The last thing Cassian said as he sat across from me sent a chill through the room.

Turn my back on them? Whatever I was about to learn, it couldn't possibly be worse than the suffocating uncertainty I'd been living with.

"Before anything else," Cassian began, leaning forward with his elbows resting on his knees, those piercing blue eyes fixed on mine, "I need to explain Ivy's connection to us."

He glanced toward her.

"Ivy is the daughter of Carter Storm, our pack's Gamma. Kai, Ivy, and I..." A faint smile crossed his face. "We've grown up together. We're basically family."

My eyes drifted to Ivy before I could stop them. Something inside me cracked. It wasn't anger. It was the quiet ache of realizing the one friend I'd truly trusted had known the truth all along.

She'd been by my side since the beginning of the school year. She'd fought beside me. And while Cassian and I had glared at each other like enemies in that cafe…

She'd known exactly who both of us really were. As if she could read the hurt in my expression, Ivy immediately leaned toward me and gently took my hands in hers. Guilt filled her amber eyes.

"Bloom... I'm so, so sorry." Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"I never wanted to lie to you or keep things from you. But... you have to understand. Before we knew who you really were—or what your intentions were—we couldn't just reveal our entire world to you."

She tightened her grip slightly.

"Once I trusted you, I wanted to tell you everything. I swear I did." She swallowed hard.

"But a wolf can't go against their Alpha's orders. We can't reveal pack secrets without permission."

A sad smile touched her lips. "The bond won't let us."

For a brief moment, I wanted to pull my hands away. I wanted to be angry. But I couldn't.

Instead, I took a slow breath. Everything was finally starting to make sense. More than anything...

I understood exactly how trapped she'd been. "I'm not mad at you, Ivy."

I made sure my voice stayed calm. She let out a relieved breath almost immediately. "I understand."

A small smile tugged at my lips. "My father lived by strict rules too." I lowered my gaze to our joined hands.

"He gave me orders I couldn't disobey. Because of those orders... I couldn't even join the battle that took my parents' lives. I had to hide. I had to wait."

My throat tightened. "I know what it means to keep a promise to someone you follow... whether they're your father, your leader, or your Alpha."

I looked back into her eyes. "So I understand why you couldn't tell me without your Alpha's permission."

Silence settled over the room. Kai stared at me in surprise. When I looked at Cassian... Something in his expression had changed.

For the first time, I saw genuine respect in those deep blue eyes. He seemed to understand, almost instinctively, the military discipline my father had raised me with... and the unwavering loyalty that had become part of who I was.

Even among wolves, where hierarchy meant everything...

It felt as though my words had struck a chord. Cassian slowly leaned back in his chair. The guarded, questioning look that had always lingered in his eyes was gone. In its place...

Was admiration.

"Thank you for understanding, Bloom."

His voice was softer than I'd ever heard it. Almost gentle. He stood, smoothing the front of his jacket. "It's been a long day."

His gaze briefly drifted to my shoulder. "The pain medication I gave you is going to start making you sleepy soon."

He nodded toward Kai. "We should get going."

"You need to rest."

Kai stretched as he stood, flashing me an easy grin.

"Tomorrow's the big day," he said. "Better save your energy, feisty girl."

He headed for the door with Cassian.

Just before stepping outside, Cassian stopped in the doorway and looked back at me one last time.

That familiar scent of blueberries and juniper brushed against me before the night carried it away.

"Ivy's staying with you tonight."

His tone turned serious again.

"Lock the door."

Then he disappeared into the darkness. After locking the door behind them, I turned back toward the living room. The moment the heavy tension finally lifted from my shoulders...

Curiosity rushed in to take its place. I sat cross-legged on the couch across from Ivy. "All right."

I met her eyes. "I'm going to that pack house tomorrow... but I have no idea what I'm walking into." I tilted my head. "Tell me about your pack."

I hesitated for a second before smiling.

"...What's it really like?"

A warm, proud smile spread across Ivy's face as she leaned back comfortably.

"It's probably a lot warmer than you're imagining, Bloom."

She spoke with unmistakable affection.

"Our pack house sits in the middle of a huge forest, surrounded by dozens of smaller cabins."

Her eyes lit up. "Living together like that... always being surrounded by people who care about you..." She smiled softly. "It's an incredible feeling."

She paused only long enough to draw another excited breath.

"We're not exactly overflowing with luxury or cutting-edge technology, but we have everything we need."

She started counting on her fingers. "We have a small medical clinic that's always fully equipped. Whenever someone gets hurt or there's an emergency, that's the first place everyone runs."

Her smile widened. "And my favorite place?" She laughed. "Our daycare."

I couldn't help smiling with her.

"When the adults are out patrolling the forest borders or taking care of pack business, all the little pups stay there together. They play, they learn..."

She shook her head fondly.

"The whole place is filled with children's laughter."

As she spoke, something unfamiliar stirred inside me. Envy. Longing. I'd spent my entire life hiding. Always watching my back. Always preparing for the next danger. A childhood where children could simply...

Being a child...

Felt like something from a fairy tale.

"What about the teenagers?" I asked, completely absorbed in her stories.

"What do they do?"

"The first shift is a huge milestone," Ivy replied, her eyes sparkling.

"Once they're old enough and they experience their first transformation, every young wolf goes through mandatory training."

She smiled knowingly.

"They learn how to control both their bodies... and the wild instincts inside them."

She nodded toward the door Cassian and Kai had just walked through.

"Cassian, Kai, and I all went through it too."

"It's tough."

"But it's what truly makes you part of the pack."

As Ivy continued talking... The picture forming in my mind felt less like a pack...

And more like a family. For the first time in my life...

I wondered if, when I stepped through those doors tomorrow...

I might finally learn what it felt like to belong.

I froze. Completely. His lips weren't just kissing me. They were claiming me. Like he was drawing a line no one else was allowed to cross. Like he had something to prove. And all I could do... was kiss him back. His hand slid up to the back of my neck, tilting my head exactly where he wanted it. This wasn't a fake kiss. It was hard, deep, and utterly possessive. The scorching heat of his mouth, the firm sweep of his tongue, the raw hunger radiating from his wolf sent shivers racing through every inch of my body. My knees threatened to give out, and Cassian immediately tightened his grip around my waist, pulling me flush against him to keep me standing. Right in front of Dominic. Without breaking eye contact with him for a second. He was declaring, for everyone to see, that I belonged to him. My breath caught, and he took full advantage of it, deepening the kiss until I couldn't tell where he ended and I began. A quiet sound escaped my lips and disappeared into his mouth, an

The suffocating silence inside the car finally came to an end as we pulled into the school parking lot. When Cassian killed the engine, I felt those sharp blue eyes land on me one last time through the rearview mirror. The tension from the kitchen still lingered between us. His thumb brushing my collarbone. The dangerous conversation we'd had standing inches apart. And one particular sentence that refused to leave my mind. "If the situation calls for it... kissing." I opened my door and stepped out. The cool morning air hit my face, and I took a deep breath. The relief lasted all of three seconds. Cassian rounded the front of the car. Before I could even process what he was doing, his long, warm fingers wrapped firmly around my waist. He pulled me against him with such effortless possession that my back collided with his chest. I turned toward him in complete surprise. He answered with that infuriating Alpha smirk. The one that always said he was in control. His hand remained

When I opened my eyes, the first rays of morning light filtering through the exposed wooden beams overhead stung my eyes. The old house hidden deep within the forest still held onto the suffocating silence of the night.Slowly, I turned toward the other side of the bed. Cassian was still asleep.I remembered the ache that had settled inside me when I'd built that invisible—but impossible to cross—wall between us before turning my back on him last night. But now...The fierce, untouchable Alpha heir lay completely defenseless on the opposite side of the bed. His dark hair was scattered across the pillow. Even the permanent crease between his brows had finally relaxed.I took a slow breath as I carefully sat up. Without bothering to change out of my thin camisole and shorts, I quietly slipped out of bed. We weren't at the pack house anymore. There was no reason to dress differently. As I passed the mirror, my reflection caught my eye. How was I supposed to protect my own heart during th

The heavy thud of the front door echoed through the mold-scented walls of the old house before fading into silence. As the lock clicked into place, it felt like we'd severed our last connection to the outside world right there on the threshold. The performance. The school. Ending things with Fiona in front of everyone. The spectacle we'd put on for the entire pack. The weight of it all settled onto my shoulders at once. But I didn't have the luxury of thinking about any of that. Standing in front of me, her back pressed against the door beneath the dim light of the hallway, was a little fox whose chest was rising and falling just a little too quickly. This wasn't the same woman who had wrapped her arms around me in front of the pack only minutes ago. The same woman who had smiled so sweetly and said, "I was wondering how much longer you planned to make me wait."That mask disappeared the second we stepped inside. The green fire blazing in her eyes melted the cold air filling the hallw

The thread inside my head had been hammering against my temples like a poisoned needle since last night. Bloom standing against the cold glass of her window, looking straight into my eyes as she accused me of being nothing more than an ordinary man ruled by primitive wolf instincts, had sent Axel into a violent rage behind my ribs.I hadn't been able to tell her the truth. I hadn't been able to explain that the damned arrangement with Fiona had only ever been a cover. All I'd told Bloom was that Fiona had been a shield. But today, everything was going to change. Alpha Ronan's dangerous plan to use Bloom as bait had Axel growling with dark satisfaction deep inside me. Fake or not, the little fox would finally be mine.Under the same roof. Far away from the pack. We all left the pack house together that morning and drove to school, but the atmosphere inside the car felt heavier than last night's battle.Bloom stared out the window, trying to understand the newly awakened pack bonds insi

The ancient cellar seemed to freeze the moment those words left Alpha Ronan's mouth. The blood of the First Line. For centuries, it had been nothing more than a legend. A faded story carved into the runes that lined forgotten walls. And now...It was lying right in front of me. On the parchment beneath my hands. In my veins. The shock on everyone's faces slowly transformed into something much darker. Calculation."Everything you've seen and heard in this room," Ronan thundered, his voice cracking through the underground chamber like a whip, "never leaves it."His gaze swept over each of us. "Not one word.""No one learns the truth about Bloom's blood."No one argued. No one even looked capable of speaking. Kai and Ivy were still staring at the parchment—at my family tree—as though their minds hadn't caught up with what they were seeing.Even after we returned upstairs to Alpha Ronan's large study, the suffocating silence followed us. I drifted toward one corner of the room. Kai leaned
