“Touch her and you're dead.” His voice cut through the cold, lonely night. Hazel, the daughter of a traitor of Golden Dawn was accused of murdering her mate, and is seen as an outcast, bullied by her pack members for a crime she didn't commit; her world couldn't get any worse. But when the Blood Moon Ball is held for the returning Alpha, Hazel is given a second chance. She is mated to the feared and ruthless Alpha; Xavier Dyon– a man with no interest in the mating bond, but something about Hazel just makes him think otherwise.

"Hazel! Hazel! Run!" the distressed voice of my mother rang in my ears. I opened my eyes to see mom's face pale white; a restless expression spread across her face.
"What's going on, mom?" She hurriedly put my clothes into a small bag.
Why are we packing?
“We have to go?“ She didn’t bother responding to my questions.
“What about Dad?“ I asked, but no answer followed; she was so focused on packing our things as quickly as possible.
I still found it difficult to process what was happening but joined her regardless. I have never seen her panic this way before, so it has to be urgent.
Just as we were about to leave, a knock was heard from the front door. Mom’s face immediately went dead at the sound.
“I know you’re in there, Rose; do yourself a favor and surrender,” the voice spoke.
Mom’s face searched the room before finally landing on the basement door. “Go in there, Hazel,” she said, pushing me. “Don’t open the door no matter what, okay?”
“What’s going on, mom?” I couldn’t just run and hide. “Tell me,“ a tear almost escapes my eyes. “Where’s Da—?”
Before I could say another word, the door flung open, revealing the large men. Mom immediately pushed me into the basement.
“Lock the door and stay quiet,” she whispered.
The men with bared torsos and fierce faces had made their way into the room; I could hear father's voice pleading for mercy.
“Do you really think you can run away? You'll have to pay the price in blood," the voice threatened.
What was happening? What did they do?
“I swear to God, we didn’t do anything,“ Father begged. I couldn’t see him, but I could already tell he was in tears. “Please spare my family,” he continued.
"Shut it, you traitor; how dare you kill a member of the Golden Dawn Pack? The only thing you deserve is death. A cold one to send you off quickly,” a cold voice followed with a snort, his voice containing zero emotions.
I managed to see through a hole in the door, but the huge figure of the man blocked my view. There were two, but the other was shielded in the darkness, and all I could see was a scary silhouette holding a knife to my father's throat.
In a swift instant, he drew the knife through my father, and a loud scream escaped my mother’s lips. Without any remorse, he did the same to mom, like her life was worth nothing.
They both fell lifeless on the ground; a pool of blood leaking from his body.
I covered my lips when a scream threatened to escape. My father’s lifeless body stayed on the ground like it was rather useless. My heart was pounding in my chest.
Were they going to kill me too?
With a broken heart, I looked at my parent's lifeless bodies lying in a pool of blood, tears streaming down my face.
My mother's life as a direct descendant of a reigning alpha was not so smooth, and she made a lot of enemies before she met my father. He changed her life, curbed her excesses, and they lived happily for some years before they had me.
When I was sure they were all gone, I stepped out of the closet. My heart is still pounding in my chest. I still couldn’t see what was happening.
What did they do?
Why was this happening?
I screamed as tears gushed out of my eyes uncontrollably. I didn’t care that the men would hear. I just wanted answers. What was happening?
Just then a rustle followed from outside. Were they still after me?
I peeked through with my eyes, but they had long vanished.
"Where did they go?" I queried in my heart as I ran in the opposite direction. Regardless of what my mind kept beeping to me, I didn't pause in my steps.
Are they going to kill me as well?
I ran as fast as I could, but the pain from last night’s training with the other pack members was dreadful.
I ran away feeling so drained and helpless. After keeping a safe distance. I collapsed on the ground, the weight of reality finally dawning on me.
*******
It was days later that I got to hear the gist from lips, which were generous enough to discuss the details with me. I was overwhelmed to find out that my parents had been caught in the act of treason against the superior pack—the Golden Dawn Pack.
From my memories, this pack was the strongest in the hierarchy of the wolves for several centuries now, their position remaining undefeated for years.
The fact that my parents were involved in a treasonous act against such a behemoth existence proved why they were directly haunted to their deaths.
Living with the torturing thoughts of guilt and hate towards the incident with my parents, I managed to live past a week. But the new week was a sharp introduction to another moment of hell and daze for me.
I felt that the loss of my parents could bring me all the pain and trauma I needed in my life. But I faced crueler reality days after. I was still nursing in the pain of my parents' deaths when my fated mate, Francis, came to me three nights later.
"Hazel!" a voice barely above a whisper called in my ears that night.
Usually, I would be lain on my back and long asleep; however, it was a night of mourning my dead parents, so I was awake.
I walked to the door and carefully opened it with my sense of alertness at its peak. As I opened the door, my mate Francis was standing with half a life left.
His hair was distraught, and there were glaringly evident claw marks all over his body, and even his face had become swollen to a point that it was barely recognizable.
He was covered in blood from head to toe, and he could only call my name one last time before he collapsed into my wide arms.
Xavier POVThe weight of the decision pressed down on my shoulders like a physical burden. My wolf paced restlessly, torn between protecting our mate and claiming the power that was rightfully hers without her getting hurt. "There is another way," Irina's words cut through the silence of my office. "The power can be consumed by an Alpha wolf."I sat up, alerted at her words, my wolf already rising to the surface. "Explain what you mean by that" I demanded, not as a request but as a command. "The power trapped in this locket..." she held up the silver pendant, its surface sparkling in the faint light. "It can be transferred to an Alpha through another ritual. The Alpha who absorbs its powers would become..." she hesitated, proceeding with caution. "Unstoppable."The thought sent a chill down my spine. An Alpha with the force of four powers combined-- the idea was both enticing and startling."But, that would kill her, wouldn't it?" I asked, already knowing the response.Irina nodded
Xavier POVI watched as Irina's hands trembled when she picked up the locket again and clutched it in-between her hands. She looked as if she had been struck by lightning. I'd seen the witch handle cursed objects and ancient artifacts without flinching, but now her face had gone pale, and something I'd never seen before flickered in her eyes – fear. The terror written all over her face is proof that she felt it too--the locket is not ordinary--it emits power."This locket..." she whispered, her voice trembling as she opened her now reddened palm to reveal the locket. "The power trapped inside it is more than anything I've ever encountered in all my years."I bit back my impatience, my wolf stirring restlessly inside me. "I already know that, I didn't call you here to state the obvious. I need answers!" I demanded. Whatever is happening seems to be caused by this little silver locket and I need to know why.I crossed my arms and stared at Irina as she closed her eyes and chanted unde
Xavier POV.The space between us was filled with tension as I tried in vain to focus on working on the heaps of documents scattered across my desk. But I couldn't concentrate with Hazel curled up on my office couch. Her silver hair framed her small face. And when she absent-mindedly bit her lower lip, my wolf nearly lost it. I remembered how soft her lips felt against mine. I could hardly control the urge to pull her into my arms and kiss her again. I cursed under my breath as I flipped over documents on my desk and tried to get busy. My wolf was relentless, demanding I claim her, mark her, make her ours. But the rational part of my brain knew better – we had a crisis on our hands. There's a missing dead body, strange symbols, and now this mysterious locket. But try telling that to my wolf.I still couldn't believe that I actually suggested she come and stay in my room. I hadn't meant to but the word had slipped out before I could stop it. I was driven by the need to protect her a
Hazel's POV The prison reeked of blood, its metallic stench that filled the air made my stomach churn as we all stood in the prison cell and stared at the empty space before us. “What the hell is this?” Xavier growled, his eyes scanning the empty ground where the body of the dead intruder must have been minutes ago but now contains nothing but dark bloodstains.“I swear, Alpha, he was here, I left his body here, dead and cold.” Kael stammered, his voice already shaky. “Then where the hell is he?” Alpha Xavier growled, glaring at Kael whose face had gone pale with shock.“I don't understand, I left him here a while ago, dead and cold. I saw the markings on his body. A crescent moon with three stars branded on his chest. It was an unusual symbol which I thought you would want to see" Kael said, swinging the torch around the cell, looking around again but the only thing left on the floor was blood stains. I stood terrified, my wolf stirred uneasily within me. Something was very wro
Hazel's POV I had no choice but to tell him everything that happened on my 18th birthday. I began by telling him how my Mom gave me the locket as my 18th birthday gift and how my father warned me never to take it off and even insisted that I wear it when I received my wolf for the first time. I recounted how I ended up as an omega and how I've suffered humiliation and bullying since then. It was my worst birthday ever and I hate remembering what happened and how drastically my life had changed. He listened to me with a rapt attention, his dark eyes watching my every movement.“That's all there is to it” I concluded. “Are you sure that's all?” he asked, raising his brows. “I've already told you all I know” I answered, honestly not knowing how else to explain. “It's a gift from my mother when I turned eighteen” I repeated, my eyes clouded with the memory of what happened that day. “Did she tell you anything about it?”I shook my head. It was simply a birthday gift to me. “No,
Hazel's POV I stood at the door entrance trying to summon the courage to knock on the door. My heart was beating fast and sweat broke in my face. Even though he had not summoned me, I still have to find answers to the questions raging in my mind. I need to know if the intruder broke in because of my locket, is it also related to the threat letter I received last night? I took a deep breath and clenched my fist to knock on the oak wooden door but before I could knock, his voice stopped me short.“Come in Hazel, I can hear you hesitating” his voice broke through from inside the office. Of course, he could sense me with his heightened Alpha senses. I pushed open the door silently and slowly entered the dimly lit office. He stood facing the window with his back towards me, his hands in his pants pocket and he looked as if he's staring into the crescent moon ahead. I looked around the big office, taking in its opulence. The huge wooden bookshelves stood at the left against the wall. My
