UPPER HAND

Alpha Daniel’s request sat heavy in my chest. Every instinct in me wanted to refuse him outright, to end the conversation the moment he mentioned Mia. But we weren’t in a position to be reckless,not with the council tightening its grip around my throat.

We needed allies. And right now, Shadow Pack was the strongest card on the table.

I had rested, but the rest hadn’t brought clarity. My thoughts kept circling the same truth: Maya was trying something different, and I could only hope it would work.

When I went downstairs looking for her, I found Michael instead.

“She stepped out with me earlier,” he said. “We went to see Alpha Daniel.”
