The morning of the big game came faster than I expected. We loaded onto the team bus while the sky was still a dark gray, the air sharp with winter. My friends insisted on coming along Fiona, Stella, and even Zack sat near the back, their chatter making the ride less nerve-wracking.

But then I saw her.

Lia.

She slid onto the bus beside Liam like she owned the world, flashing a smug smile in our direction.

Stella muttered under her breath. “Great. Party crasher.”

“Let’s just ignore her,” Fiona whispered, squeezing my arm. “Today is your day, not hers.”

I forced a smile. “Yeah. She’s not ruining this.”

Still, the sight of Lia next to Liam sent a sour twist through me that I couldn’t explain. I busied myself tightening the straps on my gear.

The ride felt endless. Finally, as the bus slowed, I leaned across the aisle toward Liam.

“So… who are we playing against? You never said.”

He gave a faint grin. “Patience. You’ll see when we get there.”

“That’s not an answer,” I said, narrowing my e

Liam’s hands were warm on my shoulders, steadying me. His gaze searched for mine as if I held answers even I didn’t understand.“Your wolf?” he asked in a low, careful voice. “Maya… you actually have a wolf?”I nodded slowly. “She’s speaking to me right now.”A growl vibrated in my head, strong but not hostile. Yes, Maya. I am Nyx. I’ve been locked away for years. Hidden from you. Not by your mother… but by the witch.I blinked hard. “The witch?”Fiona leaned in. “What witch?”Nyx’s voice sharpened, her words dripping with venom. The night you were born, your mother gave you life under the Silver Moon. You were destined to awaken as the Ancient Wolf — a healer with the strength of an alpha. The witch knew this. She came after your birth, cursing you before your powers could rise. She locked me away inside you so you would remain powerless, human. My chest tightened as flashes filled my mind , a woman’s scream, chains glowing with silver, and a dark figure hovering above a crib.“My mo

Fiona’s eyes were sharp as she closed the book. “Maya, we should tell Lily and Stella about this,” she said firmly.I hesitated, then nodded. “Okay… maybe they’ll understand it better than I do.”When Lily and Stella arrived, Fiona explained everything we’d found. They exchanged a look ,quick, silent, but meaningful.“What was that?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. “You two just shared a whole conversation with your eyes. What are you not telling me?”Stella bit her lip. “It’s… complicated.”Before I could press further, a loud shrill rang through the halls. Brrring! Brrring!“The fire alarm?” I frowned, looking around at the other confused students.Lily’s expression changed immediately. “That’s not a fire alarm,” she muttered. “That’s an evacuation signal.”“What? Why? There’s no smoke”Fiona grabbed my hand. “Maya, listen. You stay in the library. Don’t move until we come back.”“Wait, why?” My heart started to hammer. “What’s going on?”Zack’s voice echoed from the doorway. “Rouges. T

When I woke, the dorm was silent. Lily, Stella, and Fiona had already left for the night to visit their families.“They could’ve at least woken me,” I muttered, hugging my arms around myself. The empty room felt too big, too quiet.I decided to grab a glass of water to shake off the uneasy feeling. As I stepped into the hallway, a flicker of movement caught my eye near the window. My breath hitched.Standing just beyond the courtyard was the same woman I’d seen before, the old witch with the staff.“No way,” I whispered. Heart pounding, I pushed through the door. “Hey,wait!”The woman didn’t turn, but somehow I heard her voice, soft and distant, echoing in my head: Come, child… the moon is waiting.A strange pull urged me forward. “Who are you?” I called, my footsteps quickening. “Why are you following me?”She glided ahead silently, leading me through the trees until we reached the lake bathed in full-moon light. The air shimmered, heavy and electric.I stopped at the water’s edge. “W

The night of the full moon had finally come. Our whole pack gathered for this, one night when every wolf shifted together and our bonds grew stronger.Tonight my father planned to name me as his heir, the next Alpha.I should have felt proud, but my stomach twisted.I kept replaying last night in my head. What happened with Lia… it didn’t even feel like me.My wolf, Axel, kept whispering that some strange energy had clouded us, but I still felt guilty.Dad clapped me on the shoulder.“Ready, son? Tonight we show them the future Alpha.”I forced a small smile. “Yeah… ready as I can be.”His eyes narrowed. “Something on your mind?”“Nothing I can’t handle,” I said, though it sounded weak even to me.A soft voice interrupted. “Liam.”Lia stepped closer, wearing a proud smile. “Big night for you.”I stiffened. “Lia.”She reached for my arm. “You’ll stand beside me when your father speaks, right? Everyone already sees us as the future Alpha and Luna.”I pulled my arm back a little. “That’s

I stumbled out of the dorm, heart hammering, every word I’d overheard from Maya slicing through me. Her own father… all that pain… while I’ve been standing here pretending I can ignore the bond.“Damn it!”I slammed my fist into the brick wall. Pain shot up my arm, but it was nothing compared to the burn in my chest.Another punch. Crack. My knuckles bled.Liam!”Zack’s voice cut through the night. He jogged toward me, eyes wide. “What the hell, man? You never lose it like this. Talk to me.”I pressed my forehead against the wall, breathing hard. “I… I can’t” My voice cracked. “I can’t believe what she’s been through.”Zack stepped closer, concern etched on his face. “Is this about Maya?”I turned, tears stinging my eyes. “She’s my mate, Zack.” The words tore out of me like a confession I’d held for years. “She’s my mate, and I’ve been a coward.”Zack blinked, then let out a low whistle. “Whoa. You’re serious.”“I heard everything.” My fists trembled. “All those years she suffered… wh

I blinked awake to the soft hum of machines. The sharp ache I’d felt before was mostly gone. That can’t be right, I thought, pushing the blanket down. My arm, where the claw had raked me, looked like a two-day-old scratch, not a fresh wound.A nurse stepped in with a warm smile. “Good morning, Maya. How are you feeling?”“Sore,” I admitted, flexing my fingers, “but… it doesn’t hurt as much as it should.”She gave a little shrug. “You’re healing faster than expected. That’s good news. Your friends are still outside waiting for you.”She placed a folded stack of clean clothes on the side table. “You’re cleared to leave whenever you’re ready.”“Thanks,” I said, still staring at the half-healed marks on my skin. When the door closed, I changed quickly, wincing only a little as I slipped the shirt over my head. I was fastening the last button when the door swung open again.“Maya!” Fiona’s voice cracked in shock.I spun around. Fiona and Stella froze in the doorway. Fiona’s hand flew to her
