The first thing I saw when my eyes finally fluttered open was light ,soft, golden light pouring through the window. My body ached, my head felt heavy, but the moment I turned to the side and saw him, all the pain faded for a second.

Zack was there, sitting by my side, his fingers laced through mine. His eyes were red like he hadn’t slept in days, and when he saw me move, his whole face lit up.

“Fiona?” His voice cracked slightly. “You’re awake.”

A weak smile tugged at my lips. “I… think so,” I whispered hoarsely. “Did I… sleep through a century or something?”

He chuckled softly, brushing a stray strand of hair from my face. “Feels like it. You scared me half to death, you know that?”

I tried to sit up, but he gently pressed me back. “Easy,” he said. “The doctor said you need rest.”

That’s when I noticed Lily and Stella standing at the other side of the bed, their eyes watery but smiling. “Welcome back, sleepyhead,” Lily teased, though her voice shook a little.
