Chapter 6- You’re my wife

His cold words pierced me deeply where it hurt the most, while he had his arms around the other woman, his lover. My feet felt sore and my mind was confused and angry. My fear and confusion were imprinted on my face. I was trembling hard and my broken gaze refused to look away from Asher’s. “ What is the meaning of this?” My voice came out as a whisper, my voice totally betraying my emotions. “ I am your wife.” The words left my lips and I watched them shatter before Asher’s frosty gaze. But he didn't seem to care. That didn't matter to him. I felt so irritated and my earlier confidence suddenly dissipated into thin air. 

This is so wrong. I wasn't expecting this. When I had looked into Asher’s eyes back in the council hall, all I saw was a broken, lonely, and misery-filled man who was hiding behind the pretense of a ruthless beast. I had thought there was a soft side of him that he was hiding. But standing beside him now, staring at his lover, I began to doubt what I had seen in his eyes. 

Why would he be looking for a wife when he already has a lover in his castle? The hurt on my face was evident and my expression was plainly visible on my face. I watched as the woman smirked at me with a wicked glint in her eyes. She seemed so happy to be his concubine. 

The spark of jealousy within me was now roaring like an inferno but I tried hard to ignore the feeling of jealousy trying to consume me. I tried really hard, but I couldn't win against my emotions. I couldn’t control the anger and jealousy that had begun to crawl its venom inside me. And the pressure radiating from me seemed to roll off in thick waves. I clenched and unclenched my fists, taking deep breaths to steady my nerves, but it was becoming increasingly difficult for me to stand, my palms were sweaty and I pushed past Asher and his whore. I was reeling with anger. The jealousy within me was so strong that I could taste the bitterness in my mouth. I didn't sign up for this. 

The omega's eyes widened when they saw me approach them and they quickly pulled open the front door for me. I wasn't sure where I was heading, I didn't wait for Asher to guide me. I was furious with him, and the fact he didn't even come after me when I walked away made the pang of pain slice more through my heart. There was no single doubt that he preferred his mistress more than me. I fought hard against the tears wanting to emerge. I didn't want to seem so vulnerable so I kept walking until I reached a long stairway that was exquisitely designed and artfully decorated. I rushed to the stairs and before I could focus on my steps I lost my balance,  and before I could fall, firm hands gripped my arms, steadying me. I fell into his eyes and before the stranger could speak, a loud growl silenced the air. 

 “Kayla,”  Asher growled behind me, his voice was furious and I heard him swear lightly under his breath. I felt the temperature in the hallway suddenly rise and the lights seemed to flicker a bit as well. My gaze flitted to the mirror on the side and I saw Asher clenching his fist. 

His piercing gaze held me like a prisoner and I had no idea how to react. His eyes lowered distastefully on me in the arms of the stranger. The man trembled and quickly removed his hands around me at the sight of Asher, and immediately scrambled away. For a sickening second, there was an eerie silence, and Asher was casting a murderous glare at me. What did I do now? He was the one who had just introduced his lover to me and now he was staring daggers at me. 

I ignored him and tried to take another step but his hands circled my waist and slammed my body into his hard frame, his hot breath fanned my neck and my heart sizzled with heat. A wave of pure ecstasy tore through me at the sudden intimate contact. He pushed himself forward a tad bit and brushed his lips against my earlobe. A spark of electricity coursed through me at the touch and I shivered. My eyes fluttered close as his deep masculine scent of mint and citrusy clouded my vision and mind. I felt a rush of adrenaline shoot through my skin, all my nerves tingle with prickly heat, and my heart began to thud wildly against my ribcage. I tried to control my ragged breathing to make it slow and even and to relax to his touch. I felt all the stress and worries of the day slip away and all I could focus on was Asher’s hands caressing my waist.

Why was I not feeling revolted by his touch, after knowing he has a mistress that warms his bed? I didn't know the answer to this. His hands held my waist firmly as his fingers began to draw slow circles on my body. My legs began to tremble and I felt my hands grow clammy as I began to sweat. My mind exploded into a thousand fragments trying to keep up with all the emotions inside me. I felt liquid heat burning inside me, starting from my waist and traveling to every single nerve in my body, electrifying it. He slowly pulled my back towards him in a way that my ass was pressed up against his front while his lips trailed down, kissing my earlobe and softly biting into my earlobe, making me hiss through my teeth. 

“ You are my wife now Kayla, you belong to me, and nobody else. Never forget your place,” He growled and to my body’s disappointment, he let me go as quickly as he had held me.
