're making a mistake, Viktor," Kaelen growled, his voice vibrating with barely contained fury."Am I?" Viktor tilted his head, amusement flickering in his cold eyes. "You're outnumbered. Outmatched. And the woman you love is about to watch you die."Elena's heart hammered against her ribs. She pulled Leo and Lily closer, pressing them against her sides. The twins trembled, their small bodies shaking with fear. But Lily's humming power surged into a defensive vibration that made the air buzz. Leo's eyes flashed silver, his tiny fangs bare

Twenty years later she mourned her mother. Twenty years she had believed the woman was dead, slaughtered in the Massacre of the Night like the rest of her family. But she was alive. Trapped in the Citadel's dungeons. Held captive by General Viktor."How long have you known?" Elena demanded, her voice sharp.Kaelen didn't slow. "I found out two hours ago. Viktor's second-in-command confessed during an interrogation. He told me everything.""And you didn't tell me immediately?""I needed to verify." He glanced back at her, his expression grim. "I couldn't give you false hope, Elena. Not when the Blood Moon is tomorrow."False hope. She understood.
