{Dominic}

It had only been a few days since Evangeline came back into my life, and already I was counting them like precious stones in a vault. I guess a part of me feared that the universe might snatch her back if I wasn’t careful.

The gala had started as a simple idea. A whisper of celebration. Just a simple night to commemorate Evangeline’s return, but it had now become probably one of the most talked-about events here in Crownshaven.

But I didn’t care, I was going to give her back her crown, whether she wanted it or not.

The old Evangeline would’ve hated the spectacle. She would’ve probably begged me to call it off and release a press statement instead, but she had changed, considerably so. And I knew, deep down, that she wanted the world to see her, and to know she had survived everything they said she wouldn’t.

I hadn’t been to a gala since the one where I first laid eyes on her. And yet, here I was again, in an expensive black jacket, wearing diamond cufflinks while my heart t

    {Dominic}The laughter had started to dim, but the stars were out in full force, and for once.Reina and Ryker were the last to leave. He had muttered something about needing to be up early and walked out the door with his mate. Odessa and Isaac had left even earlier. Apparently, they had finally gotten bored with the grown-up talk and decided to head back into the house.We were the last ones left in the gazebo, and Evangeline was sitting beside me, wine glass in hand, head tilted toward the sky. The fairy lights made her skin glow like honey, and her eyes were slightly closed in satisfaction.She looked like she had been sculpted out of that night sky. “I remember when I first saw you on the yacht just staring at the sky,” she murmured, her gaze flickering to me, before going back up. “I never expected you’d take a liking to it,” I chuckled, glancing up as well. “It’s really beautiful, though, isn’t it?”“Yeah,” she said in a whisper, “It really is.”My fingers itched to reach for

    {Lyra}It was strange how my heart fluttered over something as simple as a “surprise.”Dominic didn’t give me much to work with, just that boyish smirk and that annoying, delicious mystery in his eyes. Honestly, I was too curious for my own good. What could he possibly pull off in just an hour? Then again… he was Dominic Bloodhound. That man could probably turn a field of weeds into a rose garden if he snapped hard enough.Isaac still hadn’t returned from wherever it was Regina had decided to take him and Odessa to, and so I had no one to talk my nerves out with. I headed back to the room alone, and as I turned the corner toward my door, I nearly bumped into Mirabel. She was humming, carrying what looked like folded towels, and her usual cheerful smile was plastered on her face.“Mirabel!” I called out, stopping her.She whirled around, and her eyes lit up. “My lady!” she gasped a little too excitedly, “Do you need anything?” I offered her a sheepish smile. “Actually, I was wondering

    {Dominic}I was already halfway down the hall with the tub of Rocky Road ice cream in my hand when I nearly collided with Mirabel as she exited my bedroom with her usual dramatic flair. She jumped slightly, then dipped into a bow with such speed I thought she might fold herself in half.“My lord,” she greeted breathlessly. “I’ve drawn your lady a bath and was just heading to inform the spa staff to prepare for her arrival.”I looked down at her, then glanced down at the melting tub of Rocky Road. For a moment, I imagined myself walking in there, handing her the ice cream, sitting beside her while she soaked in what I could only guess would be cucumber-scented bubbles, but something told me to let her breathe, she had been through so much already, she deserved to relax.“Good job,” I said instead, steadying my voice. “Take care of her, Mirabel. When she’s finished, let her know I’ll be in my study.”Mirabel gave a bright nod, but before she scurried off, I held out the tub. “And make s

    {Lyra}I never thought I’d have to lie to him like this, but I couldn’t dare speak the truth. Dominic sat across from me on the couch, watching me like a hawk stalking its prey.I folded my hands tightly in my lap and forced myself to meet his gaze. “During the Trial of the Moon, something strange happened.”He leaned forward slightly, focusing solely on me.“The moment I stepped into the Sacred Grove, I felt a strong pull.” I paused, trying to find the right words. “Then the Moon Spirit appeared, and she took me away.”Dominic’s brows furrowed, his lips parting as if he wanted to ask something, but he let me continue.“She led me deeper into the woods. Far beyond where I thought the Grove ended. Then she simply told me to find my way back.”“She just left you?” Dominic asked gently.“Just like that,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt as alone as I did.”The memory of trees so dark and twisted they looked like they were carved from shadow still mad

    {Dominic}Her lips were flushed red, and my chest heaved as I stared at her, still tasting her on my tongue, still feeling her warmth pressed against my lap. Every nerve in my body begged for more, but she’d pulled away, and now her breath came fast and shallow.I knew the rules. According to the clause in our marriage contract, there couldn’t be any sexual intimacy between us, and after that night on the yacht, I swore to myself that I would wait two years just like she said, but how could I help myself when she was right there in front of me?Evangeline’s lips parted slightly, like she was about to say something, and it took everything in me not to pull her in again. All I wanted was just one more taste, one more second of her in my arms to make me feel whole again.“Regardless of what you want, Dominic…” Evangeline finally spoke, “We can’t.”“And why not?” “You know why,” she said sharply, averting her eyes. “It states in the contract that there is to be no sexual intimacy betwee

    {Lyra}We watched as Kael disappeared from our sights, then finally, I glanced at Dominic, noting how he smiled softly, then opened his arms. I couldn’t help myself anymore, and leaped into them without any hesitation.The second his arms wrapped around me, I melted. I took a deep breath to remind myself of his musky scent mixed with cedar. The slow rhythm of his heart against my cheek was all I needed to feel safe, after so long.I didn’t even have time to revel in the moment, I heard someone gasp behind me. “Evangeline?”I turned my head and saw Regina standing a few feet away with her hand pressed against her lips, and her eyes full of tears. Dominic finally let go of me, allowing me to face her properly.“Oh sweet Moon Goddess…” she sobbed, stumbling forward.I barely had time to get a word out when she crashed into me, nearly knocking me off my feet as she embraced me tightly.“I thought you were gone. I thought…” she broke off with a sob, burying her face in my neck.“I missed y

    {Lyra}[A day before the wedding]The second I left Isaac at the mall, I immediately made my way to the van. If what he’d told me was true about Dominic about to marry someone else, then I was already racing against the clock.There was only one place that held the kind of magic I needed now, and that was The Sacred Grove. The very same sacred ground where my Luna trials had taken place. And if I had any hope of stopping that wedding, then I was going to need more than just a voice—I needed the Moon Spirit herself.But the Sacred Grove wasn’t easy to find, not unless you’d been through the Luna Trials like I had, or at least been part of the crowd. Normally, the entrance to the forest where the Sacred Grove was would be heavily guarded by the guards in the Elder’s Villa, but luckily for me, thanks to the time I spent in that forest that day, I knew another way.I got into the van and began to make my way toward the edge of the next town, where the river bent in a curve around the for

    {Dominic}The words hadn’t even sunk in before the priestess turned her head toward Isaac. “You may speak.”But right as Isaac drew breath, Corvin’s voice cut through the silence. “Silence, boy!” His tone was fierce, but what made it worse was the look on his face, twisted, condescending, and utterly devoid of patience. “You no longer belong to this pack. Your sister is gone, and your ties to Bloodhound died with her.”The crowd murmured, and I itched to tell Corvin to shut up. But he wasn’t done yet.“You should be grateful we even allow you to breathe within our borders. But after this little stunt, I’ll make sure you’re removed from Bloodhound lands by dawn.”“That’s enough, Corvin. You don’t speak for me,” I took a step down from the altar. He turned to me, and his mouth twitched, “Alpha, with all due respect—”“No. You don’t get to talk about Isaac like he’s some stray. He’s my brother, blood or not, he’s my family. And that won’t change no matter who I marry.”Isaac managed a
