Sleep didn’t come easy these days. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Maya’s face — her laugh, her warmth, the look she gave me when she trusted me completely.

Now that look haunted me.

I sat up in bed, running a hand through my hair. I have to accept this… the child is innocent. That’s what I kept telling myself.

But deep down, the fear ate at me — what if Maya leaves me when she finds out? I wouldn’t blame her. I was the one who failed.

That evening, my parents called me into their study. My father sat behind his desk, expression calm but heavy. My mother stood by the window, her arms crossed.

“Liam,” my father began, “we’ve thought about everything… and we’ve decided to accept the child.”

I swallowed hard. “You mean—”

“Yes,” my mother interrupted gently, “Lia will stay here. The baby is part of this pack, and it’s our duty to protect it.”

I sighed, leaning back in the chair. “I understand, but… what about Maya? She’s coming back soon. How do I explain all this to her?”
